New 'Glee' commercial featuring 'Like a Prayer': Lea Michele = smokin'

Filed under: Glee, Television and tagged: , , , ,

This new commercial for Glee‘s April 13 return, featuring Lea Michele’s Rachel belting out a Broadway-flavored version of “Like a Prayer,” presumably from the upcoming all-Madonna episode, gives a little taste of everything I love about the girl. Michele’s huge voice, born-to-be-on-stage persona, adorable comedic half-smile, and smokin’ hot, half-size-too-small school girl sweater dress all serve as reminders that she alone is reason enough to for me to keep watching Glee. (And yes, the sprinkling of awesome Sue Sylvesterisms certainly adds to the allure.)

My favorite Rachel moment ever — and frankly, also the moment I fell in love with Glee — was when she sang “Take a Bow” to Finn as he got all kissy-face cute with Quinn in the hallway, seemingly turning his back on what Rachel felt was their budding romance. Michele brought a pained sense of high school vulnerability to the song that drummed up so many memories of school hallway heartache, and at least in my opinion, easily trumped Rihanna’s cockier original. I’m pretty stoked to see what sexy-innocent greatness — and yes, great talent IS sexy — Michele delivers next.

What about you, PopWatchers? Fave Rachel/Lea Michele moment ever? Who’s pumped for April 13?

Couldn’t agree more about “Take a Bow”. On my iPod. Forget Idol. Let’s have supersized versions of Glee this spring!

  • Brigid

“How don’t you two have a show on Bravo?” Man, Sue’s one liners kind of make up for a lot of the other plot weaknesses.

    • Clara

i totally agree! i’m still laughing over her telling mr schu “you’re haircut makes you look like a lesbian.”

lea michele MUST win an emmy–her voice, her acting is outstanding. she makes rachel likable, strong, vulnerable and awesome!

  • Liam

    I love Glee

Favorite Rachel moment was in the episode “Vitamin D”. After the girls perform their mash-up and Finn confronts her about the girls taking the same stuff the boys did, Rachel apologizes to Finn for calling him deplorable, and the look on her face when Finn says “It’s ok, I didn’t even know what that means” was just priceless!

Interesting how well Converse has fared over the years, with multiple generations thinking Chucks look cooler on them than the generation before. Just sayin.

    • Remy

It’s interesting you say that – I wore a pair of Converse to work the other day, and my older coworker asked if they were REAL Converse or imitation. I was insulted – I’ve had that pair for years. Psht.

      • Sluggo

I wore them in the 70′s (gasp!) because I couldn’t afford Keds, and I thought I was a loser.

love love love Glee!! This new promo ROCKS!

I am SO excited for Glee to be back! My personal favorite Rachel moment is her rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” at sectionals. It’s so quintessential Rachel, and she sang the hell out of that song!

    • LauraT

That’s my choice, too. I got shivers.

      • graeme

Yeah, I don’t see how anyone can choose any other moment as their favourite Rachel moment other than “Don’t Rain On My Parade”. I’ve listened to it a million times, and I love the way it was shot as well. The show had been building towards a big Rachel solo for the whole season, and Michele exceeded my expectations. Phenomenal.

yeah, goosebumps and a little teary-eyed.

My da, who was a Barbra fan and saw her on broadway when he was in high school, was visiting when this episode was on. He was working in the next room, came over to watch her sing this song, and was awestruck. He just said, “wow.” The next night, he watched her sing with Cheno, and he was even more amazed and made my ma watch it, too.

      Another vote for DROMP.

Ya know, it’s almost not fair to put a Glee commercial in the middle of an Idol broadcast the season. Lea Michele put all of those kids to SHAME. A two snipnet clip of her woke me up from the misery I was in last night and reminded me that there actually are young people on Fox who can sing, they just aren’t in their singing competition!

    • Chris7468

      EXACTLY my thoughts

  • tickles

And don’t forget that Mercedes (Amber Riley) didn’t even make it in front of the judges to audition for american Idol. Lea Michelle is fantastic.

  • John

Looking forward to the return of GLEE

  • Katie

A sing-off in the parking lot! Hee.

    • Irene

Don’t you just love Finn’s face when he hears that? And Rachel’s uber dramatic gasp?

    • Courtney

Best part of the promo! But in a sing-off with Jonathan Groff, Finn doesn’t stand a chance.

      • Maggie

hahahaha so true. god bless cory monteith, but jonathan groff could sing the phone book and i would listen

  • Reno

OMG I can’t wait for Glee to come back! Only three more weeks! I wonder when they’re gonna release the first tracks?

  • Me

My fav was Defying Gravity and then a not Lea moment, Bust the Windows Out Your Car (I use that line all the time at home now) :)

  • Maddi

Honestly? I love Lea, but this doesn’t sound all that good. *patiently waits for more, better songs*

  • Aimzee

I am SO excited for Glee to be back! My personal favorite Rachel moment is her rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” at sectionals. It’s so quintessential Rachel, and she sang the hell out of that song! Aprilcot, I totally agree! Outstanding performance!

    • Marianne

Thats my fave Rachel solo song too. :) Although Lea sounds good in just about anything.
