'The Good Wife' kiss: A producer reveals what the interrupted 'Are we...' would have been

SPOILER! I am not proud of how many times I’ve rewound that office scene last night between Will and Alicia. Nor can I believe that I just emailed one of the show’s publicists asking her to find out from one of the exec producers what Will was going to say when Alicia interrupted his “Are we…” line to return his kiss. After watching it for the 10th time, I started wondering if he had a full sentence in mind, or if he just intended to say “Are we [insert nod toward the couch].”

According to Robert King, one of the show’s cocreators, they thought the interrupted line would have been “Are we making a mistake?”

And as for the nod…well, we’ll leave that to your imaginations,” the rep adds. “Try to stay out of the gutter tho. lol.”

Okay, now I’m slightly mortified, but the people needed to know. The “people” being me and the two friends who texted me immediately following the scene. (Did you need to phone someone, too?)

Even though I would have preferred understandably aroused Alicia not have ended up on top of Peter, Julianna Margulies has never looked sexier than she did standing in the doorway to his bedroom. Thinking about it, I do sort of like that Alicia used her cheating husband for sex. Knowing that Will might’ve thought that starting something was a mistake too (or was he just voicing what he thought she was thinking?) makes me believe that they can actually go back to the way things were — where the tension is there, but it doesn’t have to be addressed in every episode. They buried whatever they had at Georgetown (!) and have been able to work side-by-side. They can do it again. For now… What date is that dinner?

I’ve been a fan of Josh Charles through Dead Poets Society, Sports Night… LOVE him.

      • Leslie

You can’t forget Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Josh Charles was so cute in that movie too :)

      • Madd

I have had a crush on Josh Charles since Dead Poets Society as well (Knox Overstreet!) and may have actually yelled “SO WHAT!!!” at the tv when Alicia said “This is a mistake”.

I find comfort in the fact that I wasn’t the only person who watched that scene 10 times! :)

    • Sparky

I pretty sure I’ve watched it about 100 times by now… Love this show.

      • Sparky

        Okay just made it 101…

OH.MY.GAWD! So many amazing moments. Their kiss practically left me breathless. As soon as the episode was over, I rewatched all of my favorite scenes. I believe they’ll go back to the way things were…for now. Let’s not rush things.
I’m keeping this episode on my DVR until I get my hands of this DVD set!

Yesssss I wasnt the only one watching this scene over and over….talk about unrequited love!! Thanks for posting the clip on the site. Seriously this show just keeps getting better and better. It really has me hooked!!!! can’t wait for the next episode!!!

I was shouting so loud about that kiss everyone in my hall came to see what was wrong. Oh college and its paper-thin walls…
They should invent a new emmy category called “smoldering and attractive,” and give it to Josh Charles. Seriously, he is way too attractive.

  • Kim

It’s ridiculous how much sexual tension those two have. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one obsessing over that scene! I can’t wait to see what happens at their dinner. I’m looking forward to seeing that love triangle get slowly more and more complicated. Am I the only one who wants to see a flashback to those two at Georgetown?

    • alia

Flashback! Yes, please! And I wish next week were a new episode so we could see that dinner.

      • Connie

that dinner has been alluded to so much.. they better show us what happens. =)

  • Diane

Sorry, Alicia already has one guy in her life with no morals. Will would be just as scum sucking as Peter, and perhaps not as hot, if he gives in to his whatever for Alicia. And in related news … Big Forever! :)

  • angel

That was one of the most sensual, sexually charged scenes I’ve seen on TV in a very long time. Some times less is more and that is surely the case here. My jaw dropped to the floor and I looked around to make sure no one else was watching. It felt wrong to be watching for all the right reasons. If I was her husband I’d be wondering where the hell that look and those actions came from. It was fabulous!

  • KB

When she said “This is not a good idea.” in the elevator, I may have yelled “Do it anyway!” at my tv.

  • Connie

I have watched that scene 10 times. Totally hot! They have such awesome chemistry and I would love to know what happened at Georgetown.

    • Pennyforyourthoughts

Were they a couple at Georgetown of just friends?

      • Connie

I get the impression it was more than friends, but not sure the circumstances around it. Like Will said, its always bad timing. And that could mean lots of things.

  • Madd

Thank you for posting the clip so I can watch it another 10 times. Despite my sentimental feelings for Chris Noth, I find myself extremely angry when he’s in a scene because Josh Charles isn’t.

  • margarita

Ah young love, you can just image those two kids in college together. Until something, or someone broke them up. I just knew they had a past, I felt it. The two actors, are great together. Looking forward, to more scenes like this. Just love this show.

‘This clip is not available in your geographic area’. Too cruel! I want my Josh Charles fix now, not in a couple of months when it airs in the UK.

    • Nancy

Try youtube–it might be there (blocked here in Canada too, but saw the ep–hope you get your hands on it!!)

    • Alejandra

Yeah! I get that message too, here in Mexico. The episode was shown last week and I am obsessed with that scene and the “We always had bad timing”.

  • kate kennedy

Great scene, great show. Can’t wait to see what happens next. AND YES, the ‘not available in your geographic region’ is cruel–it happens in Canada too.

  • Amy

Love you Mandi! You’ve brought the Josh Charles fans out in droves. Who knew there were so many of us?! SO many great scenes last night. Ok, the kiss was at the top, but the scene in her office? Bravo!
