When Lost fans speak of “set-up” episodes, they’re usually trying to be kind about an hour wherein nothing really happened besides moving characters emotionally and Read the full post.

Sawyer’s Cop Reveal = Freaking awesome!
Miles = Freaking awesome!
Sawyer + Charlotte = Something’s just not right.
Hey, all the shout-outs to Recon’s references to episodes past failed to note the one that made me chuckle most — Sawyer apprehending Kate by slamming her up against bars! Heh heh, remember the other time he did that? (How couldja not — they primed it with his wistful moment in the polar bear cage!)
i caught that too! and we were given a reminder and everything people!
How do we even know that Fake Locke was telling Kate the truth? Couldn’t he have been manipulating her with what he thought she’d want to hear like he tried to do with Ben last week? Kate doesn’t know that he is really Smokey… And didn’t he just say his mom was “crazy”? Where did the “abusive” come in?
EXACTLY!!! He is the King of the Con Men. Don’t believe him!
Sawyer hijacking a sub = just plain stupid. Even you hardcore Lost nerds have to admit that.
The hardcore nerds can’t admit that the writing is severely lacking and often pointless (“Hey, let’s drop in the name of a famous philosopher for no reason!”). The real “Man Behind the Curtain” is… the producers, who have tricked the nerds into actually believing this show is intellectual and substantial.
UGH. It just shows that Sawyer was honest in his desire to get off the island. But that he hasn’t bought Locke’s lies hook, line and sinker.
I love when idiots like yourself come on to post the nonsense that you do.
Bored, you and I are preaching to deaf ears. These people can’t admit how crappy this show has become. It’s tragic.
What’s tragic is you wasting your precious (or not) time. If it pains you so much, why don’t you move along. Hmm?
Me thinks you doth protest too much.
Otherwise why bother coming on here?
Actually, they hijacked the Dharma sub back in 1977 when they were evacuating the Island so Sawyer probably figures he can do the same with Widmore’s.
Yep. I don’t think they actually plane on driving the sub, just hi-jacking it. And they did it before.
I joked last year on facebook that LOST was just a sci-fi version of Little House on the Prairie….
Hey! I thought the scene where Claire climbed all over Kate to kill her while Sayid just stood there and watched was chilling. Kate should feel more isolated, not less. I just want to see how Jack, Hurley, Sun and the others do when they confront them.
Don’t worry, Kate fans, she will be making a break to get back with Jack before much longer. She is totally out of place there and is looking for her chance to jet back w/ the “good guys”.
Hope you’re right spk2629! I really do. I really want to see her back w/ Jack, Sun, and Hurley. I also find it hard to believe she would be THAT eager to get off the island w/ Sawyer, leaving Jack and everyone behind. I don’t think, even if she THOUGHT she wanted to, she could just leave Jack on the island. No WAY.
Jenna – Sawyer told Jin that he wouldn’t leave without Sun. I don’t for a second believe Sawyer is going to just try and leave with Kate.
Ugh Kate with Jack is just nauseating. She follows him like a puppy. She is stronger and stands on her own two feet when she is not with him, therefore she is better that way.
Gosh I missed Sawyer!!! I love the Sawyer/Miles frienship/partnership. The best bromance of Lost, lol. Charlotte/Sawyer was… weird, lol. In a good way, I guess. I would LOVE it if Sawyer decided not to kill Cooper in the flashsideways (sort of like how Ben got to ‘save’ Alex in his).
Rolled my eyes at Sawyer holding Kate’s dress (its *really* been there for t3 years?) – the moment seemed kind of forced in the wake of Juliet dying only 2 days ago. But Darlton do love messing with all the shippers – gotta keep ‘em guessing I suppose.
Where did the alcohol come from that Sawyer was drinking? If I you buy a bottle of Jack or whatever he was drinking still being there then I can buy a dress still being there.
And where will Sawyer find Anthony Cooper? At Locke’s wedding
Oh and Locke had another “thinking” type moment before he gave his speel to Kate….. remember the smoke monster could give people glimpses of their past… you wonder if he runs through a person’s past to see what story would manipulate them/reach them best. I’m beginning to wonder if he isn’t lying about all of it. I bet he didn’t have a crazy mother.
I totally agree.
Exactly! Can you really trust and believe him? FakeLocke might be the king of conning. Someone earlier commented that Tawaret was F-Locke’s Mom. What do you think of that?
That was me I don’t necessarily think Tawaret was Fake Locke’s mom but read this line from Wikipedia about Tawaret:
As a protector, she often was shown with one arm resting on the sa symbol, which symbolized protection, and on occasion she carried an ankh, the symbol of life, or a knife, which would be used to threaten evil spirits. As the hippopotamus was associated with the Nile, these more positive ideas of Taweret allowed her to be seen as a goddess of the annual flooding of the Nile and the bountiful harvest that it brought. Ultimately, although only a household deity, since she was still considered the consort of Apep, Taweret was seen as one who protected against evil by restraining it.
Seems like the producers wanted you to think of Tawaret when Locke mentioned mothers. Which made you think of the fertility issues which made me go to wikipedia which gave me that.
Yes Liz, I know what you’re saying. Trust me-I know about the history of Taweret. Sometimes my gut tells me that the origin/essence of Jacob is female-as silly as that sounds!
Oddly, I find the opposite to be true of Fake Locke’s trustworthiness. I’m consistently surprised with how honest and forthcoming he is with his information, like revealing himself as the Smoke Monster to Sawyer. I kinda remember him at one point telling someone he wouldn’t lie (although I could be wrong about that), and so far, it seems to be true.
what is that was happening last week when we saw kate staring up at the smoke with that weird look on her face? she was seeing her past and he was reading it.
what *if that was happening
Just love me some Sawyer!! Sexy, great actor!! Bad to the bone…yet..not!
I enjoyed the episode but it wasn’t as deep as the last couple of weeks and that’s OK. Sawyer episodes are always good and I liked trying to keep ahead of the con game going on between Sawyer and Flocke…
What I really enjoyed though was the side story…just good fun.
EW, please stop deleting my comments!
-Best episode of the season, with last week’s as second best.
-I think Jacob is Smokey’s dad.
-Something about next week’s preview made me suddenly pull some pieces together and think that Richard Alpert on the Island is analogous to Adam in the Garden of Eden.
-Two rabbit references tonight (James the detective’s bedroom books and Kate’s Island dinner) reminded me of Alice in Wonderland for the second time this season. Both Jack and James have smashed looking glasses this season.
Okay read all the comments through Jen’s at 11:33. I am not surprised at the (relatively?) high number of “it was boring/it sucked” comments. I personally don’t think it sucked. It was okay, overall. But I totally understand the sentiment. The sideways world to me is just such a season misfire, so far. If we have to wait until the series finale to learn the big reveal, will it have been worth it?
And Jeff, do I seriously have to go watch “The Departed” to understand some obscure references? I understand — to you at least — that every scene has some hidden meaning, but I’d really prefer not to have to Wiki every last line!
I’m growing increasingly disappointed with each passing episode. The characters I liked are mostly changed or gone for hours on end, or — living an alternate reality. Like another poster said, I’ll watch ’til the end but I really hope it gets better. Time is running out.
I’m actually becoming quite attached to the flashsideways.
But I do agree that the long periods we go without seeing certain characters is bothering me. Other than that, I’m totally on board with this season…. just it’ll depend on how these realities come together….
Yep, you nailed it. Side story is flushable unless it somehow re-merges w/ our timeline for the characters to give them the lives they have in the sideways world. You would think that w/ so few `episodes left they could have come up with a better way to while away the series, with you know, ANSWERS IN A TIMELY FASHION, not just crammed in @ the end.
Very pleased with this episode. Loved the Officer Ford reveal. Interesting that Widmore is definitely Team Jacob. Does that mean Widmore’s good, or Jacob’s bad? A little turned off by the Sawyer/Charlotte connection. Unless she is poised to be Clementine’s mother in the Sideways reality (Is this what you meant by “pregnant”, Doc?) The overall theme of this episode seemed to be parents and children. The Kate/Claire scuffle. Smokey’s crazy mother. Sawyer’s quest to avenge his parents. Will be very interesting to see how Smokey’s mom ( and presumably Jacob’s too) shaped her sons to be who they are.
Good catch Greg. Very interesting if Charlotte is Sawyer’s baby mama in this reality, meaning children created in either reality would still be born, possibly to different parents. Same soul, different body? And if Kate is pregnant, it could be with island world’s version of David.
Remember, like the crusades, that it isn’t necessarily the God that does evil things, but those who interpret their God’s teachings that can realy make a mess. Ben and Widmore may both be FOR Jacob’s view, but that doesn’t mean they are on the same side.
Another parent/child reference was Miles/Pierre Chang’s non-estrangement in Sideways World.
