At the urging of reader questions (or a burning desire to get in on Saturday Night Live‘s next Hoda-and-Kathie Lee parody), Meredith Viera became “executive producer” for a day on the fourth hour of the Today show. And mostly what she found out was that, as usual, there was enough wine-guzzling to make even the most devoted oenophile/alcoholic nauseous. (It’s 10 a.m., people!) Seriously, the biggest challenge SNL faces when they do Hoda and Kathie Lee is that it’s impossible to top the real thing in ridiculousness. “They are lushes,” Meredith reported, making it clear she does not normally watch the fourth hour of her own show.
Honestly, does morning TV get any better than the fourth hour of Today? And what did everyone think of Kirk Cameron’s co-hosting duties during today’s show? (More good news for 1980s and 1990s nostalgics: Alan Thicke is co-hosting tomorrow, Ralph Macchio Thursday, and Andrew Shue Friday!)

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I’m not the only one who noticed the drinking! It’s gone from cute to ridiculous to scary. I mean, seriously! Ten in the morning!
Being not a prude and all, I absolutely loved watching Mer navigate the amazingness that is 4th hour with Hoda and KLG. These 2 are hilarious, and totally what I need after work (yes, I DVR the Today Show for 4th hour, just so I have a reason to laugh at 6pm). I love that Hoda and KLG teach us it’s okay to drink at 10am. They probably start at 9am just to get through the typical snooze fest that is 3rd hour of the Today show…
I actually watch the 4th hour of “Today”, but I don’t really watch the previous hours. I think the show is like watching an accident on the side of the road, I just can’t look away. Hoda is awesome, Kathie Lee is very strange and sometimes mean. Its a great combination to make fun of. I love the SNL parodies, I could watch them every week. And I really don’t mind that they drink all the time. Live it up! LOL
I had never watched the 4th hour of Today, and assumed the SNL parodies were playing those gals way over the top. Then one day I caught the 4th hour of Today and realized that, in fact, SNL plays down the ridiculousness that is the Hoda/Kathie Lee show.
GOOD LORD. I didn’t think it possible.
But that 4th hour is a trainwreck from start to finish, especially given that the 3rd hour is a boring wasteland of nothingness.
