I know, I know…Simon would call that performance “indulgent.” Maybe he’d prefer the three-part Idolatry embedded below, in which my cohost Kate Ward and I try to make sense of the terrible, terrible things Ryan Seacrest told us on Thursday night. AGREED! Can we just use wild card privileges? I would love a surprise at this point, Idol, and I HATE surprises! Well, at least that intoxicatingly awesome tone will not be wasted on the Idol stage and will hopefully be getting offers in the future.

GET RID OF ELLEN & KARA!
Lilly got booted for two reasons:
1.) They needed a black female in the top 12 so Paige Miles was a mercy token.
2.) Katie Stevens is 16 years old so she got the lions share of the tween vote.
This show has not been about a singing competition for a long time now, its a popularity contest at best with a little singing in it, don’t believe me? If Casey James was not good looking he would have never even made it past the first audition and he surely does not belong in the top 12 if singing was the only criteria. The credibility of this show took a major hit with last weeks eliminations, viewership and ratings will be falling faster than a punch from Mike Tyson. Simon knows this cow’s milk is starting to sour that is why he is leaving the farm.
@Ken. I disagree. Last season had some of the best singers ever! What other season in American Idol has there been 4 contestants that all got major record deals with RCA/19? I mean, Anoop came in #6 last year, and I’m willing to bet, in any other year, he would’ve made it to at least the Top 4. I thought he was a much better singer than winner, Jordin Sparks, and runnerup, Blake Lewis. As I said before, we got spoiled by the quality of singers last season. That’s probably why this season seems like a real letdown. Last season I was rooting for Anoop, Kris, Matt, Adam, Allison, Danny and Alexis. Who am I rooting for this season? Only 3. Lee, Siobhan and Crystal.
@Lee: Anoop was a much better singer than Jordin Sparks? What are you smoking? As much as I love Anoop, Jordin is clearly a superb pop singer, and she has proven that post-Idol. I doubt if Anoop can have the career that she’s enjoying right now.
@Jules: give up the fantasy. There is no way they will bring Alex back. There’s no doubt about it, he is a great natural vocalist, but if they bring him back they should also bring back Lilly and Katlyn.
@Lee, I thought you were going to disagree with me, instead you rambled on about people I never mentioned, did you even read my comment? not trying to insult you its just that you stood up and said “I disagree” and then rambled on about people that are not in my comment… kinda funny, scary and creepy at the same time, thanks for the laugh.

@Jon, I agree they should put lily and Katelyn in also, as they were just as cheated by VFTW as Alex. But they can only pick one wild-card (if they pick one) and if they do, it should go to Alex. He is the epitome of what Idol is all about. It’s about finding that inexperienced, diamond in rough, and turning them into a polished season performer. For the most part there’s universal agreement that out of ALL of the contestants, he had the most potential for displaying that growth, and making for much more interesting show! I believe it was Kara that said -”There isn’t a person out there that isn’t rooting for you. You can’t look at you, and see that performance and see where you went last week and see you today, and not ROOT for you. And what you have is an incredible, recordable voice… people would DIE to have that tone. I mean, producers, writers… and you have it… and you don’t even know what to DO with it! And THAT’S WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW, cause you’re gonna learn, and one day we’re gonna sit here and go, ‘OH MY GOD… look at THIS. Look where he came from.” … How much further does Katelyn and Lily have to grow? They pretty much act like they’ve been doing this for awhile. There’s no-one in the top 12 that give us that either. Well except Aaron, so I should say no-one anyone wants to see.

Yes, because he is SO MUCH WORSE than the Poor man’s David Archuleta (Aaron Kelly), off pitch Mop Top McGee (Tim Urban) Urban, and a Berenstain Bear (Andrew Garcia) .
He was way worse than Andrew, Aaron, and especially Tim Urban. He could never conquer his nerves and his vocals suffered majorly because of that.
Week one everyone was saying he should have went home, now ‘bring him back’?
He couldn’t handle the spotlight, and didn’t he realize that all of them can’t stay the whole time?
And also, this is a elimination reality show, not an ongoing show like “Rent” or “Glee”.
Fox does want a female, and I think they picked lame men for that reason. But OTOH, Tim is no Sanjaya! Just picked on since he’s the cutest.
Listen I totally agree I never heard such a greatversion of trouble. As much as Simon is being realistic he blew this one. I went to bed humming the song, woke up signing the song all day at work. Unique voice, loved Alex and he was and will not be forgettable. Tim Urban had 1 goo performance. He’ll be gone next week and Alex is gone idiots who vote!! Ellen put Alex on your show!!

Dan…you can criticize his stage fright all you want, because it was problematic. His vocals, however, did not “suffer” because of it. You can’t have half of an ear for music and make a comment like that. There were a lot of vocals that suffered; Alex’ did not.

For one thing he wasn’t “mopey”. But you addressed everything but his singing, which was flawless and that is what this show is about, right, singing talent??? You can have all the stage presence in the world, if you cant sing, then what good are you?? So what people who make the choice to continue watching this crap of a show have to look forward to is a bunch of grinning, lounge singing, bubblehead, teeny boppers. Becuase the people with real talent will be next to go. Sad thing is most people either want to hear some screaming theatrical idiot, sopping up his “storyline” (ok Big Mike, so you had a kid…miraculous!!!. Or that Tim Urban with his “where am I”, cheesy grin. I guess you have to have taste….which it is eventide you do not.

Urban’s rendition of “Apologize” was SO heinous, that he should have been dragged off the stage mid-performance, taken off the property, had his credentials taken away, and been given a one-way bus ticket back to what ever tuneless, tone-deaf place he came from.

The mullet was actually making me ill. Between that and Blowersux’s ratty hair and Casey Jame’s Farrah do this season has some of the worst Idol hair ever.

Right now there are two that I care about.. though I have to say watching back last week. Lacy did well..but I am pretty sure she doesn’t have the diversity of skills for all the themese weeks.
How do you know he wouldn’t have made it?! He has the voice. There is NO question about that. Simon was absolutely right. Once he got more comfortable on that stage he would have been a force to reckon with. Tim Urban’s Hallelujah was serviceable at best.

Alex has one of the most unique voices on the show. He has an amazing voice!! He is one that actually belongs on the show this year and they vote him off to let some of the others go to top 12. Some of the others don’t even belong on the show. The fans got this one wrong.
I would say that Alex had one of the most natural voices of the season.

I AGREE!! He was getting better each week with the nerves. He has a great, distinctive voice. All the wrong people went home. I sure won’t be going to the tour this year. Last year’s top five were SO MUCH better than this group (except for Siobhan and Crystal). There is some potential in this group, but the younger ones are just not ready!

AGREED! And I wish people would stop blaming his stage fright, and the American public, and get real, and say why he was REALLY denied the opportunity to continue to grow right before our eye’s. Seriously, does anyone really think America (even the tweens) thought Tim, Katie, Paige and Aaron were more worthy of spots in top 12 than the 4 that were eliminated? I can see where one might POSSIBLY make those arguments for the other 3, Todrick a little too late with the singing, & the Broadway thing not enough mass appeal. Katelyn, little too boring & sun-bunny-ish for allot of people to relate, Lily a little edgy, indie, and outside the mainstream. But all still more deserving than the fore-mentioned contestants. BUT ALEX!?! That’s completely and totally out-to-lunch! shy All American boy, super cute, (looks like a cross between a really young John Lennon and Rob Thomas), who can’t seem to contain his deep sensitivity, openness about his vulnerabilities and fears, and humility, (which makes him all the more real and HOT, the sweetest bashful smile, and a beautiful soul-melting voice! Are you kidding me? And we really think America didn’t want to continue to see him grow, more than some others that made it? Not only did everyone in industry have him pegged as one of the top few that would be left, I don’t anyone in the general public who didn’t either! Lets get real, EVERYONE knows there just isn’t big enough call volume this early on in the game to be able to outdo the Votefortheworst crowd! Every single one of their undeserving picks made it through! He was just starting to grow, come out of his shell, and just as we were falling in love with his voice and his sensitive personality, he’s smashed by a group of power-dialing mean-spirited people, in as Adam Levy described, what unfolded like a brutal puppy mauling! I sick watching it, and it still affects dayz later, and I’ve never cried about anything on this on this train wreck, until I saw that Thrus! It’s just wrong! People are continuing with this nonsensical analysis of his adorable stage fright, and America’s thoughts, are starting to look ridic! If the public outcry demanding Alex’s return, which even includes the support of celebs like Demi Moore, doesn’t tell the producers something went wrong with the voting, and he was cheated, they’re blind. He should be this years wild-card! He’s earned it in both vocal praise and growth, more than any other contestant to who’s been given it in past. I for one can’t stomach another episode til he’s back!
If he couldn’t handle the idea of losing he shouldn’t have gone on the show. Life is tough. The public obviously didn’t like him as much as they liked the people who stayed. Blaming Vote for the Worst is ridiculous. Alex Lambert didn’t have a fan base. Not everyone fell in love with his mullet, stage fright, and the thought that he could puke any minute.

So u didn’t fall in love with his young Rob Thomas mullet, or inexperience, its your right. But were you more in love with Tim brady bunch Urban? Aaron? Andrew? Were they more worthy? Would it have made for a more interesting show, watching Alex grow out of his puking, or watching Tim Urban send stiff smiles through the camera to tween girls?

Alex should have been given the wild card invitation to come back. AI just doesn’t seem to care about the travesty of their voiting system. I hope Kara takes Alex under her wing and helps him develop his raw tallent. He is destined for a bright future; I just hate that we were robbed of seeing him progress. AI is lame.
I feel so sorry for Casey. Esp after the way Kara kept on and on about him. Crystal is by far the best, but not many teeny-boppers will vote for her

If you paid attention to dial idol — you would not think that Alex would go because he was one of the top 2 vote getters — so i’m wondering if not enough people voted for him because of this or is Idol screwing with us? I’m really upset that Katelyn is not in the top 12 — especially over paige and lacey — comeon. And what is Idol trying to do to us with having the rolling stones be the first week — are they crazy? Bad singers can’t do rolling stones, even good singers would have a hard time.

EXACTLY. That’s what makes the outrage so intense. There IS so little talent this year and America got rid of almost all of it before even TOP 12. It’s ridiculous.
I don’t think this is an impressive top 12 this year. Half of them are good, half aren’t. I think some people want to keep Tim Urban and Katie Stevens in to see if they can get better. It happens every year when they keep the worst singers in the top 12. Nobody can touch Crystal Bowersox–she’s the best vocally.
One thing that stands out in this top 12 is there are no diva like people or people to bring comedy relief but can’t sing. These people are more into singing. And while I disagree with some of the choices the public chose, half of the 12 are good. I hope that Crystal, Siobahn and Michael stay in the competition, let alone the top 3.
I agree that only half are good or have potential (Crystal, Siobhan, Big Mike, Lee, Didi, and Casey). But when you look at how bad the other half is and realize that now only one person will get eliminated each week, you begin to realize how bad this season is going to be. That means that we are going to have to deal with the painfulness called ________________ (insert Katie Stevens, Paige Miles, Lacey Brown, Andrew Garcia, Tim Urban, or Aaron Kelly here) for at least 6 more weeks.
Michael – I 100% TOTALLY agree with this! There are not enough talented folks left to get us through 12 weeks of single eliminations. I don’t know if I can watch 2 hours of singing for only about 20 minutes worth of true talent!
ohhhh, must you be so right. This will be painful alright, to watch whole entire hour of this when there is only 2 or 3 that is worth watching. Now although it can be fun to hear what BS the judges will come up with as they give praises and boooos to their handpicked (yes they chose these people don’t forget)and see who backtracks on their words of wisdom.
Funny thing is they have a couple good singers but I don’t remember any of them after the show!! Except Lynche he was good this week! They are all pretty boring. I do like Lacey a bit. Paige is just becoming a sinking ship, that song scarred me, I liked her before.
Agreed 100%. This season is terrible. Alex doesn’t deserve to be let back because he’s one of 13 contestants who sing “okay”. I can’t believe the lack to talent and appeal this season.
I am still in a fog as to why they did not include Angela Martin in the Top 24, let alone the Top 12.
Also, someone should appeal to Miss Paula Abdul to come back to Idol, if only for a one-time appearance.
We know that sara, that’s why we want to keep the ones with at least some talent to keep it interesting. You will see tomorrow night when these guys makes the stones regret alowing them to sing their music. I can’t wait to hear Katie, Tim, Paige , Aaron , Lacey and Andrew butcher some of the stones beloved classics.

Sadly, there’s more truth to this than anyone will admit. Paige is the last minority woman standing. She also has potential, but I think that’ll run out this week when she butchers yet another song.
I DO NOT get Slezak’s (and others’) love for Katelyn – she was stagey, theatrical, and completely non-believable on stage. She ruined the Scientist – that rendition was so syrupy and over-the-top, I think it’s what gave Crystal diabetes complications.

The only thing standing between Bowersox and the win is either her health or a Kris Allen-like surprise from either Didi or Casey. That’s it.
Bowersox is the only non karaoke singer in the bunch. How did an actual artist even got on this show?
Anyone singing someone else’s music composition is doing karaoeke isn’t it?? Now there’s good musicians who are able to sing karaoeke but in their style. We always joke around that the greatest karaoeke singer in the world was Michael Bolton Think about it for a few seconds what Karaoeke means. Now would Crystal`Bowersox , Alex , and perhaps Siobahn can comeout with a fresh Cd based on new songs their style, the answer is “YES”. I am not being picky, just scratching my head even at Simon who likes using karaoeke as a terminology to critizise singers who try to copy the original song, and sometimes if they get too close to the original they get blasted. Then if they wandered to far they get blasted for taking to much chances
on a competition so important as this ,quoted to many times by these
judges. I welcome your comments on this because things does not make sense anymore.
Good question. How can a vocally talented artist got on this show ? Since it is obvious that in order to get picked by the judges, you shouldn’t show any talent at all in Hollywood, for example, Jermaine Sellers, Andrew Garcia Tim Urban , Lacey.

This is a weak talent season. I will record this while watching my other show and later fast forward to the one I like and vote like crazy. If this show lasts another season, please only really talented people.
