Image Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage.comThe AP has news that Julien’s Auctions will be selling 22 pieces of custom-made furniture that Michael Jackson had commissioned for his London home. The items are perhaps what you might expect: “An elegant seashell encrusted silk upholstered ‘Shells’ bergere with silver leaf front legs”; “a lavish ‘Swarovski’ crystal embellished bergere finished in platinum-gold leaf and upholstered in metallic leather”; “a luxuriant faux leopard and Ostrich feather trimmed ‘Wild Cat’ bergere”. No one ever accused Jackson of having subdued tastes, of course. (And if, like me, were unclear what a “bergere” was, it’s actually a French armchair. Very classy. Especially when it’s in leopard print.) Julien’s will be recreating Jackson’s London home in the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas starting June 14. (Which only makes sense: I hear bergeres should be seen in their natural habitat.) The actual auction will take place on June 25, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Since most of us won’t be buying—items seem to start in the $16,000 range—my scenario for you is this: Say you had all the money in the world. And you really, really loved a pop star who died, but who also had kind of, um, particular taste, that maybe didn’t match your own taste. Would you still buy one of their bergeres for sentimental reasons?

I bought a faux leopard and Ostrich feather-trimmed bergere at Rooms To Go just last week! If only I’d waited a few days I could’ve had a crack at MJ’s.

I would get the sea shell encrusted chair or the one with the ostrich feathers and put either one of them in my bedroom, which, if I had the money, would easily house one of those items. I love feathers, gold or silver leaf if it’s only one item. Not a room full.
