What do you want to see from Katherine Heigl?

Last night, Ausiello broke the news that Katherine Heigl will likely not return to Grey’s Anatomy. It won’t be a difficult adjustment. Dr. Izzie Stevens — who has been on a leave of absence for more than half of this season — is already out of Grey’s viewers’ minds, and even though her character’s plotlines have been some of the show’s most ludicrous, her actual exit was one long yawn. (Or maybe one of those weird “unpredictable” yawns with the multiple short spurts, if you consider Heigl’s history of tension with showrunners.) Grey’s fans may be sorry Heigl won’t be back, but no one who’s still watching the show at this point is watching for her.

It looks like Heigl wants to continue to focus on her film career. It would be interesting to see her branch out from romantic comedies, though perhaps getting bzzzzzzed under the table at a fancy restaurant (The Ugly Truth) and playing the just-as-beautiful duckling to Malin Ackerman (27 Dresses) is the best fit for Heigl. Not too many other actresses could fumble with a gun and ask Ashton Kutcher, “Have you seen the SIZE of this thing?” without making me wish I had a huge gun of my own to point at myself. (I’m referring to the “coming soon” trailer for Killers, embedded after the jump.) Heigl makes her romantic-comedy roles less clunky than you’d expect, and I’m more likely to watch something silly if she’s in it.

What about you? Will Seattle Grace suffer without her, or is Izzie already gone in your mind anyway? And what about Heigl’s future? Take our poll below and then sound off in the comments.

Heigl should go live on a desert island, never to be heard from again!

    • Mariah

      Here! Here!

      • Jen

I believe you mean: Hear, hear. Honest mistake.

    • Q

      PLEASE YES PLEASE?

    • green sleeves

      wah wah wah.

    • mari

My husband doesn’t like her too. I used to watch “Grey’s” and whenever she’s on and my hubby happened to be in the room with me he would jokingly ask, “Is she crying again?” According to him she always looks like she’s about to cry :D

      • alex

agreed. or get a PR person so that people don’t blatantly know what a jerk you are. You’re a celebrity, you’re supposed to put a mask of nice-ness so that we like you.

    • LadyJNewYork

I’ll drink to that!! Bottoms up!! LOL

    • Charlie

If by “deserted island” you mean “ninth circle of hell,” then I’m all in.

      • Tyler

AMEN!!!! Dont let the door hit you on the way out.

and we all know she’s only going to be known for her role as Izzie.

    • LAJACKIE

      My thoughts exactly.

    • MzTeaze

Amen to that – now pass the wine.

  • Kay

I won’t miss her on Grey’s. It’s not like the show has been good anyways. It went downhill after season 2/3ish.

I absolutely loved her when she was first on the rise, but all these stories of her being difficult have turned me off to her talents. I know it shouldn’t matter, as long as she’s a good actress (which she is), but it bothers me.

Be grateful for what you have, woman!

    • green sleeves

How many stories have there really been of her being difficult though? And how many come from reputable sources? She might very well be a huge pain in the ass, but from the way gossip blogs go on and on about her, you’d think she was the most difficult, demanding star Hollywood has ever seen. I’m sure she wanted out of GA, but some of these things are clearly misrepresentations of comments she made in jest (the Letterman appearance).

      • Buh Bye Kat

No green it’s not the editing. THere’s been too many instances where she’s bad mouthed the producers and writers. Plus I remember reading that she demanded to get off another show back in the day, Roswell I think. So her prima donna attitude isn’t new.

      • Daniel

Exactly. There have been no incidents where she bad mouthed anyone on the show. Just stupid tabloids making issues out of nothing. The only thing you could possibly say was her withdrawal from the Emmy’s was perhaps not handled very well. That said she was 100% correct. The writing sucked for her character that year. What is really sad is how this woman – who is really one of the nicest and most genuine people in Hollywood has been demonized and vilified by press. It is a real shame.

      • Be Real

It is clear that “green sleeves” is Katherine Heigl and “Daniel” is her husband Josh Kelley.

Katherine doesn’t bring anything to Grey’s and the show is much better off without her. Even when acting she whines incessantly. Gosh girl, grow up already.

  • Claire

None of the above. I want her to crash and burn for seemingly being a generally unprofessional actress

    • Tony

I agree 100%. The number of times she’s spoken out against the show that made her a star – seemingly because she wanted out of her contract to make movies – is the height of unprofessionalism. I haven’t liked a single movie she’s been in since Grey’s started (except Knocked Up and frankly, would it have been better or worse had Anne Hathaway starred as orignially planned?)

She peaked with the original Denny storyline, coasted on it for another season and a half, and her unprofessional, unlikable behavior led the writers to make Izzy unlikeable.

      • Q

I would have actually seen Knocked Up if Hathaway had been in it. She’s lovely, funny and charming. You know, the opposite of Heigl.

      • Buh Bye Kat

I think Knocked Up would have been better with Hathaway. I like Seth Rogen in the movie, but Heigl rubbed me the wrong way.

    • paige

f’real… she just has such a b!tch face

    • L.T.

I think Heigl can carry a movie, she has the it factor. i will watch a movie if she is in it! Go Katherine!

    • Carlos

I voted none of the above as well. The intitial headline asked if the readers had any advice for Ms. Heigle, here’s mine:
      Be less ungrateful.

  • Joanna Dunne

I agree, go away Heigl nobody likes you

  • Sam

I’ve only seen the first 2.5 seasons of Greys, but she was the best part when I was watching. It must be getting bad if she’s leaving so soon after George (the other best original character.)

    • Buh Bye Kat

She and George’s characters were great at the beginning. But by the time they had the characters hooked up, they went way down the hill. I don’t know if it was because of the off-camera drama or the storyline, but both suffered on-screen.

  • Drew

OMG Speak for yourself! I have been an Izzie fan from day one and I still am. I understand that a lot of people aren’t watching for her, but you can’t say that “no one” is. I will really miss her, and I know others will too.

    • Daniel

Agreed. I only watched the show for her.

  • Kim

    yes, go away

  • jones

I think her attitude and sense of entitlement are really annoying. I would like to see her take an extended break from acting.

    • Patti

Amen. And stop smoking now that you acquired a child.

      • Daniel

She stopped smoking in July..before her child was adopted. Try being at least accurate with your hateful remarks.

    • Karen

      So true!

  • Renee

I actually don’t miss Katherine Heigl on Greys…perhaps it is because I haven’t enjoyed her character since the George storyline in season 3 or something like that. Sadly, I remember reading stories about her horrible on-set behavior back in the days of Roswell – it was rumored that she was one of the reasons the show was canceled.
I hope she has good luck in her future movies…here’s to hoping she’ll branch out from the rom-com genre; she has proved on GA that she is capable of very good acting outside of the silly.

    • Andy Bluebear

“it was rumored that she was one of the reasons the show was canceled.”

This is how nasty rumors about KH get started and spread, thanks to retards like you.

      • Karen

        That was harsh Mr. Bluebear…

    • Neil

I highly doubt she was one of the reasons Roswell got cancelled. Roswell was constantly on the bubble (the tobasco bottle campaign saved it the first time, and UPN probably had nothing better to air when they begin airing it).

As for Heigl herself, I’d love too see her in some more dramatic roles. She was incredible on Grey’s (even when she had dire material – eg. the middle section of season five) and I’m hoping that her sucess will continue. Although, I’m going to remain positive and hope she returns to Grey’s for a few episodes to tie up Izzie’s storyline and give the character a nice ending (I want to see some more scenes of her with Christina, Meredith, and Alex).

  • jen

never liked heigl. hated her character on grey’s and actively avoided any movie she was “starring” in. how she is one of the topmost paid actresses in hollywood today is completely nonsensical. she always seems so full of herself and self-righteous. happy for her, her marriage, and her new child, but couldn’t care less about her acting career.

  • Chris

I’d love to see her career take off to direct to video fare.

  • Samantha

I’m so glad None of the Above was a choice in the poll. I liked her until Izzie’s self-involved ‘I can eat a whole tub of butter’ speech on Greys. Then it just went downhill from there.

  • nykolus

the back of her head as she’s walkin out the door!!!

  • Nathan

What I want to see of Katherine Heigl wasn’t mentioned above. :P

  • milessilverberg

Honestly, at this point she needs to change her name, leave her hair dark, and take a bunch of smaller roles, so that she can get some distance from her current image. As it stands now, the mention of her name makes me NOT want to see a film.

    • Karen

      ditto!
