'Captain America': Which actor do you want to see behind the shield?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

captain-america-castingImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Austin Gorum/PR Photos; David Gabber/PR Photos Despite rumors that several actors (including Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, and Scott Porter) have tested for the role of Captain America, Mike Fleming at Deadline.com believes the superhero role is now a race between three actors: Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and Chris Evans (The Fantastic Four). Captain America is a fearless crusader for freedom and Our Way of Life, so who do you think has what it takes to fill those shoes? Does Evans’ previous work as the Human Torch help or hurt his prospects?

SCOTT PORTER!!!He’s the one I feel would do the role most justice. Chris Evens doesn’t even closely resemble the character

    • Tim (@rural_juror)

Nope. Ryan McPartlin! He’s already Captain Awesome, he should be Captain America too!

      • darclyte

        Agreed.

      • Karl

Michael C. Hall from Dexter would be perfect casting.

      • Katy

        This!!

      • Orange

I totally agree! I see no one better than Mr McPartlin!

      • carol

        My thoughts exactly.

      • Johnification

I would like to add my vote to the Captain Awesome – Captain America campaign.

      • Jai

Seriously Awesome would be more awesome as Captain A

      • Howard

        Absolutely. Awesome As America!

      • MaryA.

        Ryan McPartlin would be perfect!

      • Anthony

Ryan McPartlin is perfect for this part!

      • chrish

I agree. Ryan McPartlin would be perfect.

    • Bill

Awesome from Chuck is definitely the guy to play Cap…

    • L

si Leonidas, bagay ni Captain america.

  • Kathy

    Chris Pine.

    • Melissa

he’s got a lock on the star trek series. he can’t be greedy.

      • Dawn

He is also suppose to be playing Jack Ryan in a reboot of that series.

      • Mavis

Ryan Renyolds is being greedy by being both the Green Lantern and Dead Pool, so why can’t Chris Pine be greedy! But I most prefer Ryan McPartlin! Captain Awesome as Captain America. . . what could be better?

      • harry

        @Mavis, I agree.

    • Chris

Go one up and get Chris Hemsworth, aka Kirk’s Father.

      • Jim

Can’t he is already playing Thor

    • RachelR

      TOTALLY!!!

  • Jay

    It should be Brad Pitt.

    • Brian

You have to be joking!! there’s no way Brad (who I respect immensely as an actor) could bulk up enough to play the Cap without looking like he had a fat suit on!!

  • waya

They all look boring. Why don’t they cast an unknown?

    • crispy

Captain America IS boring. He’s one of the most vanilla comic book characters ever created.

      • Nshi

Don’t be a snob, cripsy. I’m sure if he was Colonel France, you’d be eating it up.

      • Nshi

        you too, crispy :)

      • KingLion

You must not read “The Ultimate’s”, where Captain America is a utter badass that takes no shit from no from and does whatever it takes to achieve victory for the glory of America, vanilla he is not. And seeing as how they took the Ultimate Nick Fury and brought him into the mainstream movies, I could the same being done with Captain America, to gritty up the movie.

      • therealeverton

You’re thinking of Superman. Captain America the movie is likely to be a little more Ultimate Captain than Old school Marvel Cap. Even so Cap’s permanent “fish out of water” status and Pre-war values make for interesting drama and comedy. He may match Superman’s bbig boy scout outlook but he’s more interesting in his sleep than Superman. But then again, which comic book Super hero isn’t?

      • paige

Crispy!!!! we disagree!!!! but not entirely… the idea of Captain America IS very boring but when you think about it, its quite fascinating. young kid brainwashed by military propaganda has a jones to fight in a war for a country that thinks he dont got what it takes- undergoes some crazy experiment just to prove he got what it takes and miraculously not only survives, but is a damn super hero! now he’s the governments propaganda tool and he’s completely ok with that. fast forward to a couple years and the super hero is frozen in ice. fast forward many years later and he is awoken to a world that has moved on without him- typical fish-out-of water scenario + misunderstood old guy in a young body = fascinating stuff! i know i skimmed over alot of plot points and such.. I have alot that the character can translate well on screen, especially since this is taking place in the ’40′s… as for who should play him? I will always love Scott Porter but im not too sure about him playing Steve Rogers… not Chris Evans, he was perfect as Johnny Storm and should stay there. well whoever gets it needs to add lots of muscle

      • crispy

He’s just a bland Boy Scout on steroids. Yawn!

      • Lay Jeno

But him being a Boy Scout should be a turn on for you, no?

      • Brett

Hopefully, the movie Cap will be “old school Cap” and NOT “Ultimates Cap.” “Ultimates Cap” is racist, reactionary, and an “anti-Boy Scout.” I’d rather see a reasonably faithful adaptation of the original character instead of Hollywood’s attempt to make him “relevant” or to give him some kind of twist to appeal to the mewling fanboys who scream for Jensen Ackles, Scott Porter, Garrett Hedlund, or other boys who should not be playing a man’s part. None of the three finalists really look very substantial.

      • paige

Crisp, if you read any comics you should read Ed Brubaker’s run on Captain America– the man is dope. or read The Ultimates…

      • therealeverton

Racist? when was that? The “do you think this a stands for France line? A mix of the two would be best, especially for the costume, which cannot be worn when he awakes in the present.

      • harry

        here here!!! @KingLion

    • Jenny

Jensen Ackles, he’s not that unknown but he’s not like a super star! So yeah Jensen Ackles definitly!

      • harry

        Jensen Ackles FTW!!!

      • Anne

I would only see that movie if Jensen was in it.

      • Brie

Definitely Jensen Ackles! I thought he was going to be doing it anyway. And I totally agree with Anne. I’d only see a Captain America movie if Jensen Ackles was in it. Otherwise, there would be no point. Boring is just not my style, unless I can see a cute boy.

      • zkaa

        JENSEN ACKLES..all the way..
        yeaahh..I’m agree with Anne..

  • c

I heard that it was definitely John Krasinski, who I don’t really see in any kind of superhero scenario. I think an unknown would be best.

    • Trey

Everyone said the same thing about Tobey Maquire pre-Spiderman. Personally, I vote for Josh Holloway.

    • Amidala

Wow, if this is true, seeing him in a superhero movie is just weird…. I can’t even imagine it… Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that guy, but he’s just totally not superhero quality.

  • Wonderfoo

Jensen Ackles is still the only way to go.

    • Dee

      Absofreakinglutely.

    • Jeff

      Agreed.

    • darclyte

I thought that I read that he already took himself out of the running due to a schedule conflict with the proposed shooting scheduled.

      • Chris

I want this 2 happen ASAP!

      • katemonster

I think it’s true Jensen can do it because of Supernatural season 6, but those quotes of his are over a year old before he even tested. That was a response to fans saying he should get the role before they even began casting.

    • ObiHave

After some acting classes. Yelling and pouting does not an actor make.

      • Brett

ObiHave, you hit the nail on the head. Ackles poses, snarls, and yells. That’s it. He’s at his best on the small screen for an hour each week scarfing down burgers and driving a muscle car.

      • Nic

I disagree with you both. Jensen is a great actor. Hw would do great.

    • Tony

You better believe it. Ackles is really the only person I’ve seen mentioned who I think could do the role any kind of justice. Scott Porter might be able to but that’s about it.

    • Nicolle

Ackles for the win… talented and ridiculously good-looking and believable in the role.

    • Jen

Completely agree with you here. Jensen Ackles is the perfect choice for the role.

    • CandyMaize

I’d love to see Jensen as Captain America. I think his SPN shooting schedule prevents him from being able to go after the role, but I certainly think that he’s more than capable of doing an excellent job. He’s very talented. Dean Winchester is only ONE character he can disappear into…

    • harry

      here here!!!

  • yoo

Has Chris Evans EVER made a good movie?

    • lefty

      Not Another Teen Movie?

    • Allison

      Sunshine

      • therealeverton

As above , yes he has. Also being in bad movies doesn’t make you a bad actor, just an unlucky one.

      • Mariah

        Word. Sunshine was a trip!

      • llevinso

Sunshine was very good. And he was good in it, which was surprising because before that movie I thought he sucked.

    • terry

      Well, I liked Cellular.

  • Dee

    Channing Tatum

    • Trey

I don’t know if his one facial expression can hack it.

      • Freddie

lmfao!!! and his monotone voice. God he can’t act!

  • bunker

Mike Vogel is the hottest one. So him.

    • Brett

From that picture, I’d say Vogel has the lock on any upcoming biopic of Ally Sheedy.

      • Nic

Who would be good for the role for you, Brett? Yourself? *Shakes head*

  • Mel

Is it just me or would Jesse Spencer, House’s Dr. Chase be awesome for this part?

  • Jurry

Chris Evans can’t act and Digitalspy said that Krasinski was out.

  • Sally

    Stephan Colbert.

    • madduxfan

Captain I Am America and so can You.

      • llevinso

        Hahaha! Loving it.

    • Allison

      Hear, hear!

    • Mary

That would be completely awesome. Stephen! Stephen! USA! USA!

  • Brandon

Any Captain America discussion should begin and end with Jensen Ackles. He’s certainly got the look, and anyone who’s been watching SUPERNATURAL the past few years definitely knows he’s got the acting chops.

    • Dee

      Hear, hear!

    • emily

      yes..perfection

      • Brett

I’d be happy to have a discussion with Jensen Ackles about going to see “Captain America.” Ackles would be great….in the audience.

    • immie_8

I definately agree. No other actor has the range and charisma that he does. Cast him and I’m definately buying a ticket!

      • rein

I totally agree. Jensen Ackles is a great actor. and I am so buying a ticket if they cast him.

    • geekgurl

I agree. He’s got the acting chops to pull it off, but with Supernatural coming back for another season it probably won’t happen.

    • Nix

I keep hearing this from SPN fans, and yet I keep tuning in to see what they mean, and all I see is Joey Tribbiani.

  • et

    But what about Stephen Colbert?

    • Big Walt

Why are all of these guys so damn young. I was thinking Aaron Eckart, at least someone who’s grown up.

  • Ruben

Why was Sam Worthington taken off the consideration list! He’s Captain America to me and I read comics and I think he would be amazing.

    • Steph

Sam Worthington cannot speak in a good American accent. Yeah, everyone loves Avatar but I saw him in that and in Terminator and his accent is too iffy.

      • Brian

But the American accents of WWII would be so different to today, it would make SW more authentic. And BTW waht *is* an American accent?? based on population demographics nowadays, it’s 1/3 latino!!

    • MDS

The movies producers have explicitly stated that the actor is going to be an american.
