Boring. This whole season is boring. Nobody has any personality. Or if they do they are real annoying (Toddrick)
I would not pick up the phone for any of these guys. The Big Mike and Aaron Kelly praise is so out of proportion to their performances that I am completely baffled. The women are sooo much better.
Totally agree! The girls were so much better & unique (at least 4 of them). I would not miss any of the boys performance tonight. Boring!
There are plenty of wonky girls on this season. They are not “sooo much better” than the boys. Only 2 girls stand out. Crystal and Siobhan. The rest are boring.
Kara is no Paula! I don’t buy her tears. OMG. She doesn’t even know how to “perform”.
First thought: I am so over the whole acoustic-guitar thing it’s not even funny. It was refreshing when Jason Castro and Brooke White used their understated vocals to cut through the tradition of overblown diva bulls##t 2 years ago, and it was perfectly acceptable that somebody like Kris continued the trend last year, but now it seems like 2 out of every 3 Caucasian contestants (especially the men) is coming out of the world’s sleepiest coffeehouse. And the ones who aren’t guitar-strummers are odd throwbacks to old seasons when performances didn’t have to be as sophisticated as they do in the current Idol era.
Of course, it doesn’t help that the judges are giving such maddeningly inconsistent feedback that almost every person on that stage has to sing while paralyzed with fear. Half the reason Crystal, Siobhan, and to a lesser extent Mike are such standouts is because they’re the only ones who seem to feel okay about what they’re doing.
Agreed. I think the first FIVE guys used a guitar tonight. And even Simon said that the judges are being too weird with their contradictory critiques, but I cry ‘too little, too late’…damage is done. Now you want to start using reason and logic? Pishaw.
I remember seeing quite a few guitars and an electric mandolin in the girls’ performances too so it’s not “especially the men”.
maybe my bar is set too low but i thought most everyone did great. todrick and tim who usually make me puke, were good. i thought tim doing “hallelujah” meant certain doom, but it actually fit his voice. alex is still my dark horse fave and even big mike didn’t annoy me. lee was pitchy, but still good, casey and aaron weren’t bad although aaron did look like he had to pee. andrew, who was so ready to take top 5 is probably out. a guy singing “genie” is a HUGE mistake. probably todrick and andrew going home
I dunno…I just didn’t get the judges overpraising of “Big Mike”. “This Woman’s Work” is one of the most beautiful songs ever and Kate Bush’s version is understated, emotional, touching, and gorgeous. Sorry..but Mike turned it into a bombastic over-the-top theatric performance and stripped away any melody of the original.
Agree Mark. I kept thinking Studdard 2.0.
Hell, I didn’t even recognize the song, and I love Kate Bush. That’s how over the top it was.
Did anyone else hear Seacrest announce it as a Maxwell song?? I guess he did a cover of it…
Yes, “Fireflies” is a cheesy song, but I was listening to it the other day and I thought it would sound really cool played on acoustic guitar. And then my boy Lee did it. I was quite pleased.
I really don’t understand the big deal with Big Mike.
My guess is Aaron and Todrick are going home.
Lee is the best singer in the competition
I agree. Lee is my favorite! I dont even like the song Fireflies, but I loved his version.
Agreed…I hope he goes far, but not necessarily win. I think coming in 3rd-6th is almost better than making the Top 2.
HA HA HA! If that’s your best you certainly have very low standards.
This season is so boring. If things don’t change, I don’t think I can take watching it. Casey was the best of the bunch. I did not get the crazy, “over the top” love from the judges. It was not that good.
Records I would buy: Alex and Casey.
Performance: BMike
Just so tired and over it: Aaron and Andrew
In mmy previous post, I meant the love for Big Mike – he was not that good.
Casey, Mike and Alex are in. after that it’s up for grabs.
Suggested Idolatry topic: Would Idol be more compelling if they went back to banning musical instruments? I say yes. It seems to have effectively weeded out a number of true power singers. Too much sleepy, coffeehouse music this season.
someone wrote an article that said maybe Paula was the genius behind the show and she was probably responsible for picking the talent .. i’m starting to believe that .. this season blows
That’s hysterical…could be true after this snoozefest of a show.
I second that. Show has definitely gone downhill in all aspects without Paula, it is just starting to become apparent how important she was!
Am I the only one who didn’t like Mike’s performance? Couldn’t stand it
Nope, far from the only one.
You are not alone, little one.
Everyone in the family. We’re thinking there must be something wrong with us or the sound system. Duh! It was plainly mediocre.
