The new Tron trailer lays out some of the story for the FX-heavy film, and while the visuals still look crazy cool:
I’m a lot less jazzed about the daddy-issues story, though. Do you want to watch Flynn and Flynn Jr. work through their complicated father-son relationship, or do you just want to watch Tron Guy let his freak flag fly?

I think it looks good so far; visually spectacular! I think the father-son thing won’t impede the story, it’s just a means to get back to Tron-land.
oh… and YAY for Bruce Boxleitner making an appearance!
Yeah, I couldn’t believe it took me more than two seconds to place his voice. Bruce!
Wow.
Olivia Wilde on a couch.
Count me in.
Wow, that looks surprisingly badass! It’s got a great Dark Knight feel to it, and thankfully doesn’t look like just another CGI cheesefest.
Yes, actually, it does look to be as terrible as the original was.
Meh. Maybe I’ll see it on Netflix.
Really, at the end, “whoa”? Matrix much? Tron should be above copying the copycats.
Nitpick much?
No, I don’t. But I was watching this thinking, “I bet this is going to get a lot of comparisons to the Matrix,” and then they end it with that weak Keanu “Whoa”. They’re inviting criticism with that.
Yeah, because that is COMPLETELY original to the Matrix, never uttered in a film ever before.
Young kid so blown away by his own skills inside a computer = Matrix. If they don’t want to draw the comparison, they should drop the Keanu act.
yeah, nothing like when Flynn starts to play his first game in the original…..
Wait….Wait….Wait. So the sequel to Tron is ripping off the Matrix? Thats what your saying? Wow. Tell me if this sounds familiar? In a world where computer programs are portrayed as people, an evil program strives to convert the world into his image and rule both the computer world and the real world. Although hope seems lost, one program has the key to breaking the computer universe free and ridding it of the evil program. Throughout his journey, hes assisted by a likeminded woman who he loves, and at one point an ooolllld program who has the key to his success. Does that sound familiar? Plot of Matrix, which was made in 1999, right!? IT WAS ALSO THE EXACT PLOT OF TRON MADE IN 1982 you dumb f%#!
Nice reading skills. Try again:
“Tron should be above copying the copycats.” i.e. Matrix was a copycat of Tron, and now this is trying to look like a copycat of Matrix (okay, copycat is harsh, but you know what I mean. Actually, you probably don’t, given the lack of comprehension you’ve shown so far).
yeah, im sure thats exactly what you meant. the first time. this is the third post you’ve wrote, two of which clarifying the first dumb post.
Sigh. Alright, I didn’t realize I made it so complex. Let me lay it out further: “Tron should not be copying the copycats”. What is Tron copying? The Matrix. How do I refer to the Matrix in the sentence? “copycats”. So, I called Matrix a copycat. A copycat of what?
If I never heard another comment comparing the kid to Neo before the movie comes out, I’ll come back and say I was wrong, they’re totally not trying to evoke the Matrix with this trailer.
Awwww hell yeah!
Daft Punk is doing the score. How can you not love this?
Exactly.
An original author (or filmmaker) is s/he who can hide her/his predecessors. So stop this copycat c r a p.
And this isn’t hiding anything. Don’t get me wrong, it looks great, visually. But the kid better not be Neo 2.0, and that bit at the end doesn’t give me hope.
and then you say things like “Neo 2.0″. How can he be Neo 2.0? Bare with me, but if Neo is technically Tron/Flynn 2.0, then Flynn 2.0 can’t really be Neo 2.0 . Who really has a “comprehension” problem here?
Now who’s nitpicking? No, I don’t think he’s the character from the Matrix. How literal I have to be for you to understand what I’m saying?
YOUR WHOLE ARGUEMENT IS THAT THE KID SAYS “WHOA”. MY WHOLE POINT WHICH YOU CLEARLY DONT GET IS THAT WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE CLAIMING THAT ANYTHING TRON RELATED IS RIPPING OFF MATRIX. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY YOU GET THE MATERIAL,SO WHY DONT YOU GET HOW DUMB IT IS, LITERALLY DUMB, TO PISS ON ANYTHING TRON BY SAYING THAT ONE LINE SHOWS THAT THEY ARE RIPPING OFF MATRIX. wow, just shut up
“Whoa” is synonymous with Keanu Reeves. Reeves is synonymous with the Matrix. If you don’t want your computer movie to be unfairly compared to the Matrix, don’t have your young male lead say “Whoa”. That’s all I’m saying.
Did the powers that be yank this from circulation already? Looks like the video can no longer be found…
