The newest Iron Man 2 trailer ran after the Oscars last night. The first preview was pretty heavy on Mickey Rourke, but this new trailer spreads the love around to the rest of the cast: more Scarlett Johansson as the mysterious Black Widow, more Sam Rockwell as the villainous Justin Hammer, and more Don Cheadle as the new, improved Jim Rhodes.
I’m pretty excited about everything we’re seeing. The dialogue has all the witty screwball zip from the first Iron Man (“I want one”), but you also get the sense that the filmmakers are going for some Batman-ish gravitas. (Doesn’t that interrogation scene between Whiplash and Tony Stark remind you, in a good way, of the interrogation scene from The Dark Knight?) I’m also pretty stoked about the squadron of evil Iron Man copies; is it too late to rename the movie Iron Men?
I do wish we got a chance to hear Johansson’s Black Widow — she doesn’t say a word in this trailer. In the comic books, the Black Widow was a Russian spy, and I was looking forward to catching a preview of her accent. (Russian is not easy to pull off! Just ask Harrison Ford.)
What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you liking these first looks at Iron Man 2? Have you gotten over your initial hesitation about Mickey Rourke’s exploding wrist-whips? And which suit of armor do you like best: the red-and-gold original, the heavy-ammo War Machine version, or that red-and-silver mini-suit at the end of the trailer?

It was a great trailer. No surprise that Mickey got a lot of screnetime because he is the man of the moment. keeping Scarlett silent and unexposed in the trailer is a good thing because fans were really pissed that she was cast. Plus she can`t put butts in the seats to save her life. Pretty girl, zero star power.
Yeah, hearing her talk would’ve ruined the trailer for me. I’m still mad she’s in the movie.
I’m not a fan of Mickey Rourke, but his performance looks compelling. Trailer looks good. It was the only trailer to receive applause when I was at a Manhattan movie theater last week.
Have watched the trailer 5 times – so looking forward to the movie coming out!
Awesome trailer! I liked how they used more Mickey Rourke just so we get the sense of what he is doing in the movie. I’d like to see the same thing for Scarlett cause I have no idea what her part will be.
They’re probably having to loop Scarlett’s bad accent until it sounds right.
Still hot though.
I would love to play with her golden globes!
They should’ve left the suitcase armor as more of a surprise in the film instead of putting it in the trailer.
As expected the action will be great. But Downey one liners have me in tears everytime.and that suitcase armor is crazy! Wasn’t that excited to see the movie till now!
So, there are 3 villains? That sort of thing didn’t work at all for Spiderman 3.
X2 had multiple villains and was a fantastic movie; Spiderman 3 sucked because the script/story was so bad. It’s all about the story and cast.
Iron Man 2 has two villains just like Spider-Man 2. Black Widow isn’t a villain, she works for Sam Jackson (as evidenced by the SHIELD logo on her catsuit).
The trailer was good… can’t wait to see the film!
Sam Rockwell-talk about great one liners. Love him, Mickey looks great in this, but he does give me the willies.
I’m glad Scarlett is not talking. In fact, they should take her out of the movie entirely. I still cannot believe she’s going to be in this. Ugh. Otherwise I’m really looking forward to seeing it!
Yeah, when I see her fat head appearing in trailers I just close my eyes and fantasize about Emily Blunt sauntering into frame and delivering a pitch-perfect Russian accent…but then I open my eyes and well, ya know…”ScarJo” is still there.
Anne Hathaway should have done the Black Widow role. Recently , she pulled off a very credible Russian accent ( phone sex operator) in “Valentine’s Day”, she proved she could do action in “Get Smart “, and she conveyed an edge in “Rachel Getting Married”.
man why all this hate for Scarlett? she is a great actress and I think she’ll pull this off well
Johannsen is an award-winning actress (BAFTA for “Lost in Translation”). I’d suggest cutting her the tiniest bit of slack before dismissing her in this movie.
I loved her in that and had high hopes for her acting career. Unfortunately that was the only thing I really think she has done well. It’s been downhill since then. The last few things I’ve seen her in I’ve literally been cringing every time she’s been on screen. Her acting is no longer up to par.
Scarlett Johansson was also great in A Love Song For Bobby Long
She’s too young to play a villain, sorry! The great thing about the Iron Man movies is that everyone in them is old enough to have developed a personality/backstory. What’s Johansson, 24? Shoulda signed Jolie for this one.
You’ve obviously not seen her “acting” in any of those Woody Allen collaborations she did, have you? Well count yourself lucky.
