'The Runaways' trailer: Finally, the focus is on Dakota Fanning

Here’s what I find interesting: When I used to watch Taylor Swift swing her hips and flip her hair as a teen, it made me slightly uncomfortable. But I’m fine watching young Dakota Fanning sex it up as The Runaways’ 15-year-old lead singer Cherie Currie. Is that because Fanning is only acting (and it’s based on a true story), because sexy slithering™ is more fitting in rock ‘n roll, or because I haven’t seen the entire movie yet?

Dakota Fanning is a great, young actress – and beautiful, too! I love Kristen Stewart, too – she’s gorgeous and wonderful to watch on screen.

Agree Anna. Dakota is a great actress. Did you see The Secret Life of Bees? She was amazing in that. Kristen is wonderful too. They’ve both been wonderful since they were child actors, although Dakota started younger than Kristen, who was 12, I think, for Panic Room. Whether The Runaways is a good film or not, those two young women are marvelous actresses.

Fanning is excellent, always has been.
Stewart is wooden, lifeless, and seems limited to one sulky expression in everything she does.

Kristin Stewart looks nice with blonde hair, she looks really terrible here. Yes yes i know its a movie role and she’s playing Joan Jett – but in real life she needs to ditch the dark hair, it washes her out.
Um, the movie looks o.k. Werent there more than 2 ppl in the Runaways?

I agree I like kristen with lighter hair. The trailer actually looks good. I may see this one.

SHUT UP WHO cares WHT U think

Ha, I’m sure the movie’s going to find a way to push Jackie Fox and Lita Ford and the other chick into the background. I’m pretty sure Lita Ford is as famous as Cherie Curie, if not more, in her own right…

Emmy, Jackie and Lita will be in the background because of their own choice. They threw little hissy-fits and temper tantrums and REFUSED to be a part of this movie – so everyone is afraid to give them any lines in the movie or those two children might sue. And “the other chick”, by the way, was the FOUNDER of the band along with Joan, Sandy West – and probably the best female drummer in Rock-N-Roll… EVER.

Clearly you don’t know what “washed out” means. Blond = bland. Dark = exotic. No one ever looks bad with dark hair.

I like the trailer and look forward to it. I love a good Biopic.

  • Stacie

Maybe it’s ok for Dakota to sex it up because we already had our “cherry” popped with that movie Hounddog.

The book was amazing and I’m so glad a movie has been made. Excellent casting with Dakota and Kristen :-)

Scout Taylor Compton (Gilmore Girls) plays Lita Ford. I am surprised that Lita Ford actually hasn’t become a big part in the movie. She’s the other member that became successful on her own right.

I think it’s because the movie is mainly based on Cherie Curie. A lot of it is taken from her autobiography.

  • Michele

I also understand from articles on the making of the movie that Lita Ford did not want to be involved in the movie so the producers minimized her character’s involvement.

    1. The movie looks good, but The Runaways were not the ‘first girls to rock’ – that would have been Fanny.
    2. Fanning looks excellent but Stewart continues to be a horrible actress.

A lot of this movie is bogus hype. The Runaways’ weren’t the “First Girls to Rock” – that would be Heart who were formed 2 years previously, following Joplin. Second they didn’t “Do it on their own” – they were completely controlled, manipulated and abused by their crazy manager Kim Fowley. Third, they were a BAND, not just one singer and one guitarist – where’s Lita Ford?!!

    • dude

Heart was a nice little band with 2 girls and THREE MEN !!! Nancy is a great guitarist but all the other instruments were played by MEN. The Runaways WERE the first band, ever, to be all girls, and playing their all their own instruments.

I was really skeoptical but Dakota Fanning looks like she’d be amazing. Kristen Stewart… maybe I’m just too used to seeing her as Bella can’t-function-without-her-boyfriend Swan in Twilight to imagine her as Joan Jett, the founder of the first all girl rockband/supercool badass. And really? No mention at all of Lita Ford at all? But I still want to see it, just because having Dakota Fanning as Cherie Curie looks like it could really work.

I wish people would do their research before asking stupid questions or making silly remarks. Whoever said Heart was “the first girls to rock” is an idiot and obviously doesn’t pay attenion to all of the members in the band. Janis Joplin is amazing, yes, but she was not part of an all girl band, she was the only girl voice for crying out loud. Yes the movie is called “The Runaways” because it is telling the story of how the band and how it got started, BUT it focuses on cherie and joan for a reason. Not everyone in the band agreed to have anything to do with the movie so their little roles in the band didn’t have any light shine on them. Its a story mainly about cherie and joan and how their short affair was started. It was started by a band being formed called “THE RUNAWAYS”.
