So exciting. But I miss Rome. Oh well, Pillars will be just as fun.
I would be more excited if I got any of those channels. But if they are good, I can always rent the season.
Even if “Pillars” wasn’t based on an amazing novel, I’d be there just because of Ian McShane.
Sorry, but with the recent advances in CGI technology, these types of TV shows are more affordable than ever. And in the case of Game of Thrones, you get action, adventure, romance, sex, intrigue, light and dark, a touch of magic, a few dragons, and storylines for characters of all ages. It’s a great property because the text is so deep, many people can get into some element of the story. And unlike many other stories of the genre, the women are often as kick-butt as the men! They’ll never finish the whole story, but I think Thrones will be a hit.
I’ve been praying for Game of Thrones for ages (I mean seriously, Peter Dinklage? That is too awesome for words). I was going to drop Starz, but i could be persuaded to keep it for Pillars now that I know Rufus Sewell and Ian McShane are in it.
Moment of silence for the late, great Rome.
As much as I loved A Game of Thrones, I really wish HBO had never shown any interest. Martin will never finish the books now. He’s been writing this last book for 6 years now! He’s too into going to various conventions, his other side projects and now overseeing this HBO production. Does anyone seriously think HBO will renew such an obviously expensive production after 1 season? I seriously doubt it.
A Game of Thrones is going to be amazing. Perfect source material, perfect casting, and a perfect home on HBO for all the adult themes it explores should equal one of my favorite TV shows ever!
The “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, George R. R. Martin’s Magnum Opus, is handsdown the best book series i’ve ever read. Hence, it is even has the best book’s i ever read. Putting this masterpiece on the screen will be un almost impossible task. But i will watch it. Cannot wait for the direwolves, The Others, the wildlings, the big castles, the Hound, the dragons and of course the Wall.
Martin is still working on his 5th book in the series “A Dance with Dragons”. After that he’ll have to write two more books: “The Winds of Winter” and “A Dream of Spring”.
Now now now. Rome was plenty historically inaccurate. It got the dress, atmosphere, and era right, but most of the characterizations were completely fictional. That’s why it has such zealous fans. Who does Atia screw next — in every sense of the word!
I’m hoping by now HBO has learned the lesson Rome taught it; that initial viewership numbers are only part of the equation, and that strong profits can be gained on the back end by the sale of DVD’s. Science fiction and fantasy fans are demographically more likely to purchase boxed sets and expensive Blu-Ray releases of well-received shows, which HBO (by their own admission) learned too late when they shortened Rome to two seasons after the BBC pulled its funding for the series. HBO now admits they could easily have completed the series as planned if they had taken into account DVD sales, which were stupendous.
Unless we somehow fall into some sort of tragic time loop, Game of Thrones should not suffer the same sort of kneejerk reaction by the HBO Powers That Be if initial numbers aren’t immediately in the True Blood range. Game of Thrones deserves some foresight; it’s the sort of series that will continue to build fans, year after year, much like Martin’s books did.
cannot wait for the next episode of Pillars Of The Earth to come On Enjoyed very much
