'The Good Wife' returns tonight

good-wifeImage Credit: Jeffrey Neira/CBSThe Good Wife returns tonight after a few weeks off, and I for one am elated: Family drama, political maneuvering, and a decent legal show to boot? Hello, gorgeous.

When we left the Florricks, Peter had just gotten home, Alicia was impressively keeping it together, Kalinda was being the awesomest, Cary was being smarmy but adorable, Will was being less smarmy and more adorable, and Diane was wearing pantsuits. Oooh. Julianna Margulies is terrific on the show, and what makes the performance stand out (other than her scarily perfect eyebrows) is how little Alicia actually speaks; she says plenty with her body language and composure, but as titular star characters go, Alicia’s practically silent. It’s an interesting choice for the show, and definitely one that reflects Alicia’s role in everyone else’s lives: She’s the port in the storm, the calm seriousness amid chaos. And that is so, so much pressure. Maybe she could blow off some steam by finally hooking up with Will? Just a suggestion, Good Wife!

My other suggestion: Bring on some Chicago authenticity. Despite the show’s strengths, it’s the least convincing Chicago setting in years.

Are you enjoying The Good Wife as much as I am, PopWatchers? Do you see Peter and Alicia staying married, or would you rather see her with someone else? Will Matt Czuchry ever not be Logan Huntzberger to you, and can Mary Beth Peil ever not be Grams?

This is a great show–subtle and nuanced with big payoff. Can’t wait to see where the stories are going to lead. Julianna Margulies is riveting–totally deserving of the SAG she got for this.

Oh please, nobody watches this show.

The clincher that made me want to check out the show was BECAUSE of Mary Beth…she will always and forever be “Grams” from “Dawson’s”…such a wonderful actress.

Best new show of the year. Margulies is truly the best actress of the year. She has the character nailed.

My dream episode? Now that Meryl Streep’s daughter has done an ep, how about inviting Mom to do one?
She has already worked well with Christine Baranski. Could not miss.

I don’t want Alicia to get with Will, he is too annoying. I want to see the other junior attonery get with Kalinda!

Too bad Kalinda’s totally a lesbian – have you been watching this show?

      • The Original Nshi

        Ick!!!!!!!

YAY! its back! I love this show and repeatedly tell friends and family they should be watching it. I think its intricate writing and nuanced performances make it the single best new show of the season. I’d like to see Alicia dump Peter and Kalinda hook up with someone as fabulous as she is (is she lesbian? there were some hints but I’m not sure). Diana and Will intriguing. Even the kids lives are interesting.
    Great show!

Excellent show. The stories have been consistently intriguing and Julianna Margulies is wonderful, effortlessly conveying the strength and frailty of her character.

With this back, it will be a one-two punch of well-acted shows (Lost and then The Good Wife). They literally could not be more different, but oh my goodness, are they both shiny and awesome. There isn’t one character I hate in The Good Wife, and random Lost connection: creepy/evil Glenn Childs was creepy/evil Man In Black on Lost! Look at that.

I love Lauren Graham, but I love THE GOOD WIFE much more, and with no dvr, my choice is clear — Julianna Margulies and the wonderful cast of my favorite show on television right now!

I love The Good Wife, even if the lawyers do way more crime-solving than actual courtroom-arguing. But I think Christine Baranski doesn’t get nearly enough props for how much she brings to the show. Much like Alicia–or, geez, any other woman on this show–she’s proudly feminist, smart, and totally unapologetic. OK, the character is written that way, but Baranski makes it all so believable and enjoyable. Hope she gets nommed for Supporting Emmy when the time comes.

The Good Wife is simply terrific. Every cast member is perfect. Juliana Margulies deserves every award she gets. Matt Czuchry is just awesome as Cary. His passive/aggressive character is very authentic. That’s how competitors are in the real world of office politics. We are looking forward to more Cary. Logan Huntzberger was played perfectly as so is Cary Agos. The show is just great..our favorite.

      I wholeheartedly agree with everything.

The Good Wife is a great show. Definitely my favorite right now. Julianna Margulies makes the show for me. She’s amazing. I also think Josh Charles is really underrated in this show. This is one of the few shows where I’m genuinely interested and like every character.

Margaret, it’s florek not florrick ;)

  • jillian

Haha, its true, he will ALWAYS be the rich, entitled but kind of endearing Logan Huntzburger to me. And can she please get with Will? Looks like next week’s episode will get things moving…?
