Instant reaction to tonight's 'Lost': I think I need a hug.

I usually begin these instant reactions with an impassioned plea to not read one word further if you haven’t actually seen tonight’s episode of Lost, but I’m just too drained and rattled to muster the emotion. (BUT SERIOUSLY, DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE EPISODE YET.)“Sunsetdown” was a bloody good show, and it’s currently trying very hard to stab “The Substitute” in its big old heart and supplant it as my fave episode of the season so far. But it was bleak and chilling and yep, bloody, from its portrait of Sayid’s complex heart of darkness (very fine work by Naveen Andrews, as always) to his assassinations of Dogen and Lennon, of whom we now ironically say: Gone too soon! (At least for me.) Call this one: The Apocalypse of Sayid. Or Smokey Armageddon! Or Terry O’Quinn is The Man! I’m currently processing and writing and hope to have a full recap of “Sunset” by sunrise… but first, I’m going to get that hug. The floor is yours!

UPDATE: Doc Jensen’s full recap of Lost’s “Sundown” is live!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Amanda

My reaction exactly!!! I can’t count the number of times I gasped in amazement in the last 5 minutes!!! I agree with Doc… this is close to the top of my list of best episodes this season.

      • Michelle

I thought the episode was called “Sundown”?

      • What?

I enjoyed the episode, but I don’t feel like I learned anything (except that Keamy scares more easily in the Sideways world and that Jin got out of Customs).

      • Ashley G.

This episode left me literally screaming at the tv for answers and saying what? WHAT? every ten minutes!!! I can’t believe Sayid converted to the dark side of the force so the speak, Naveen Andrews acting was amazing, that look he gave flock when they came out of the temple gave me chills…..gotta watch that episode again right now!

      • Ashley G.

and you could totally tell Kate was like WTF guys! but is too afraid to say anything, I can’t wait to see the conversation she and Sawyer will have when Flocks group gets back to wherever the baddies are staying.

      • GROWING PAINS FAN

Sorry, I love LOST but this episode was a ripoff of the plot of Star Wars Episode III (not something they want to brag about). Sayid (Anakin) is offered to be with the one he loves, Nadia (Padme) by working for absolute evil – the man in black (Emperor Palpatine) and his first act is to head to the temple (Jedi Temple) and kill all those inside. Even the scene when Ben tells him to come on, he slowly turns to the camera like Anakin does.

      • Jason

Gee GPF, do you think that might have been intentional?

      • Chase Dunnette (@dmaul53854)

Listed up. It can’t be a ripoff of Episode III if it was BETTER than Episode III. Sayid is the Anakin Skywalker I dreamed for in the prequels. To be believable in both his love and his determination to make it work, no matter what the cost. That is now the SECOND widowed lover (so to speak) that UNLocke has now tried to manipulate. And what do ya know? IT’S WORKING! Such a great episode. And GPF, we are talking about writers who are indeed Star Wars fans who put homages to the series in the show all the time. Might they have wanted a better Anakin as well? They already discussed their dislike of ewoks:)

      • Chase Dunnette (@dmaul53854)

That would be listen up. iPhones can be a b-word to type with sometimes…

      • GROWING PAINS FAN

@Chase Dunette – “It can’t be a ripoff of Episode III if it was BETTER than Episode III” – C’mon man, that statement makes no sense, the quality of a ripoff does not contradict the fact that Ep III came first making anything that copies it a RIPOFF.

      • Dave

The problem with the Episode III comparison is that it was hardly the first anything to key to that plot. Orpheus/Eurydice, Ereshkigal, etc. . . . there are literally hundreds of literary and mythological antecedants, all of which were plumbed by Lucas anyway. Yelling rip-off and comparing to something that swims in references is pretty funny.

      • Dissappointed

HAHA !!! Growing Pains Fan NAILED IT!

They have officially run out of ideas and are padding out the season with filler material like the flashbacks to the fake Losties.

THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!

      • thin

Dave hit the nail on the head. The Lost writers are drawing on much deeper and better sources than the abominable Star Wars episode 3. Please drop it, Growing Pains Fan.

      • crispy

Anyone who cites Star Wars as an original source is stupider than a box of hair! Honestly, did you not go to college? Joseph Campbell’s The Hero With a Thousand Faces covered this ground pretty extensively.

      • Box of Hair

        Hey! Was that an insult?

      • Rock Golf

Last week Lighthouse. This week Sundown. Is LOST getting it’s titles from Canadian content in the 1970′s? Possible remaining titles: Seasons In The Sun? Having My Baby? Guess Who? Last Song?

      • Chase Dunnette (@dmaul53854)

Haha GPF I was definitely trolling you. Because, guess what (SHOCKER): the plot for Episode III is not original in the SLIGHTEST. Isn’t it crazy that you can only tell a story a handful of different ways? The only ones that matter are the ones who do it WELL. The only similarities is that Sayid is killing in the name of someone he loves. SHE IS ALREADY DEAD. So Braveheart is more of a comparison than Episode III. Anakin is trying to prevent Padme from dying. Nadia is already dead, and the promise of a chance to be with her again is giving Sayid all the incentive he needs to go BAMF on some Others.

And this whole running out of ideas crap is such ignorance, people! The dichotomy of Sayid trying to be a good person in both his Flash Sideways and his Island life was awesome. Even heart-tugging if you are emotionally invested in the character. To see someone we know try to be good, and end up where he is now, is heart breaking. Especially since it is all for a woman. So sad. I can’t compare that to Star Wars, because Hayden’s acting was so awful there was nothing to be emotionally invested in.

      • Phil McCracken

I’m with What? What answers did we get last night?

      • Joseph Campbell

Crispy, don’t use my name without my permission. Please, and that is not what I intended. Read into it, you’ll get there.

      • crispy

Joseph Campbell’s been dead for over 20 years, so obviously you’re an impostor. Is that you, Flocke?

      • Brett

You can certainly cite “Star Wars” instead of Joseph Campbell. Just a wild guess, but I’m betting more people are familiar with the plots of “Star Wars” movies than they are with Campbell’s writings. So, the plot and scene from last night may be a rip-off of a rip-off, but it’s still a rip-off of that “Star Wars” scene.

      • Trey

Why is everyone assuming Smokey Lockes is the dark side? This is Lost you know. Claire, Sayeed and Sawyer just may be on the right team? Maybe?

      • JenPisces74

        Box of Hairs – Hilarious

      • dave

It is ridiculous to say that this ripped off anything. If it is the same idea but explored in a different manner, then it is original. The basic idea of good and evil and wanting to be reunited with a dead lover are story lines that go waaayyyy back.

    • Emily

So what’s happened to Jin? Did fake Locke and Claire kill him? Is Sun too late to find her husband? He was nowhere to be seen last night on the island. I will be really upset if he’s dead (although it was pretty awesome having Sayid cross paths with him in the sideways reality).

      • Brenda Barrett

Jin is not dead; he’s with Sawyer (this was implied in Claire’s convo with MIB). I’m sure we’ll see them together next week…

      • thin

Jin’s stuck with the bad guys, and Sun’s running with the good guys. I doubt we’ll see them together next week, but of course you never know…

      • LOL

I apologize if this seems like a silly question, but… why didn’t FLocke and his gang do something with Kate right then and there? Kill her? Convince her? Something?

      • James

The fact that Ben is with the “good guys” almost makes me think they’re the bad guys….Maybe he’ll leave soon? And where is Richard???

      • facue

It reminds me of the set-up about who the O6 would be…everyone was scattered. I like that Jin and Kate are “stuck” with the baddies. Ben? Who knows…but where would that lead Widmore to sign up? Richard is collecting himself after his freakout and will be back to bust some heads with Ilana!

      • Big Walt

Ben has always been on the side of the island and Jacob (well aside from the time when MIB manipulated him into killing Jacob).

      • oliviasorama

Jin can’t be dead since Claire asks flocke why Jin or Sawyer couldn’t go to the temple instead of her.

    • Scary

Is it just me, or does Lost seem more like a horror movie or scary thriller this season?

      • Lisa Simpson

It incorporates a lot of genres, so why not horror? And the monster has been there since the pilot.

      • harley quinn

It depends on the episode. This one was big on action and spooky stuff, but short on heart, and did seem very reminiscent of Steven King’s The Stand. Last week was big on heart and short on spooky stuff, more like, say, Steven King’s The Green Mile. Personally, I prefer Lighthouse to Sundown, but with Lost, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

      • Addison

@harley quinn. Agreed. Lost is definitely heading in the same direction as The Stand. This weeks episode was good, but I do prefer Lighthouse to Sundown. Great Acting in both episodes though.

        p.s.- Still waiting for answers!

      • Jessica

I definitely called The Stand with this episode. Which makes me want to re-read The Stand. Again.

      • facue

1 answer: a war is coming!

      • Spooler

Considering that in early interviews — I’m talking Season 1! — the creators said that THE STAND was a major influence, the similarities in Season 6 are not unintentional. Interestingly enough, when I read that that book had inspired the story all those years ago, I really could not see any big comparisons. I can definitely see them now!

    • Becca

WOW.. I need a hug too. I sat on the couch for a few minutes starting at my TV because my PVR was asking if I wanted to delete the episode now that I was done watching it. I kept it because I feel like I need to watch it again. I think that was a loaded episode… but I just have more questions! Someone asked what happened to Jin – I want to know the same thing. I really want to see Jin and Sun together.. It is about time that happens! I am LOVING Terry O’Quinn. The man deserves every award they give out just for the work he has done so far on this season. I can’t wait to find out what happens next week!

      • Hellen

You’re lucky. My DVR stopped with three or four minutes left. Dang it.

      • Maserda

My DVR didn’t record the first 30 min because my husband was trying to record TBL and South Park as well. So I only saw the last half of the episode. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

      • wednesday

Hellen – - me too!!! I can’t seem to manipulate that timer to get those last minutes to save me.Sayid walked out of the temple, gave the crowd a LOOK, smiled at UnLocke, and they all walked away, Kate at the back of the line looking completely floored.

      • Pam

Hellen – My DVR did the same thing! Blah!

      • Susan

it was odd because it ran until 8:01.

      • taco

same thing happened to me hellen, friggen blows

      • Ellen

You can watch the episode on Hulu.com.

      • acr65

        Maserda,
That’s grounds for divorce, right there!

      • Rach-Ho

You can usually adjust the recording time on a dvr by going to where they list the season passes/series recording – then go to Lost and then look for settings, it will usually give you an option to extend the recording time for Lost episodes :)

    • vic

Wow? If you mean: “Wow, this show used to be good but now it’s tedious”… then I agree with you.

      • mamarose

        Oh jeez, go away.

      • liz

It’s true. I remember when Lost made me think. Now it just makes me think, Are they just trying to write the most confusing nonsensical story that they can?
I mean come one this is the end and they are introducing all of this random stuff. The only reason I am going to keep watching is because I know the finale will be awesome because that is one thing the writers tend to do well.

    • Ceballos

“Apparently, I’m evil” has a VERY good chance of making its way into my everyday conversations.

  • GeeMoney

Weren’t they supposed to answer some questions tonight? Ugh. I’m starting to get the feeling that we are all going to be severely disappointed with the series finale…

    • Skip182

I’m actually getting tired of this complaint. It’s almost guaranteed that people will complain about whatever answers they get, so I’m ok with the major ones getting answered, and leaving the rest alone. Besdies, we’re a whopping 6 episodes in. There’s 12 left folks. Stop whinning.

      • GeeMoney

        10 episodes are left. Duh.

      • Jackie

        10 + 2hr finale = 12. Duh to you.

      • Nita

10 episodes plus the 2 hour finale.

      • vic

Why are you tired of people pointing out the lies of the producers and ABC? I’m tired too. Tired of this ridiculously boring season.

      • Monty

I’m not upset in general about the pacing of the answers, and up until this week I’ve been very satisfied to take what the writers give me. But whoever made the promo this week led us as viewers to believe something BIG was going to be revealed this week.
the promo? it literally was this:
        THIS WEEK ON LOST:
        QUESTIONS! WILL! BE! ANSWERED!

Like i said. I will take answers as they come, but don’t promote answers and then not deliver on it. It reminded me of every time they promoted Niles and Daphne getting together on Frasier…only to have them not get together every week.

Great episode nevertheless, but partially tainted by the promos…

      • crispy

They’ve been running that same promo all season. I just stopped watching the promos.

      • Monty

I know they have been pitching answers all season Crispy (and again, i’ve been fine with the pace they’ve been going at) but this weeks promo was suggested to be huge in reveals. It was huge in terms of story development, but the promo department @ ABC and the show should line up more than they do.

      • Ken

No, it is a valid point. They keep teasing with “NOW is the time for answers, no more questions”. No….you are just trying to hook us, but hey we got it, we’re already hooked. I mean they can always do worse like, say…. take a 2 month hiatus again. but no, the answers are not coming, and yes there is all kinds of likely frivolous crap that I don’t want to deal with. There is no way they can answer all of the unanswered questions in 12 more episodes, so please focus on that if there will be no more afterwards. The answers shouldnt be left to chat/blog speculation. Just spell it out, now is the time!

    • DS9Sisko

There is a difference between the show that Team Darlton produce and ABC’s overheated promo department.

      • t3hdow

Yeah, I think that’s more of what GeeMoney’s complaining about. ABC’s promos are getting annoying.
So are the commercials. One ad even cut in DURING the episode in my area. Now that’s some BS.

      • Skip182

The ABC promos have always been a joke. It almost looks like whoever creates them doesn’t even watch the show. Don’t base anger towards the show because the ABC marketing team fail week-in and week-out.

      • Brenda Barrett

Yes, I wondered if the #@!$@ SONIC commercial interrupted nationally or just in the Nashville area. Argh!

      • Sisco

First off, love the love for Sisko, since, you know, it’s my name. Star Trek fans love me.

Secondly, the Sonic ad in Nashville made me poop a brick. Thank god it happened to other people.

      • Brad

Notice how the V promotions are talking about this last season of Lost. Lame.

      • vic

Team Darlton could have put out a disclaimer letting us know that ABC lied. They didn’t because they are in on it.

      • t3hdow

So that’s (myself included) three pissed off Nashvillians who have another reason to pick a bone with ABC. It was bad enough they messed with the November “V” airing, but now this? Are they trying to make us revolt?

      • LOL

Don’t pick a bone with ABC when a commercial pops in. That stuff happens in my market almost every week with Saturday Night Live. It’s not the network. It’s the fools at your local affliate who can’t program the spots properly.

      • Just watch the show

I agree with this. ABC is promoting the show like a weather man on the news. But the show iself is awesome and delievering loads of answers…slowly building of what they established in previous episodes. You will get your answers by looking at the whole and not individual episodes. That’s good TV to me. Plus…1 to 3 answers can really answer a lot of related questions and I don’t really want them to answer that until the end.

      • t3hdow

        To LOL:
That’s what I meant to say (i.e., the Nashville ABC station, not ABC in general), but I forgot to clarify.

      • DuAnn

Note that the V promo ads say the “Last *televised* season of Lost”. I have wondered if that’s some kind of clue that the battle will go on and on and on, but we just won’t see it.

    • relax

dude, just enjoy an awesome episode, would you rather someone just standing there spewing the answers to all the mysteries?

      • April

Agree with you here. Answers, shmanswers. With the pace of the show I thought the temple showdown was several eps in the future. Thanks for this one Darlton!

      • Harry

But it wasn’t awesome. It sucked.

      • Your mom

        “I’m Harry… robble robble”

      • heej

        “dingers! dingers!”

      • Alex

Thank you. I’m really sick of the “we need answers!” people. The mystery and the WTF moments are more than half the fun of the show.

      • Carrie

i think we will get answers but anybody who watches this show ought to know it’s all gonna be open to debate. and if u think the answers are gonna be like jackass (i know i’m gonna get slammed for that but who cares) talking to kate and going “oh i get it then this happened because blah blah blah” u r definitely watching a different show than me

    • i’m a lady

i’ve become increasingly bored with the show this season. i’ll still watch it to the end, but not with the same interest as i used to have. i think the writing is becoming a little too dumb and forced, which is making the acting hammy.

      • Mary Q. Contrary

Whaaaaat? You’re crazy. It’s terrific, satisfying, emotional, crazy. Everything you could ever want in a final season. It’s epic, and it’s only gaining momentum. Picture it as a roller coaster. We’re not even halfway through the season yet, which is when we’ll hit a peak, or an epic event (maybe Locke’s wedding), and then it will be a blisteringly-paced final half, answering questions left and right and basically cementing Lost’s rightful title as The Best Serial Drama Of All Time.

      • deeannek

Really? I was on the edge of my seat tonight and I was literally screaming at the tv when Sayid killed Dogen. I guess I am not as much into answers as I am into good storytelling and this is good storytelling. I am along for the ride til the end and I will really miss Lost when its over.

      • cancan

I really don’t want to agree with you, but I have to. The directing just seems off or something. Kate popping out of the jungle, meeting up with Sayid just seemed out of place.
This is why I always like Jack centric episodes. There not the most mythology filled episodes, but there always really well done.

        Loved Sayid in Sundown though.

      • Harry

I’m with you lady. It’s BOOOORING!

      • Zoey

…There is something wrong with you. And you Harry. This episode was great. Kate did seem to pop out of nowhere (kind of like last week…I’m beginning to think she should just die already. She doesn’t fit anywhere.), but the rest was great. When Ben came for Sayid, Sayid had the freakiest smile EVER. I would’ve done exactly what Ben did and ran my ass the hell out of there. Oh, Sayid, what a dark path you walk.

      • Not Lost

Mary, The best dramatic show of all time was Six Feet Under. By far.
Lost was in the running but this season has been so underwhelming it has taken diminished the rest of the series.

      • JenPisces74

I loved this episode, I even checked out the director’s imdb – and who needs answers – I will literally die a little inside when this show ends, but the mystery is the draw – we are on the edge of our seats every week – what other show can do that? The shows hour goes by in like 10 minutes! For the whiners – turn off the tv if you don’t like it – this show has made tv history – GO LOST!

    • Eggplant Girl

Me too. Except I had that sinking feeling at the end of the season premiere. “The Substitute” renewed my faith, but then “Lighthouse” and “Sundown” shot it down again. I am soooo disappointed in this season so far.

      • jims

go watch CSI… that last 15 minutes was probably the best 15 minute stand of the series… it was question-answering, exciting, violent, touching yet haunting… and all sorts of awesome

      • Mary Q. Contrary

Surely you’ve got to be joking. We found out that MIB is definitely evil, Sayid crosses over to the dark side, Kate is following along, completely clueless. The lines have basically been drawn, and we’re about to witness the most epic chess battle of all time. Get it right, get it tight.

      • Vincent

Love the comment here jims. “Go watch CSI. . .” Get a load of this guy, huh!

      • jims

yes, it was a smartass comment, but really? seriously… if you’re still watching the show at this point and you thought this ep is a letdown, you are probably one of those dopes that like to hate on shows that aren’t on CBS

      • David

Wort. Season. Yet. Even the POD episodes kicked this season’s ar$sse.

      • harley quinn

To each his own. I liked Lighthouse better than Sundown, and Sundown better than The Substitute. But overall, this season rocks.

      • bones

The season is not great. They just killed off two new characters that they spent the first three episodes building. Waste of time. Lost is at its best when it is character driven. Has become a soap opera.

      • crispy

Oh, please. Dogen and Lennon were minor characters at best! Sundown was a fantastic character driven arch for Sayid. I’m sorry you missed that.

      • amyf

What was the point of bringing back Keamy? I can’t imagine that anyone was clamoring to see him…

      • Not Lost

        I’m with you.

    • Michelle

      I agree.

    • crispy

No answers? Are you nuts?! They gave us a HUGE answer… the smoke monster can only take the form of someone who has died. While most of us already figured that, it was great to get real confirmation from the show.

      • Lisa Simpson

We also got a look at what the sickness/infection really entails and how it unfolds. And we found out that Dogen is a recent arrival to the Island.

      • Laura

That, and we found out that “Dogen was the only thing keeping HIM out”?!?!? Did Jacob imbue Dogen with some kind of special powers? Well, obviously, Jacob didn’t make Dogen smart, because if he hadn’t tortured and kept trying to kill Sayid, than Sayid wouldn’t have gone evil and wanted to kill Dogen. DUH.

      • Terry

Wow. And that took 6 episodes to drag out. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

      • Henry

They give us peanuts, and you think that is a good episode?

I am calling it: the last season of LOST both sucks and blows.

Every episode just gets that more depressing and sprawled out.

      • crispy

I sorta pity the people like Henry who don’t realize how great this season is. Oh well. Your loss.

      • Big Walt

Would you say you pity the fool?

      • facue

I think it’s great that are answers are teasers and more questions. They can’t just have Hurley and Miles sit down every episode and hash it out. The producers want us to think for ourselves and come to our own conclussions. What answers do you want!? A war is coming, between good and evil. My gut says good will win, but evil wont go away. Everything they want to tell us they will, everything the don’t will be up to us as LOST followers to interpret.

      • facue

wow, I had a lot of typos…boo! I need my coffee!

      • taco

it also seems to me that jacob needs there to be life on the island, and needs all those people to stay… and smokey i guess can leave the island once there is no life left on the island? smokey keeps saying, jacob is dead, you CAN all leave now.

    • Meredith

It’s the journey, man…just enjoy the ride.

      • Dissappointed

Can’t enjoy it because this season sucks.

      • mamarose

Then seriously, just go away and stop torturing yourself watching!

      • Big Walt

Either have faith that they’ll pull it together or stop watching. Whining about the fact that they’re not making the show to your satisfaction will get you nowhere.

      • Shileeta Buffet

OMG Meredith, right on! Just sit back and enjoy the show, folks, you dont have to get answers every epi. And by the way, the scenes with the roaring Smoke were SCA-RY for TV. And yes, I thought Keamy was kind of a wuss. Where was Desmond, the actor’s name was in the credits.

It’s called a ‘teaser’ for a reason. And the Lost producers teased and tortured me last night. I was looking for answers, but left with more questions and that’s the point of the show. Well played LOST producers…well played.

      • Big Walt

I kind of felt like Sayid was doing what I’d like to do to the Others. “You’re not going to give me any real answers or tell me what the F is going on? You know what? Screw you you’re dead.”

Although it was way too easy for him to kill Dogan I thought.

      • crispy

Dogen gave up. He realized that with Jacob dead, he was a goner, and he spent his last few moments clutching the baseball and thinking of his son.

    • cf

I just can’t imagine what’s left to happen in 10 episodes plus finale. It just doesn’t feel like the same Lost.

      • cf

p.s. – Terry O’Quinn and Naveen Andrews were amazing. Bravo.

    • Lola

I think people need to realize that they are not going to get all the answers they’re looking for. Just enjoy the journey.

      • Ken

Sorry, that is stupid. I don’t need a book of answers, but leaving a great TV series to online chats and speculation is a pretty crappy way to watch the series if it ends up being the ONLY way.

    • DG

Have you ever thought that maybe this episode did give us a lot of answers, but they just don’t make sense to us yet? Maybe the writers want us to reflect back on this episode as the rest of the season unfolds. In typical Lost fashion, there is more here then meets the eye.

  • neverbeeneasy

    holy jesbusss

    • lostaddict

gosh…i need a hug too! that was the most emotionally draining episode series to date!

      • gigi

So true! Not only do I need a hug…I slept with the light on! FLocke, Crazy Claire, and Evil Sayid are scary! I love it!!!

      • Big Walt

I still don’t think there’s really any “infection”. I think that’s just Sayid’s nature. To me the infection is just MIB playing on people’s weaknesses.

How much did he sound like the devil making that offer to Sayid?

      • kattykat246

Oh my gosh- Big Walt.. I totally agree with you! I immediately knew MIB was evil once he offered the deal to Sayid! I’d been questioning it the past few weeks, but that just confirmed it for me.

      • Liz

Although according to Dogan, Jacob offered him the same deal. “I’ll save/bring back your son but only if you agree to give up your life here and come to a uncharted island to serve me.” Talk about making a deal with the devil!

  • Ne Oublie

I mean what can I say? Awesome episode!

  • Kate

Has anyone ever heard a more creepy version of “Catch A Falling Star” than at the end of this episode?!

    • Skip182

Nope. Maybe not a creepier version of any song ever. Very good episode.

    • CJL2124

      and how about claire?

      • Mike

Somebody help me with one thing. Claire said that if she found out that Kate took Aaron, she’d kill her. Kate admitted it and there wasn’t even a cat fight once Claire got out of the hole!

      • Big Walt

I’m assuming she and MIB have a plan.

      • Big Walt

Although if she thinks Aaron’s in the Temple of Doom why didn’t she try to find him?

      • KaterHater

And speaking of Claire: I thought that MIB promised her that she’d get Aaron back? And that Aaron was in the Temple? So when Aaron isn’t there, why isn’t Claire outraged? She’s shown leaving the Temple all smiling with Sayid, joining MIB’s new “army”. I don’t get it…

    • Michelle

That was absolutely creepy! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to that song the same way again.

    • dreampipe

“Catch a falling star” how many ‘falling stars’ is the Lockester gonna catch? Who’s next? I guess we better be on the lookout for a ‘rainy day’ episode soon. Wonder what’ll happen then!?! The Lockester is leading another band of Others again… and he’s collecting ‘pieces.’ I can’t wait to see where he places them on Chessboard-Island. While the Alices play chess, Miles is playing Solitaire… interesting. Sad to see Lennon and Dogen go… I thought that after their epic roll-and-tumble in the beginning of the episode, Sayid took care of Dogen pretty easily the second time around in the dirty hot tub. Of course, the darkness had reached his heart by that point most certainly. Maybe the Force was stronger with him at that point?

      • amj

Well I don’t think Dogen believed he would be evil so he had let his guard down for sure.

      • Alicia

I thought it was a perfect time in the season to kill Dogen and Lennon. They are not bad characters but they are not the major characters we have invested so much energy in…

        Brilliant episode. Or perhaps Brillig.

  • JMC

    uh, dude, it’s SUNDOWN. lol

    • Michelle

      thank you!

    • Zoey

Yes, exactly! S-U-N-D-O-W-N. C’mon, Doc, get it right!

      • Your mom

You try writing under his deadlines.

      • Mary Q. Contrary

Exactly, Your mom! They enjoy his recaps, and yet they never seem to realize this guy is writing these 6-8 page recaps in 1 night, and that these little snippets he has to throw on here before he finishes his actual recap. We’re not getting the short end of the stick here, guys, and a little mistake here and there only proves that Jensen is human, and not the Lost-obsessed cyborg I originally thought him to be.

      • Not Lost

Mary, if you think “Doc” doesn’t have a team of researchers and writers behind him then I can say without any doubt that you, madam, are indeed LOST.

  • lulu

    I miss the polar bear

    • JenR

      Haha!

    • cf

ditto. where do the others, and everything we learned about them, fit in here?

  • Sindelar

Sensational episode. Hit on all levels and fired on all cylinders.

  • matt T-A

hey doc, the ep was named “Sundown”, not “Sunrise”. Just thought id let ya know, i look forward to the recap :)

    • Elissa

Um, Doc said “Sunset”…so I guess it’s an honest mistake. :)

    • Nancy

Hey give him a break. The man needs a hug!! Wicked episode.

  • T

Amazing! I was so disappointed when it ended…I need my Lost all at once! I can’t handle the suspense!

  • lisa

How hot was Sayid walking out of the temple after the massacre? Love him even more if he is now part of the “Black Badass Gang”!

    • Mother Nature

That cracked me up. You know what an awesome actor Naveen Andrews is when someone says, “how hot was he looking after that massacre?” Too funny.

    • jims

that’s funny…. i was thinking more “how can i cheer against someone so badass?”

    • BA

Sayid has ALWAYS been my favorite. He was SMOKIN’ in this episode. Total BA (Which is also my nickname LOL). But he really was a BA!

      • deeannek

I agree. I was shocked by Sayid killing Dogen and Lennon but damn did he look good.

    • Kris10

Sayid’s always been my favorite too, and now I am scared for everyone on the “good” side, because, well… Sayid kicks ass.

      • Big Walt

Sawyer’s totally going to kill Sayid. He’ll finally get his revenge for being tortured by him so long ago. Oh and Sawyer’s just pretending to be bad.

      • Kris10

Sawyer’s not a better fighter than Sayid, but… hopefully quicker with a gun! (I agree with the theory that Sawyer isn’t playing for any other team but his own.)

    • bamabunny

I believe Sayid has finally decided to embrace the obvious…he’s a natural-born killer. He IS evil. He’s denied it all his life, trying to be “a good man,” as he told Dogen. But now he’s accepting his intrinsic nature; Ben saw it in his eyes when he told Sayid there was still time and Sayid said no, there wasn’t. Ben walked away because he knew Sayid had embraced the darkness and was lost for good.

      • bamabunny

Just to continue my other thoughts on this…Jacob believes everyone can “change,” right? Isn’t that why he brings them to the island? So when Dogen said everyone falls on one side of the line or the other (good or evil), isn’t that a Man-in-Black-ism? That one CAN’T change?

      • Brett

A natural born killer – wait, is Woody Harrelson joining the cast?

  • matt T-A

i meant, “Sundown” instead of “Sunset”, lol i made a mistake in trying to fix your mistake….. nice

  • CJL2124

HHoly cow, that episode was amazing and extremely epic. That’s all I can say right now.

  • Alegna

    Say it ain’t so Sayid!

  • Ne Oublie

The eyes, the lies, the action, the acting-this episode had it all

    • NYTeach

Except Sawyer, but I can live with that.

      • Lisa

Not me! I missed Sawyer…a lot!

      • Christina

An episode without Sawyer AND Jack just isn’t the saaaaamee. It’s worrying me that Sawyer’s been so MIA

    • Dissappointed

      Except anything interesting.

      • GaateKeeper

Why are people who think Lost is boring responding to this blog. Oh, I get it. They’ll persuade the fans who haven’t missed an episode to stop watching. Soooo Clever.
