Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelor' finale and After the Final Rose

It’s hard to believe this season is over. Maybe it’s because there have been a few things that have distracted our attention this time around, but it really seems like this season has flown by. I’m glad you all got a chance to be introduced to Jake’s family. I think once you see them and how they interact as a family it’s easy to see why Jake is the way he is. They are all such good communicators and you can see where Jake has gotten his skills. His parents fell in love with Tenley the moment she walked in the door. That’s not hard to believe as everybody who has met Tenley this season loves her and has nothing but good things to say about her. Jake’s family quickly put her in front and I honestly don’t think they gave Vienna much of a chance to succeed at first. The fact that Vienna was able to sway their opinion and convince them otherwise was really impressive. It’s actually ironic that what happened to Vienna in the house with the girls, happened again with Jake’s family. The only difference is that Vienna was able to make it right with Jake’s family.

This show has given me the opportunity to go to some pretty special and beautiful places. The island of Saint Lucia is high on that list. The people and the beauty of the island are just about as good as it gets. With that said, several of the crew kept trying to get me to go to those sulphur springs that Jake and Vienna went to. I know it looked romantic on TV, but that’s only because you couldn’t smell it. Everybody who came back from the sulphur springs said it was cool, but the sulphuric odor smelled like rotten eggs and it pretty much ruined whatever you were wearing. Needless to say, I passed. The crew gave me a bottle of the mud as a gift.

We spent the final week of our trip at the Jalousie resort. It sits in this beautiful cove nestled between the two pitons (those big mountains you see in all the shots). Between the scenery, the beach, the people, the food, and, of course, the rum, the Jalousie resort is easily one of the best we visited over the eight years we’ve been doing this show.

In my opinion, the last chance dates were very telling of Jake’s final decision. You could tell how easy it was between Jake and Vienna. You can also clearly see that he was always defending her and got very defensive when anybody didn’t see what he saw in her. Tenley is a wonderful woman and Jake did love her, but not nearly in the same way he loves Vienna. Even Tenley admitted on the AFR special that watching the show she too sees that what Jake has with Vienna is different than what they shared.

The proposal site was at a resort called Jade Mountain. This is the place where you saw Jake spending his final day and picking out his ring. We had to get to this site by water which meant bringing in the women by chopper (another Bachelor first). One thing that wasn’t shown was the choppers pulling right over my head and landing about twenty yards away from me. I was really hoping we had good pilots flying for us.

Walking Tenley over to meet Jake was tough. She was nervous and I knew she was very much in love with Jake. I’ve always been impressed by Tenley. But the way she handled herself that day, the poise she showed under that pressure was astounding. Having the grace to actually thank Jake for showing her how to love again is remarkable. Tenley is another person who has left this show with a new clear understanding of who they truly are and what they want. More importantly, I think she now knows what she deserves in return and that’s a big step for her.

Vienna got out of the helicopter shaking like a leaf. She was so nervous she could barely breathe. You could tell she had completely fallen in love with Jake and felt incredibly vulnerable. I have to say that bit where he gave her back that promise ring was a little cruel and it had her going but he quickly redeemed himself. It was easily one of the most beautiful proposals we’ve ever had on the show. I realize Jake’s choice and his proposal to Vienna surprised some of you and it’s even been called controversial. While I respect all of your opinions there is one thing I don’t get. How could anybody possibly have a problem with two people falling in love with one another and finding happiness together? I’m not saying you can’t be surprised or even think that one of the other women might have been better but now that he’s made his final decision and you see they are together and very much in love, how can you fault that? I can’t imagine telling anybody they’re an idiot for falling in love and finding happiness. How can that be wrong? I’ve already been asked if I think it will last. The answer is “I don’t know,” and to pretend that I do would be ignorant as well as presumptuous. What I do know is that Jake is a good and decent man and Vienna is a good woman. They love each other very much and are committed to making this work. I wish them the best in life and love and hope to see them walk down the aisle. I hope you will all wish them the same.

For some reason lately it’s become easy and somewhat in vogue to take shots at people and try to tear them down. I know happiness doesn’t sell magazines and it doesn’t make for sexy headlines but try to keep a little perspective. Congrats to Jake and Vienna, a happy couple who will now begin their life together.

A couple notes before I let you go this season. I loved having Jeffrey Osborne on the show to sing “On the Wings of Love.” The guy was awesome and still sounds amazing. Also, I was extremely excited to announce Ali as our next Bachelorette. She is a strong woman and will give the next group of guys a run for their money for sure.

Finally, next Monday night please be sure to tune in to see Jason and Molly’s wedding. This is going to be a wonderful event that will bring together many of your favorite former bachelors and bachelorettes. I was very pleased to be a part of their special day. Then, on Monday, March 15th I hope you’ll tune in to ABC to watch the two-hour 20/20 special that will take you behind-the-scenes of the Bachelor franchise like never before. While you have your calendar out, I also hope you’ll join me on the Oscar red carpet live from the Kodak Theatre this Sunday on TV Guide Network. Okay, I think that’s it!  From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank our entire crew. On behalf of that crew, thank you so much for your support and for tuning in each week. Goodbye for now. I hope to see you this spring for the next season of The Bachelorette and see ya next season with my blogs right here on EW.com.

Thank you so much for blogging Chris. I sincerely hope that you will blog Ali’s season. Your blogs are part of the whole experience for me. I’m happy for Jake and Vienna, and as always I believe in love and I hope they do marry and have a wonderful life together. As for Ali as the Bachelorette, I’m not thrilled but I’m addicted to the show so see you in May! LOL

    • Lynn

I agree with you Chris about respecting Jake’s choice, but of course viewers are going to form their own opinions of the women and be dissapointed in Jake for making the wrong choice. In the beginning of the show, Jake admitted that he did not always have the best judgement in his choice in women. He told Tenley’s father that it had to go beyond a physical connection. I feel he has the right intentions, but made the wrong desision based on physical attraction, not on an emotional/intellectual connection. Vienna came across as immature, confrontational, and unintellegent. This is not an assumption viewers made solely on her inability to get along with the other women, but from watching her behaviors and hearing her statements. I think it is unfair of you to scold readers who think Jake made the wrong choice. Jake demonstrated to us viewers that he does indeed have poor judgement when it comes to women, and also demonstrated that his actions go against what he knows is right (not choosing someone based on physical attraction alone). They both chose to be on the show and should not be upset with scrutiny from viewers. Hey, I hope I am wrong, but I doubt they will last more than a year.

      • snooks

But who are you to say it was the “wrong” choice…remember it was not yours to make.

      • Cate

Jake was looking for something beyond a physical connection. Huh. Well, once his physical connection with Vienna whom he considers ‘hot’ wears off – he’ll be left with a 23-year old attention craving, immature girl.

      • choxzy

Irony: accusing someone of being “unintellegent”. LOL

      • Juneau

Totally agree with this. Jake doesn’t seem to understand the characteristics you look for in a spouse. I really thought he’d be the Bachelor who finally “got it” and was ready for marriage. His choices this season tell me I was wrong. Heat and chemistry is great, but it’s not what makes a marriage last. Vienna was always talking in terms of fantasy and dreams and what Jake can do for her. She is not nearly as articulate as he is and she’s very immature. At 23 she doesn’t know the first thing about what it takes to make a marriage last a lifetime. You don’t fall in love in a couple of months in a manufactured environment. You are infatuated – big difference. To say they are “deeply in love” is a crock. When real life hits, infatuation isn’t enough to keep a couple together. DeAnna and Jesse claimed the same thing and looked very happy during their ATFR show and looked what happened there.

      • Pappy

and then to make this comment is awesome:
For some reason lately it’s become easy and somewhat in vogue to take shots at people and try to tear them down.

Really, like you did to roz? CH, you are a ballbag…

Jake chose based on physical connection…something he said he wasn’t going to to, yet he did anyway…good luck with that jake…i give it 5 months tops…

      • Meghan

Thanks for all the inside info this season Chris. I just feel it’s NOT ironic that what happened to Vienna in the house with girls also happened with Jake’s parents. How is it ironic or a coincidence when everyone who interacts with Vienna sees her as immature and aggressive? On the off chance that she’s not REALLY like that – she gives everyone the impression that she is. I just can’t figure out why Jake would want to marry a girl that rubs everyone the wrong way. Especially when that is what Wes did to all the bachelors during Jillian’s season.

      • spikenalabama

Hear-Hear…Couldn’t have said it better myself.

      • Angel

“But who are you to say it was the “wrong” choice….”

Well we are the people that watch the Bachelor. They, all the contestants, invite it by virtue of being on the show. No one here is claiming that it was their decision to make; they are rather claiming their right to have an opinion.

If Jake, Vienna or even Tenley for that matter can’t take it then they never should have put it on TV for every Tom, Dick and Harry to watch.

      • Lynn

As an adult, I can say it was the wrong choice.

      • Viennafan

you think Vienna was unintelligent? She was the only one who had any personality! She has wit, which is more than I can say for the other women. Congrats to Jake and Vienna! I’m only bummed that Vienna won’t be the next Bachelorette…she would have been fun to watch.

      • Mommy

Chris Cheated on his wife! He must have a lot of temptation on the set! He did a trio-some with Mike Fleiss.

      • Mark

Of course it was the wrong choice. Vienna is a gold digger who stole money from her ex-husband while he was stationed in Iraq. I will NEVER watch the show again.

      • Lynn

I think Vienna was a great choice and I think that the “heat” they feel together will keep the flame going. Tenley didn’t seem to be that “bright”. Sort of an “I’ll do anything you want me to”, kind of a girl, whereas, Vienne will give Jake a little more of a “challenge”, which keeps a relationship new and alive.

      • Bev C

If Jake chose Vienna for superficial reasons, think about this…there were several drop-dead gorgeous women he could chose from. Vienna is beautiful, but she certainly was not the “most” beautiful. There were some “smokin” bodies on that show. She was the “complete package” he was looking for. So she’s a little immature, he knows that but I’m sure he is as well and they can grow together.

      • Katharine

How dare you, “Mommy,” (below) state Chris cheated on his wife! How old are you 6! Where are you facts to support that – Rozalyn – ha that’s a joke!

      • Katharine

        …sorry “Mommy” (above), not ‘(below)’

    • P

These comments are the WORSE ever!! I gave up reading after page 3—what a bunch of junior high comments. How can anyone say such ugly things and pass judgement on people they DONT know??? Do you say ugly things and holler at the books you READ? Makes about as much sense. Oh , that’s right–you don’t read!!! Just watch and think Reality contesants are REAL???

      • Em

And in what grade, exactly, do we learn the difference between ‘worse’ and ‘worst?’

      • Easth

        That’s funny..worse and worst…

      • Mrs. M

P, I think you just had some help proving your point!

      • marceebee

Excuse me, aren’t you passing judgement on people YOU don’t know? You are making an awfully lot of assumptions about people, maybe you should just chill out for a while instead of hurling insults. Or is this your “anger management” therapy?

      • meetsinglefiremen

        i love jake!

    • Lindsay

I’m happy for Jake and Vienna too. As my mother always says – well, that takes care of two of them. Ha!

      • churchsinglesparty

They need to find some real Christians!

    • Kristi

Ditto! :) I love the blogs! Keep it up CH!

    • bb

i just want to say that i absolutley love Tenley and I hope the best for her. As great as it would have been having her as the next bachelorette, I don’t think she is fit for that type of setting and I know she will do well on her own. I also agree with a previous post that said that Tenley should have been on DWTS, she would have been perfect for that… I hope nothing but wonderful things for a sincere, beautiful, wonderful lady!

    • Anyone Notice…

Vienna always talked about being a “daddy’s girl” and how her dad would never let anything bad happen to her…..but she never talked about her mom. She said she didn’t want to disappoint her dad, NOT her parents. On the home visit, she basically ignored her mom and focused just on her dad. Does she have a bad relationship with her mom? Makes you wonder if she can’t get along with any women, her own family members included. So what kind of relationship will she really have with Jake’s mom?

      • TT44

That wasn’t her real mom I don’t think. Supposedly mom is as trash-tastic as she is. And Vienna won’t have to worry about a relationship with Jake’s mom, they’ll be done by July 4th!

      • Katharine

I’m not sure how Vienna is going to live so far away from ‘daddy’ when they were so upset being away from eachother while she was filming the show. I think once Jake returns to flying/work Vienna will feel really alone, like no other ‘winner’ from the bachelor.

  • confused

How is Tenley not the next Bachelorette?! Nothing against Ali, but Tenley is the sweetest, most genuine and loving and incredible woman I have ever seen on your show. Yes, I’m a guy who watches the Bachelor. I’m completely comfortable admitting it. And, as a guy, I think Tenley deserves to find the man of her dreams. It seems Jake made the right choice for him, but I can’t help feeling that Jake was a fool for not choosing Tenley. But now it should be her turn. I was so hoping to see her find the love she deserves next season. I’m disappointed, ABC. She should have been your next Bachelorette.

    • CJ

I figure someone at the top has a crush on Ali, so we’re screwed for next season. Tenley would have been the perfect choice.

      • Mike

If you watch the “On the Wings of Love” premiere again, Ali was the first woman they showed. They filmed her in San Francisco; she just HAPPENED to be wearing the same outfit as on her SF date with Jake, and she just HAPPENED to visit the same flower shop. They planned Ali-as-Bachelorette early on…which makes me wonder why they made her look like such a bitch for most of the show.

      • Sunflower

Yeah I agree. I’m not watching Ali as the new bachelorette. She’ll be too boring and fake.

      • booboo

Or, they just used the same footage for Ali as bachelorette…

(not being confrontational, just offering a “what if”)

I agree on Ali being fake though.

      • Peg

Sorry, but an entire season of Tenley’s annoying voice would have been way too much to tollerate. Plus, as much as I despise Vienna she made an excellent point last night – Tenley is a complete follower and she isn’t one to make choices (or at least that is how she came across on the show). Ali knows what she wants and is able to live her life on her own terms so I am thrilled she’s the next Bachlorette. By the time her show starts I am sure Jake & Vienna will be about to split so maybe Jake can come back and they can try over. And to think – gay people can’t get married yet straight people can pop the question and get married for the sake of a TV show. Truly sad.

    • WhiteLady

I agree. Either Tenley or Gia are far more deserving than The Queen of Bitch Mountain of the opportunity “The Bachelorette” gives to find true love.

      • Jane

I’m so happy Gia and Tenley escaped Jake! I think they are the sweetest girls the series has ever seen and I wish them both their own happy ending!

      • queue55

@ Jane, ITA! And how does Ali have to leave Jake for her job but now it’s okay for her to blow it off for her own “journey” as the Bachelorette?! bleh!

      • Rose Snatcher

Yeah but QoBM will be entertaining and I think that is what the show wants, drama and Tenley and Gia are too nice.

      • marceebee

@ Rose Snatcher – Don’t worry, I’m sure they will find a Swamp Donkey or two to keep you entertained.

    • Karen

Much as I hate to admit it, “Reality Steve” best answered your question when it was first leaked that Ali would be the next Bachelorette: “There’s no way Tenley would make out with 10-15 guys, which is something this show needs to sell itself. Your “Bachelorette” kinda needs to be a little open to stuff like that and Tenley just doesn’t fit that mold.” Although Tenley would be the initial obvious choice, RS is right… Jake was the first and only man that Tenley kissed since her ex, so there’s no way she would play the kissing game with so many guys!

      • KC

Tenley most likely turned them down. What a total sweetheart she is, I’m glad she isn’t going to be ruined by them turning her into the bachelorette.

      • Sunflower

I agree. Tenley would not be able to handle all the makingout with all the different guys, but Ali will!!! LOL!!!!

      • Amanda

Tenley also seemed like she hadn’t quite moved on from Jake, so twenty-five guys would have been too much for her to handle so soon. If you’ve truly had your heart broken you should probably sit out six months or so before you do something as emotionally intense as the bachelorette.

      • Kay Pynch

Definitely not Tenley’s style. She could not take it. I enjoy the Batcherlor more than the Batchelorette but do like Ali,as I have a grandaughter just like her, only15! K

    • Debbie

My husband (yes, my husband!) and I totally agree with you, KC. As it got closer and closer to the end, although I had read the spoilers and knew that Jake picked Vienna in the end, we really felt that his chemistry with her was more physical, and it remains to be seen if she’s got enough maturity to commit once they are in a more normal setting. I was SO hoping to see Tenley become the next Bachelorette. Think I may skip the Ali season.

      • Agreed

With you on that, skipping the next season.

      • LK

I agree with you too, Debbie…his relationship with Vienna was more physical and that will get a guy every time…lol…(Sorry men, but it’s true)they forget that after awhile it fades away and they are sometimes left with something they may not necessarily have anything else in common with!

      • Gwen

We have to remember the show films in just 6 weeks – so of course his choice is based on physical connection. Jake even said he doesn’t have the best judgment in selecting women. Once the physical connection fades he’s going to realize he picked a 23 yr old topless model to be his wife and mother of his children. Oooh, that just sounds bad.

      • beth

I wish he understood that all that “heat” is going to dissipate after a while lol….he is going to be left with a really immature 23 year old, with fake hair and boobs and not much to talk about, they have never had one intelligent conversation. They never ever once talked about faith either. They have nothing in common. I can’t imagine her trying to raise kids because she is so selfish and kidlike herself. Can you imagine her getting up in the middle of the night to tend to a sick child? I can’t! I just hope Jake will be able to realize all this before it’s too late.

    • Ambient Lite

Said it before, I’ll say it again: Tenley would NOT have been ready for something like that. She hopped right from her divorce to this show. She is young and desperately needs to take some time to be alone, grow, and mature. She is sweet, and well-spoken, but emotionally immature. This was abundantly clear as she was repeatedly asking Jake ‘why, what was missing’. Girl, if he doesn’t want to be with you, that’s reason enough.

      • PetWar1

Give her a break ! She was just lookin for answers.

      • Joycie

I agree..Why ask the question again and again? Not smart.. she should have known as a grown woman that he just did not want to tell her. She has no sex appeal, let’s face it and the voice is horrible, I had to turn her off during the convesation with his mom.. so she’s sweet, more like saccharine, but that’s no reason to marry the girl!

    • Louanne

Tenley is not ready to get married. She is still in too much pain from her previous marriage. I also think she’s the type of person to hash everything to death– she was sweet but seemed like a ‘clingy’ type of girl.

    • Marissa

I think Tenley wouldn’t be open to it because of her values. Although I do agree that she’s one of the sweetest girls and would make a great bachelorette, she has a lot of values as far as being with only one man, and having kissed only one man in her life, she might find it difficult to date more than one, even if she did find her husband out of it

    • LK

I completely agree with you!! I was really hoping that Tenley would end up being the next bachelorette….but maybe it’s a little too soon for her broken heart! I think she is still hurting inside and I don’t blame her! I DO hope that she is the next bachelorette they choose after Ali, though!!
oh and p.s.-You shouldn’t be ashamed that you are a guy and watch The Bachelor…so what?? If you enjoy it, who cares??

    • carla

tenley would never make out with 10 guys in one night so she could never be the bachelorette.

    • Summer

I completely agree with you, LK.. Tenley deserves a great person.. I think she is too nice and perfect for the show. Ali brought more drama as you saw how she reacted to Vienna throughout the season. Nice people always finish last!

    • Sara

I’m sorry, Tenley is too annoying. I agree with Vienna, she’s really super sweet, but would be really super annoying to watch for 2 hours a week. She’s just too…idk…happy and nice and girl get some balls or something! IDK what it is! ARGH

    • K

WHY, WHY, WHY can’t there be someone NEW?! I did not want any of these girls to return & be the bachelorette!!!!
Why do we constantly get bombarded with “If you or someone you know wants to apply to be the next Bach” if they are never going to bring in someone new?!
These season was the most stupid so far. I watch it for entertainment value only & it wasn’t even that. I didn’t even care that I knew the final outcome.

I sincerely ask that they quit recycling and start fresh.

      • Diggity

I agree- get someone new. We haven’t had anyone new since Brad.

But seriously- are you really bombarded with “next bach” ads? I maybe see 1 a week- during the show- and thats only if i forget to FF.

    • the bridge

If you’ll notice, both the bachelor and bachelorette series require extensive voice-over narration by the star. This is why Ali is a better choice. She discusses her feelings in a way that involves admitting mistakes, admitting when she is unkind, and sometimes laughing at herself. That is more interesting to watch than the beautiful, sweet but unaware Tenley. Both are nice & beautiful women. Ali is better as the next Bachelorette.

      • Jordan

On the same vain as communication…noone realized when Jake’s family asked what did she like about Jake she could not use any adjective that described him “internally”… a “great guy’ means nothing…she is unable to communicate what she likes because she does not know even herself…if one is that immature, they are certainly not very ready for a life-long, marriage versus Tenly who clearly used examples and other descriptive adjectives…

Chris, people speak negatively about Vienna even though they are in love because the masses have seen or experienced this eventual “hell” before and don’t want it to happen to others (50% plus of marriages end up in divorce). 80% of the millions of viewers can’t be wrong, can they?

    • Naya

Tenley is a dude, that’s why she’s not the next bachelorette. If she were as interesting as she were sweet, she would be engaged to Jake right now. Ali seems to have a little more depth to her and will make an interesting bachelorette. Looking forward to it.

      • Naya

I meant Tenley is a “dud”–not dude. How funny.

      • jodi

ALi is as phony as they come. She turned into the mean girl of the house accusing Vienna of being immature are you kidding me!!! She is the winer of the century-totally fake. SHe has high maintenance written all over her. I’ll pass on this season! Bleh!

      • Katharine

Remember, Ali wasn’t the only one with a problem with Vienna. She’s the only one that stood up to her, which made Ali look like a bitch. She will make a great Bachelorette as she loves to have fun and I think the one-on-ones won’t be as boring as Jake’s were. She has spunk and knows what she wants….Dude/dud – very funny:)

    • Em

I completely agree! Tenley should be the next bachelorette hands down! She is so sweet. Ali just wanted to pick a fight when she was jealous of Vienna. Not classy. Tenley deserved it more.

    • Alex

tenley thinks she is a fairy princess right out of a story book- watching her would be insufferable for a whole season, it should have been Gia

    • Jenna

Tenley is too much of a good girl to be the Bachelorette. She’d never kiss that many guys or be willing to have overnight dates with more than one man. It’s not in her character. Plus after the heartbreak she just experiences, I’m sure she’d turn down any chance at it.
Gia or Aly was the natural choice. Plus Aly’s ratings were sky high.

    • Katharine

Tenley would have been great, but I think she needs to get over her exhusband before she’s thrown into the arms of 25 gorgeous men! I feel she’s not over him as she talked about him A LOT during one-on-one time with Jake: not the way to impress a man.

  • SAM

Ali? Really? Funny how the Mean Girl Instigator is suddenly humble and “blessed”. Give me a break. I can’t watch an entire season of her Kardashian-like whiny voice. Can’t do it.

    • Abbie

EXACTLY! How bout some cheese to go with that whine! Ugh. This was her plan from the beginning, though. She never wanted Jake, just screen time in order to get the Bachelorette gig.

      • Buffy0214

Totally!!! Didn’t she act like a pageant winner when talking about being the next bachelorette? I had no idea that America fell in love with her. It was news to me. I’ll be skipping it.

    • Gellin

Absolute Mean Girl! She’s snowin ya Chris.

      • Oakvillian

SAM – so you don’t like Ali? Well that’s your choice and I guess it means you won’t have to watch the show in the spring and make your comments here. No big loss.
For those of us who do like Ali we’ll watch and enjoy the show for what it is – a diversion, an hour or so of seeing what someone else goes through for ‘love’. It is what it is – fun and distracting. I mean, we could watch 24, instead, right?

    • KC

Right, and now it’s all about how she “learned” that she has to put love first and that’s why she can be on the Bachelorette. Who writes this stuff?

    • A

Really? Ali has a whiny voice??? Hardly. I loved Tenley as much as anyone but her voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Jake wasn’t on the finale of his episode and he was the Bachelor. Why can’t Ali be the next Bachelorette? Hmmm…. Ali is great and she deserves a second chance at love too. Give her a break! Plus there is no way that Tenley has the personality to carry a show…. she’s great but too mild.

      • SAM

Oh, I agree, Tenleys voice is much worse. Neither of them should be the next Bachelorette, it would be nice to start fresh.

      • bachelor-fan-no-more

        Ali?? Is that you????

      • Joycie

Yes, imo that Tenley voice is difficult to take as I mentioned previously. Now consider this, A, I am convinced that Ali said she was sorry about the bashing of Vienna because she knew then, at the WTA show, that V was the choice and they may have told her she had to make nice if she wanted the new gig. Interesting that they both used the same term, she and Vienna, “trashed in the tabloids”. Right?

    • niikky

So with you. Ali was downright cruel and yet they positioned Vienna as the devil… There is no way I’m watching a season of Ali. I wish her luck, I do. But honestly, the mean girl isn’t supposed to get the guy in the end…

    • SMac

I totally agree. Ali is the wrong choice! Not only because of her obviously annoying qualities, the whiny voice and the fake crying, but because of her character. She didn’t just make one or two snide remarks about Vienna. She waged an all-out vendetta against the girl! She also bailed on Jake (thank god for that) because of her job. Like, she couldn’t have made the appropriate arrangements before going on the show! I honestly feel like she (or ABC) planned it all from the beggining.

  • Sue T.

Chris, I enjoyed your blog and the show — I’ll admit, I did read the spoilers, but by knowing in advance that Jake picked Vienna, I feel I got to watch the love story develop! However, I agree that Jake’s initial words to Vienna, and his giving back the promise ring, were a little cruel and I wonder if the producers go over the bachelor’s speeches to each woman in advance to get them to ratchet up the suspense. I felt so sorry for poor Vienna, obviously thinking she was being rejected. I hope their relationship beats the odds and lasts!

    • kimmer

duh? you wonder if the show might be scripted?

      • KC

haha and you think Chris didn’t know about it?

  • PT

Serioulsy, Chris? Seriously? You’re going to lecture others about “taking shots at people and trying to tear them down”? After the witch-hunt you led last week? Puh-leeze.

    hyp·o·crite /ˈhɪpəkrɪt/ [hip-uh-krit] –noun
1.a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2.a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his public statements.

    • miss k

Omg. You actually put definitions on your post. What’d you do? Copy and paste? How is Chris being a hypocrite anyway??? And who was the witch-hunt for???

      • akpilot59

        ROZ

      • marceebee

That’s why PT put the definitions on her post – so people can clearly see what a hyocrite Chris is to lecture the veiwers about taking pot-shots one week after he ripped a young woman to shreds infront of everyone. Maybe you missed last week’s travesty, or maybe you just don’t “get it.”

      • SLB

Exactly. And Roz meeting his parents situation “ironic”. Not really, she’s an immature rude b*tch. His proposal beautiful? It looked as corny and phony as every other season of the bachelor. Chris really thinks we were surprised he picked Vienna? Since Jake was thinking with his d*ck the wholse season, i don’t think it was a surprise to anyone. So when Vienna gets Jake to pay for her nose job and get her cross eyes fixed will she leave him too. Ooooh, a behind the scenes show. Is that so Harrison can prove Roz could have had sex without the cameras picking it up? I’ll be real surprised next month when they announce they split up. Keep trying to convince us this show is real Chris. The success rate is just so high.

    • sprite

Not to mention that Chris and the producers are the reason so many people have a poor opinion or Jake, Vienna and even Ali since they are the ones who edited the show to highlight all the “drama”!

    • Uh huh

Exactly! Hypocrite to the MAX! Wake up people and see CH for who he really is.

    • jodi

This is also an appropriate characterization of Ali-little miss hypocrite. ALso very fake. She was so sweet around Jake and then went total-bi*** at the house. I can’t stand her!

  • Sharon

Jake is plastic and too perfect. What a dork. He and Vienna will be broken up within the month.

    • mb

I agree. Actually, They won’t break up till after he has finished all his “Hollywood” stints and they are out of the limelight.

      • gigi

Agreed. He’s on DWTS…we’ll be seeing cross-eyes and spray tans for atleast 4 episodes.

    • Anne

I predict he “falls in love” with his DWTS partner

      • marceebee

I agee. It will be real interesting to see who they pair him up with. If it is Chelsea Hightower Vienna could have a real problem!

      • queue55

It IS Chelsie! Let the dancing begin!

      • cestmoi

Ha! I thought the same thing! He’d be way better off anyway if that happens!

      • marceebee

And you know what would have been even better? If they also booked Tenly! She’s already an amateur dancer, so she could totally fit in that show. I think DWTS missed a great opportunity – we ALL would watch that show, don’t ya think?

  • Cassie

I really would have loved to see Tenley become the next bachelorette. The show made it impossible not to fall in love with the honest person Tenley truly is. I have never felt so connected to someone on a TV show, and I can openly admitt my family and I were bawling after the final results. It’s hard to witness what would have been the perfect match, just slip away. I truly feel that the reason Jake can’t put into words what the ‘magical’ factor that was missing from Tenley was, is because he allowed himself to become blinded by the fact that he was so SEXUALLY attracted to Vienna. It was clear, and it should be uncomfortable to admit to millions of viewers, what was missing, because it is embarassing. It would be for any guy who, with out a doubt, followed something else, but it definitely wasn’t his heart… I dont mean this to be offensive to Ali, but I won’t be watching The Bachelor anymore. This last season was too much. It’s America! We like the happy endings…why do you think there is so much contraversy?….But Chris, you have been my favorite host of ANY show on television. Cheers.

    • Julie

I completely agree with this post. I couldn’t have said it better myself. It was embarassingly evident what the true reason for picking Vienna over Tenley was. I respect Tenley and honestly she is the most genuine character to ever be apart of this show. But I will sadly agree that I just can’t watch Ali after this past season. I think everyone just wants to forget about how hurt Tenley was and either make her the new bachelorette, or choose an entire different face. It’s just reminds everyone of how emotional this season was, and yes, in America, we love the happy endings. The Bachelor/bachelorette endings are just too upseting. I’m tired of the empty feeling during the last rose ceremony. Just not fun to watch anymore, but it has been a fun ride. Salute.

      • Dallas Child

Amen, Julie. I definitely will not be watching Ali next season. I couldn’t stomach it. Her PR person told her to turn up the “I’m so humbled and blessed” meter. But not even the Men in Black can make me forget her claws coming out yet again on the Women Tell All when she snidely told Michelle that she was offended hearing Michelle say, “FOR ME, it’s not a way to meet the love of my life.” Ali had to find something to hang her so called halo on. Ridunkulous…

    • Mo

I have one commment… it is Jake’s reality; he saw more than we did about both girls and in chose the girl he wanted in his life. We saw what the producer permitted us to see. No person wants to marry themselves.. Jake and Tenley were male/female forms of the same person. I wish everyone the best and WILL watch next season. Ali responded (as did most of America and Jake’s family) to the silliness, and at times offensive comments, from Vienna.. everyone moves on..

      • A

Totally agree! Tenley had the exact same temperment as Jake. And Ali is HUMAN!!!! Give her a break. If you’ve never criticized someone before (especially someone you were competing with) then you can throw the first stone at Ali. Otherwise, grow up, move on and just watch the next season like a normal fan without taking it so personally. Seriously!

      • Dallas Child

You’re absolutely right. Opposites attract. Any individual who’s married or single and in love with their can tell you that.

      • Sue

Sure, A, just like Ali gave Vienna a break? Isn’t Vienna HUMAN????? And, I don’t want to read any smart remarks about that!

      • bachelor-fan-no-more

        A

Again….Ali, is that you???? Sure seems like it! Trying to win people over to your side? Hmmm…Don’t think so. You can blame the show, not the people who comment, for the poor editing they did on you. They really threw you under the bus, girl!

      • Joycie

I think everyone is underestimating Jake and his independence; he made his own decisions over and over again.. it was the thing about him I liked best…Sorry, I do not see Tenley like that at all and in fact it has been said over and over, she is a “follower”. He is anything but.. First of all his Aquarius Birthday gives him away.. When he said he told his parents too much up front and was sorry he did, and then when he blurted out his feelings to Tenley prematurely on that boat, I said to myself..”huh huh-the lesson of restraint the Aquarius personality would do well to learn(he has not learned it yet).” I had to look up the B-day and sure enough, there it was: January 27th..

      • Jordan

Mo, very well put and perceptive…I too came up with that observation. In the previous show Jake lacked that “unpredictablness” thing that most women secretly desire and the same goes for Tenly…on the otherhand…being centered in this sick world is a good thing and shows maturity, but sadly, Jake still wants that rollercoaster ride that Vienna will certainly provide…Jake will learn the hard way that Tenly was marrying material and Vienna was a “merry-go-round”. Talk about the horse’s A_ _!!!

    • Really

I completely agree with you! He was looking for the instant gratification rather than what’s best for the long haul. Although he may be happy now in the honeymoon stage, I sincerely think that he will end up regretting his decision (whether it’s in two weeks or two years) because the firy sexual attraction will eventually simmer, and he will be left with a person who lacks the qualities that it seemed he was originally looking for from the get go. I almost feel a little sad for him.

    • Louanne

What are you talking about? Jake admitted outright that he chose Vienna for the spark. He didn’t say it at the final rose ceremony because he was trying not to hurt Tenley by telling her that he was simply not attracted to her that way. Attraction is neither about looks nor about who’s more perfect. It is about who makes you feel most comfortable and Vienna did that for Jake. Is that so hard to take at face value?

    • Sabrina

I disagree. It’s definitely important – above anything – to have that emotional connection and friendship with someone. Absolutely. But a physical connection is crucial too. Not to be crude, but it’s important to just be able to, you know, go at it in the kitchen sometimes because you can’t keep your hands off of each other. No way Tenley would ever be able to do that…I think she puts sex and sexuality on a pedestal. I wish her the best, because she’s obviously a sweet girl…she just seems to have the wide-eyed innocence of a child – which I’m not sure works in a marriage. And she’d never work as a Bachelorette!

      • Ann

I agree. Tenley came off as so childlike to me – no sense of humor to speak of. There’s more to marriage and life than always saying the right thing and always needing to be perfect. I completely understand what Jake was saying when he said that he couldn’t really open up around Tenley – he was afraid to break her! I really hope she finds her prince charming… but I’m afraid for her that nothing less that perfect will do. And that doesn’t exist. It’s funny because I think Jake dumped Tenley for the exact same reason that Jillian dumped Jake in the first place.

      • Jordan

Ann…agree…excellent point! Are you available? LOL

    • KT

I agree with you Cassie. I was crying my eyes out when Jake let Tenley go and I KNEW who he picked. My husband said it perfectly, that Jake has ONLY a physical attraction to Vienna and an emotional attraction to Tenley. HUMM, which do you think will last longer. Those tattoos begin to sag along with other parts and then what about the emotional connection. I am happy for Jake, however I think Vienna is too superficial for this to last. She even said it herself, I have always wanted this lifestyle! What about the love, money is the root of all evil. I only wish Tenley to best and I was blessed to watch her grow as a person. You deserve a wonderful man and Jake was not it!

    • Kate

I think Tenley was fragile. Wonderful girl but she can be hurt so easily and that is what Jake was afraid of. Also agree that Jake and Tenley were similar which can get boring. Vienna is a tough chick and rolls with his rough boy stuff when he gets playful. Not that I like Vienna but it is what it is. I think he may tire of Vienna because real life will set in and she will also get bored unless he treats her like his princess 24/7! His family has doubts and I don’t think they really changed their minds either.
Vienna is also too young for a 31 yr old or was she looking for a daddy?

  • sidney dodd

I loved Vienna when she first stepped out of the limo. Jake choose her because of what every man wants, Passion. Also, I agree, Tenley should be the next bachelorette. Who wants to go out with know-it-all Ali?

  • CJ

What a hypocrite. It’s become easy to take shots at people and tear them down? Isn’t that what you and the producers do every week on this show? If it works for the storyline let’s destroy such and such this week? Vienna is getting so much hate because your show threw her completely under the bus. Don’t blame the viewers. In spite of all the bad editing I was rooting for the real Vienna that was never shown and Jake so I’m happy for them, no thanks to the producers. And no matter how Joan of Arc you’ll want to make Ali, she still sucks and I will not watch that mean spirited girl next season.

    • ACT

I totally agree. Ali was probably chosen to be the Bachette b4 the show & was given full reign to be the mean girl against Vienna. I predicted it would be “good vs evil” & the show tried to 1st pitch Ali as the good & Vienna as the evil…after Ali it was Sugar (Tenley) & Spice (Vienna). The only reason there are some detractors against Jake is the show’s fault for painting him as an inept, socially awkward boob.

And the scriptwriters. Jake’s parody of himself on Kimmel says it all. How many seasons can one say journey, in love with both, impossible decision, blessed, etc. Maybe it’s time for the show to just let people be real. What a novel idea..a reality show with real people being real. One of the reasons Ali will tank the show’s ratings. The majority of your viewers are women & we in the West see Ali for what she is…career woman not! Vienna’s honesty & zest was actually refreshing & I wish Jake and her the best.

    • Mo

didn’t you just blame the producers for “editing” Vienna for us?? But not Ali?? Who’s the hypocrite?

  • Jane

Chris, you are the worst hypocrite on television1!!! How dare you lecture others about how “it’s become easy and somewhat in vogue to take shots at people and try to tear them down” when that’s all you did all season to a single mother. I don’t even like Rozlyn, but the way you treated her was despicable, and you have NO BUSINESS whatsoever preaching morality to anybody after your outrageously vicious behavior this season. Look in the mirror, Chris, and say those words to YOURSELF!!

Oh, and by the way. Only one couple has actually found love on your show so you’re not just a hypocrite, your a TOTAL FAILURE!

    • Jane

      oops ‘you’re’

      • jenn

I don’t know what would make someone feel good about calling someone a TOTAL FAILURE….?? I just hate the stone throwing that goes on here….noooobody is perfect and Chris is an employee of his show. The ratings make him successful, not the outcome of the relationships.
Lay off people! If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it!!

      • Katharine

I think I missed something…I felt Chris was defending himself/the show when confronting Roz on the “After the Rose Ceremony” as she was totally slamming the show in interviews and was caught lying. Even once the other ladies confronted her with facts she more or less called them liers. Emma a lier – I don’t think so!

    • Jenna

      Wrong. Let’s count shall we?
      Mary and Byron
      Jason and Molly
      Trista and Ryan

  • Nicci

The only chance of me watching the show again after this horrible season was Tenley I can not believe she is not the next Bachelorette boooo ABC boooooo.

  • Deb

I want to say that I have been a Vienna fan for Jake from the start! Although I also loved Tenley. I have to say that Tenley would better suit as the next Bachelorette. Ali to me was nothing but a TROUBLE maker. She started all those Drama scenes from my take of it all. Vienna was at least honest from the start… she was there for Jake and Jake only. Vienna did not go there to make girlfriends.. and I commend her for standing up for her beliefs!.. WAY TO GO JAKE AND VIENNA! Im so SORRY for you Tenley but remember one thing.. Jake is right you are an amazing woman! You deserve a man to love you for all of you and everything you stand for. From Canada with Love!

    • Really

I think that the show only let us see what they wanted us to see. To be honest, if you can get 15 or so other girls to hate you, then there must be something slightly off about you. Ali was pretty vocal about how she felt towards Vienna, which portrayed her as being bitter, but who knows how much of it was edited. None of the girls seemed to like Vienna and I think that’s a HUGE red flag that Jake is ignoring because he is thinking with his you know what.

      • T.G.

I agree with you totally. Most of the other girls disliked Vienna too. Jessie and Ashley (the blond one) couldn’t understand why he picked her. Jessie even tried to warn Jake, but he didn’t listen. ABC was forced to edit the show to make Vienna look good because she was Jake’s choice.
Personally, I feel that physical attraction is an offshoot of emotional attachment. Deep emotional feelings enhance the physical side of things. Jake got it backwards. He went for the superficial physical “puppy love” instead of the deep emotional side of things. He chose Vienna with his body not his mind. He’ll come to realize his mistake, but by then it will be too late. He’ll probably be bankrupt. Besides, none of the other girls are going to want Vienna’s reject.

  • tammyandphat

    I agree with Chris

  • Jenn

I have never bothered leaving comments on sites like these. I just couldn’t hold back the disgust that Ali is going to be the next Bachlorette. It was a roller coaster ride with that girl. I liked her in the beginning, wanted her to win, then she became mean and hateful toward Vienna who never really did anything. Ali’s true colors were shown when she whined, then left the show thinking that Jake was gonna run after her like she was Gods gift. I liked Vienna. I never thought what the girls were saying was true. I’m glad he picked Vienna and believe they truly love eachother!I will not watch Ali….BARF!

    • Lynn

I thought it was funny how at the end of ATFR they had all the women in the audience coming up for Ali and saying ‘we can’t wait to watch you on the Bachelorette!’ Wonder how much they were paid. Do they always try this hard to make the Bachelorette seem likeable? After seeing all the hate here and on other sites, maybe they are actually concerned about having chose her. I wasn’t happy when they chose Jake for the Bachelor but, unlike Ali, I didn’t dislike him to the point of not watching.

      • Jenna

lol. I was there. We weren’t paid. Some of us actually *do* like Aly. And most women aren’t on these blogs at all…

  • Beth

Chris — Love your blog! I feel like I’ve really gotten to know you through it. You are a fantastic host, too!

You made some good points. Who am I to judge two people who have found happiness and love???

Personally, I am DELIGHTED that jake chose Vienna! Their chemistry was so obvious… and so magical. I LOVE them together! I have to say, Jake has really won me over. I like that he follows his heart and doesn’t care what people think.

Vienna and Jake are absolutely magical together. They make a very real & very beautiful couple! I hope we’ll be seeing their wedding one day, too! =)

    • jj

Seriously, are you even aware that Vienna divorced her husband while he was in Iraq and drew all of their money out of the bank to have a boob job. She then slept with his best friend and went to work
      at Hooters.
All this revealed by Vienna’s husband’s mom in “US”

      • Joycie

Seriously, “US”, are you kidding? It is nothing but a rag that makes up lies .. How about the Brangelina lies they have written? All false and we are so glad there is at least one law suit out on that one.. They will happily prey on people like you who buy into this garbage and are so filled with hatred, they are happy to join any chorus designed to wreck this couple.. These two have been through enough and your accusation, is very old, has been disproven and is nothing but a crock…
