Greetings, PopSasquatchers! The 2010 Vancouver Olympics closing ceremonies are still raging on, but I no longer recognize the Canadian musicians, and Joannie Rochette just rushed Read the full post.

Avril should have been topless like she was in that magazine.
I kept hoping they would bring out K’naan to perform during the closing ceremony.
They couldn’t have brought him: K’naan will perform at the most popular sport event in the world: the World Cup (of what you call “soccer”).
I don’t understand all the hate on here. I’m an American but I think that our neighbors of the north are great! Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and I think this was a really wonderful Olympics. Thank you, Canada! It was great to have the Olympics so close to home, even if NBC still kept us from watching events in real-time. And congrats on your hockey win! Both teams should be proud to have gone from 7th and 8th place in the 2006 Olympics to being silver and gold medalists in 2010. Being from northern CA, I’m a Sharks fan, and four of our guys are coming home with gold!
I don’t understand either, I’m Canadian, from Vancouver, I live in Seattle now, because I married an American. I love Americans-they are VERY friendly people too! (Yes, Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world) It makes me feel shame when Americans act/talk like this with so much hate. I thought we were friends? Maybe they hate other countries because of ignorance or lack of education?!
I’m an American with a Canadian boyfriend and I’m just bummed by this whole board too. Luckily, it does not reflect my real-life experience, in which I have wonderful, welcoming warm Canadian friends who are warmly welcomed by me as well. Let’s me laugh at everybody here who just needs to feel better about themselves by hating what they don’t even know
This hate is upsetting and disturbing. Hopefully it is just some upset hockey fans and not real anger.
It’s just some drunks on both sides of the border blowing off steam. That’s my theory.
Here! Here! I LOVE Canadians! I love how they all sing their national anthem (look at us, we barely know the words anymore.) I love how they care and work hard and have such a great sense of humor. I was in a quandry over the Big Hockey Game, who did I want to win? It is Canada’s Game and since they haven’t brought home Lord Stanley’s Cup in many years I was delirious the got the Gold! (What a bunch of sore losers Team USA came across as, eh?) I loved how some Canadian, no doubt, thought to bring up the 4th arm of the cauldron last night so that the Canadian woman could light it as she couldn’t 17 days before–that was brilliant!) I loved the forever bouncing Snow People! Ah but it was wonderful and even though NBC is the worst Canada was the best. My hat is off to you, Canada!!! Thank you.
I agree. I am a huge hockey fan. I was glued to the tv. I was sad that the US didn’t win but we got second. That is pretty good in my book. Can’t wait to watch some hockey tonight. And for all the haters it is a game. There is a winner and a loser. They ALL played great and ALL should hold their heads up high.
I kept hoping K’naan was going to come out and perform.
Waving Flag would have been a perfect song for the Closing Ceremonies. I’ve heard though, that it’s on the short list as the official song for the FIFA World Cup. That might be the reason he didn’t perform it last night.
I believe it has been officially selected. I was reading the other day that K’naan wrote new lyrics to the song to make it more uplifting for FIFA, and I believe I saw it on iTunes for download already.
Exactly, his song has already been selected to be the anthem of the most popular sport event in the world.
#10–reindeer sweaters..I thought those were moose on their sweaters.
NBC cuts away from Alanis for a lame Andrea Kremer interview? Goodness, they can’t even cover a party right.
Although they could have done a much better job picking the musical acts, it was the bogus macy parade giant beavers and mounties that really made me cringe. Self deprecating humour is one thing but this was just glop, not a great ending after the amazing effort of the athletes. Had the organizers been sampling too much BC bud lately? However the opening ceremonies were awesome.
It’s not self deprecating humor!! We know how to take a joke about our sterotypes in a way that most other cannot!!!
The organizers are all over 60 so what they thought was hip, wasn’t cool to us Canadian youth. The closing ceremonies should been everyone partying on the ice with the Canadian GOLD winning hockey team!!
I think they were trying to copy the closing ceremony from the Sydney 2000 games, which was also self deprecating, but it worked so much better.
I actually really really liked the Macy’s-like parade of Canadiana.
The real winners are the spectators and viewers
I didn’t love the closing ceremonies–until I saw the giant inflatable beavers. Totally loved them. Really; where does one go from there??
Mine was also directed at Herro Kitty. More like Zero Kitty, seems like a loser in life to me.
U.S eh! U.S eh! Nice shot Sidney!
I don’t understand why the Sochi presentation featured more of Moscow than Sochi. Sure, they showed the seaside amphitheatre (man, it must have been at least 2 a.m. there!), but it was night time so everything was dark, and the camera focused on the skaters, not on the environment. From what I’ve read, Sochi is even warmer than Vancouver, with palm trees along the beach and lots of mining and industry in the region.
What a beautifully situated venue that Sochi amphitheater is. Bet a lot of people (including myself) thought the background was green-screened.
33. The Made in Canada Parade gifts us with the best Bob Costas quote of these excellent and friendly Games: “Here we have the always-enjoyable giant inflatable beaver.”
This was the funniest thing I heard all day..my husband and I couldn’t stop laughing. As if one sees inflatable beavers on a daily basis. LOL
PRICELESS !! LOL
Can someone explain why everybody loves to rip on Avril? What has she ever done, except consistently put out hit songs, and make the most of the talent she’s got?
After her guest judging on Idol wearing a devil horned hoodie, I have NO respect for her. She’s autotuned like all the rest and she’s just a little twit who got lucky. I used to like her but her attitude sucks big time!
She always comes off as an uneducated idiot to me. OK, I’ll admit she had a couple of decent songs, but overall I don’t like her music. and like GS, her attitude sucks.
Haha, where to start?
OH MY GOD did you see her on Idol? She is dumber than a tree trunk, and with less charisma. She is a dumb, clueless little girl.
Two ceremonies and not one ambassador from Degrassi. And there is hardly an excuse now that little Jimmy Brooks is Drake, certified rap star. I’m so depressed, Canada, I could cry.
