Plastic Man wins first-ever '3D Talent Award'

Brendan Fraser won the first-ever “Best 3D Talent” award for his acting and producing roles in Journey to the Center of the Earth at the International 3D Society’s Lumiere Awards. Tragically, the awards show was not hosted by the candlestick from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Full winners list after the jump. Avatar picked up six awards, of course.

By the way, we know this event was held Tuesday. We just really, really like this picture, and judging from PopWatchers’ response to Kate’s “Brendan Fraser can do no wrong in my book. Yes, I’m serious” post, so will you.

First!!! Brendan Fraser can do no wrong. Even that gawd-aweful Monkey Bone grows on you after a few viewings.

    • E’s Dub

Homey don’t play that game on EW.

Oh Annie, I’ve grown so used to your style that when you put in that line about Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast I said to myself “That sounds like Annie Barret” and I was right :)

I thought this was going to be some sort of announcement about Brendan Frasier playing Plastic Man in a movie. But hopefully, there will never be a Plastic Man movie (actually, I’ve never read a story about the guy: I’m completely judging him by his name).

plastic man never got his due. he was a comedy superhero comic character and was actually kinda cool. after the fantastic 4 became a hit over at Marvel Comics the concept originators at DC comics decided to create “Elongated Man”, (enter phallic joke here) a more “serious minded hero” EXACTLY like plastic man but without the jokey history. (or the better sounding name.) elongated man was (arguably) the lamest member of the Justice League EVER introduced. if Brenden Frasier got to play plastic man it could possibly be pretty great. he handles funny pretty well and is a far more versatile actor than i have EVER seen him credited. in addition, his willingness to “just take the paycheck” makes him perfect for the part; plastic man was just like that. i saw monkey bone and hated it. still do. hated inkheart too. i thought the mummy was one of the best movies i’ve seen. seriously. love it. it harkens back to old school Hollywood thiller monster movies. (thank you Universal Studios. this is why you are AWESOME.) mummy returns? chinese one? nope. craptastic new school Hollywood cash-grab. (universal, this is why you suck.) if there is anyone left in hollywood that can write such a character and make him current and funny- if there is a studio in hollywood that has the balls to make such a film- (sadly warner brothers owns it… see “superman returns” for references) brendan frasier could be a pretty damn great plastic man.

Now with all the funky technology available for movies, I can see a Plastic Man movie made. However, I doubt todays kids would understand who he was. Those of us who grew up in the late70′s to early 80′s know that Patrick “The Eel” O’Brian, alias Plastic Man, was a DC comic. He then became an an ABC cartoon produced by Ruby/Spears. If it is made, it should not be as bad as Inspector Gadget the movie.

By the way, Annie, Brendan looks more like a member of the band Devo and not Plastic Man.
