'16 & Pregnant' Q&A: Meet season 2's mom of twins

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: ,

Season 2 of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant premiered last week with another season of diapers, drama, and hard-hitting emotions. The cast is an eclectic bunch, but this season brings a new pickle into the set-up: a mother of twins.

Meet Leah, a 17-year-old West Virginia native, who got pregnant last April during a one-month relationship with then-boyfriend Corey. Fast forward nine months and Leah is bearing the brunt of balancing school with her new role as a mother of two.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Did you watch the first season?
LEAH:
I was already pregnant during [the first season]. Watching them, I’m like, “Oh my gosh! It’s hard!” And now I’m there in the middle of it. I’m going through the same thing they were going through.

My mom actually signed me up for the show. I had no clue about any of it. She wanted me to show girls how it was. She was a young mom also so she kind of knew how hard it was already. She liked the show. She thought it was very inspirational to show other teens out there that it’s not easy. I just want people to see what you have to go through to be a teenage mom.

Did you resist doing the show since you hadn’t heard about it?
I was thinking, That’s kind of scary. I didn’t want to be humiliated because it is hard and you do mess up and don’t know what to do. But I was OK with it after I thought about it for a while.

How did your parents react when you told them about your pregnancy? READ FULL STORY »

Evan Lysacek on his post-Olympics plans: 'Dancing With the Stars'?

evan-lysacekImage Credit: Scott Halleran/Getty ImagesThe day after Evan Lysacek defeated Yevgeny Plushenko in an Olympic cold war for figure skating gold, we noticed Dancing With the Stars‘ Cheryl Burke tweeting him the suggestion that he join the cast of the show. If you’ve been wondering if he’s game, well…”I would love to try Dancing With the Stars,” he told EW in an email Tuesday. “I was a proud audience member (and cheerleader) as my friends Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Ohno danced their way to the mirrorball trophy. All I have heard from everyone that has done the show is what a blast it is. That could be a good way for me to do something extremely challenging, but also fun to celebrate my Olympic win.”

We’re told Lysacek will decide by Friday whether he’ll represent the U.S. at the World Figure Skating Championships next month in Torino, Italy. The next cast of Dancing With the Stars will be announced Monday during The Bachelor finale. Meaningless coincidence? Probably. Dancing With the Stars returns to ABC on March 22, and Lysacek is looking forward to headlining the Stars on Ice tour, which runs April 1 through May 30. (Still, we did a quick check of the Stars on Ice schedule, and only one date, May 10, falls on a Monday — DWTS‘ performance night. Lysacek is a notorious workhorse, and we’ve seen moonlighting contestants before…but there are plenty of Tuesday Stars on Ice dates, which means he’d have to miss DWTS‘ results night. We bet he signs on for a future season.)

Style Hunter: Claire's trench coat on 'Modern Family'

Claire and Phil tried for a more kinky Valentine’s Day this year, but what began with some role playing (Claire as Juliana and Phil as the suave-but-stupid Clive Bixby) ended with Claire stuck in the hotel escalator wearing a trench and little else.

Plenty of you have been asking Style Hunter to track down Claire’s string-laced jacket and we have an answer: It’s the ivory leather trench by Royal Underground, a clothing line started by Nikki Sixx and fashion industry vet Kelly Gray, who met the rocker at a Mötley Crüe concert in 2006.

Unfortunately, the jacket is no longer available. To get a similar look that puts a rock-’n'-roll spin on the average trench coat, try Nicole Miller’s metallic trench (nicolemiller.com; $225), Bebe’s side ruched coat (bebe.com; $139), or Miss Sixty’s studded trench (nordstrom.com; $118).

The 'My So-Called Life' reunion of my dreams almost came true

my-so-called-life-reunionImage Credit: Dave M. Benett/Getty ImagesSo this happened: Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano! Together! Again! I mean Claire Danes and Jared Leto bumped into each other at an event in London. But still.

In my head, this is the My So-Called Life reunion movie that will obvs never happen. It’s the Liberty High School reunion — or maybe a Mr. Holland-style tribute to Mr. Katimski? — and the whole gang is back in town. Jordan, though, never really left; such is the fate of the marginally literate stoner dude who doesn’t know a good thing (one Ms. Angela Chase) when he’s got it. Rickie and Rayanne probably decamped for New York, where he’s now a counselor at a GLBT youth center and her stage career is really gaining steam — sometimes she still uses that Our Town monologue as an audition piece. They managed to stay BFFs, but they haven’t seen Angela in a while; after she left for college, they tried to keep in touch, but this was back in 1997, before everyone used e-mail and all. Angela’s heard from Brian a few times — their parents are still neighbors, so she’s strangely up-to-date on his post-MIT life — and of course Sharon Cherski has two kids already. Angela has surprised herself by actually becoming really tight with her sister Danielle, who’s poised to take over the family printing business should Patty ever decide to retire or switch gears to help with Graham’s restaurant. These days, Angela works in Philly for a non-profit that helps teenage runaways, mostly by giving them boots.

Do me one better, PopWatchers. Where are the My So-Called Life characters now?

Exclusive First Look: 'The Joneses' movie poster

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

joneses_duchovny Here’s your first look at the movie poster for the dark David Duchovny-Demi Moore comedy The Joneses (releases April 16). They star as the seemingly perfect couple next door that move into a gated community with their equally perfect children (Zombieland’s Amber Heard and The Beautiful Life‘s Ben Hollingsworth) and become the envy of all. The twist: They’re not a family, they’re employees of a stealth marketing company with the job of making their neighbors and classmates want what they’ve got. The price tags on the poster are a nice touch, even if they make me feel bad about myself: I can’t keep up with a $1,500 leather jacket. Things get complicated when Duchovny’s character begins wanting to play house with his boss (Moore) and a real-life drama threatens to blow their cover. A clever plot and the first pairing of Duchovny and Moore (as a sarcastic, submissive smartass and a domineering tease) — I’m in. You?

'Showgirls: The Return' trailer: Even I want to die

As someone who road tested the Showgirls V.I.P. Edition DVD for a national publication and got annoyed that none of the friends she invited to her viewing party would play the ”Pin the Pasties on the Showgirl” game with her, I should appreciate the cheese factor of someone allegedly taking the time to film a Showgirls sequel. I say “allegedly,” because according to Joblo‘s translation of an article on a German site, the production claims to have had a $25 million budget and that is ridiculous considering the red band trailer makes it look like a porno with even worse acting. It’s even too bad to be awesomely bad, so only check out the trailer if you’re a masochist (and if you don’t mind full frontal nudity).

'American Idol': Like it or not, 'Wicked Game' reminds me of planetarium sex on 'Friends'

On last night’s American Idol, Siobhan Magnus (who, according to Slezak, looks a little like Doctor Who‘s Billie Piper) made an impression by singing Chris Issak’s iconic ballad “Wicked Game.” My first thought ran along the lines of “Ooh, yay, a decent, smart, unexpected song choice!” But I was soon overwhelmed by flashbacks of the Rachel ‘n’ Ross Doin’ It in the Planetarium scene from Friends. This keeps happening — remember when I got excited/embarrassed that the emergence of Yemen in the real (read: non-PW) news made me think of Chandler? I never considered myself a Friends fanatic (related: I have no friends), but I guess it’s stuck with me more than expected. Let’s relive history!

“The little cluster of stars next to the big one? That is Randykara Major.” The weird thing is I loved “Wicked Game” long before that episode of Friends, and would sort of prefer to think of the Very Sexy Video for Wicked Game instead of ROSS AND RACHEL. I don’t quite understand why so many of my pop culture awareness needs to be rooted in Friends, but the effect is irreversible at this point. I just need to go with it. Damn you, Monica Geller!

Does anyone else “suffer” from a Friends-dominated frame of reference? And how do I make friends?

Jude Law on 'SNL': So handsome it just might work!

Jude-LawImage Credit: Janet Mayer/PR PhotosJude Law will be hosting Saturday Night Live March 13 with musical guest Pearl Jam. Law has hosted before, but you might not remember how he did — back in 2004, musical guest Ashlee Simpson’s lip-synching debacle overshadowed Law’s hosting skills. But now he has another chance to show his silly side, and boy do I hope he goes for it.

Law doesn’t play comic roles very often, but he was a really good sport with Jimmy Fallon a few months ago, and if he’s willing to play against his public persona as Captain Smoldering von Sexystare, who heads the HMS Handsome Brit, this could be a really fun episode.

Open goofiness, a song or dance number, maybe a lousy impression or two — I can see this hosting gig working out pretty well. What about you, PopWatchers? Do you think SNL can, er, lay down the Law?

'16 and Pregnant' recap: Fascinating, disturbing, utterly All-American

Filed under: Reality TV, Television and tagged: , ,

niikkoleImage Credit: MTVI don’t have sisters, I’m hopefully at least two decades away from having teenaged children, and I’m a man. So if you want to argue that I have no idea what I’m talking about when I talk about 16 and Pregnant, you’re probably right. But I do know great TV when I see it, and I am truly fascinated by the show’s emotional depth and no-bull docudrama. It’s almost repulsive how completely the show seems to capture the bruised hearts of these girls.

Obviously, this is MTV, so there’s a whiff of unhealthy glamour even in the grittiest handheld-camera-filmed OBGYN appointment. (The worst part about watching this second season of 16 and Pregnant is imagining these girls with positive pregnancy tests in their hand, thinking, “Hey, I can go on MTV!”) But at the best moments of the show (which, admittedly, are usually the worst moments for the people onscreen), it feels like the network has grafted the impeccable stylistic timing of a more fun reality hour – The Hills, or The Jersey Shore – onto a real human emotional spectrum. Olympic Studs of the Day: U.S. Nordic combined ski team

demong-spillane-lodwick-camerotaImage Credit: Lars Baron/Bongarts/Getty ImagesCount me as part of the group that had no idea what Nordic combined skiing was until last night. For those who didn’t watch (and like me grew up in the snow-deficient south), it’s basically a four-man team that competes in a jump portion of competition followed by a cross-country ski relay. A little further background: The U.S. had never gotten a medal in the team event. Ever.

But that changed last night when the U.S. team took silver and earned a place on the podium for the first time in 86 years. So, for simultaneously educating and inspiring me, today’s stud honor goes to Brett Camerota, Todd Lodwick, Johnny Spillane (an honorable mention from earlier this week), and Bill Demong.
