'Date Night' clip: Tina Fey, Steve Carell decline sex with Mark Wahlberg

Oooh, a new clip Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s upcoming comedy Date Night.

Like the trailer from a few months ago, this clip seems to emphasize that the film’s a jokey impossible-task action flick — more in line with The Hangover than 30 Rock or The Office. I don’t doubt that that’s a terrific, A+ marketing strategy, one that’s sure to put cheeks in seats; a real crowd-pleaser with its Everybody Loves Raymond jokes and cartoonish gun violence. I just hope the movie is a lot more than that, too. READ FULL STORY »

American Idol Exit Q&A: Joe Munoz on his song choice and rolling with the punches

IDOL-Joe-MunozImage Credit: Patrick Ecclestein/Fox Look for our interviews with all four eliminated American Idol contestants this afternoon on PopWatch.

EW: So you sound pretty blue. Has it been a rough night?
Joe Munoz: Well, it was pretty tough but I guess that’s just part of the whole experience. I’m feeling better now.

You actually performed Jason Mraz’s “You and I Both” to pretty good reviews from the judges. So did you feel confident going into last night’s show?
I was a little nervous because the show is so unpredictable. You don’t really know what’s going to happen. I was preparing myself for whatever would happen.

The judges seemed to be especially harsh this week. Did you talk about that with the other contestants or your roommate?
I was rooming with Jermaine [Sellers].  And, yeah, they were pretty harsh on some people but I think I got good comments. We were just pretty excited to be able to be there and to have the opportunity.

I believe Randy criticized your song choice. Why did you choose “You and I Both”?
I just love that song. I really look up to Jason Mraz. I look up to him as a singer and as a performer. I love the story and I thought it would be a beautiful story to tell.

The other judges had decent things to say. Did that make you feel safe?
They build up your confidence a little bit but it’s not up to them. It’s up to the public. You can never feel totally secure about yourself because it’s up to the votes. America is so unpredictable.

So, what now for you?
I know this sounds so cliché, but I’m going to keep on trying. It’s going to happen. I feel really confident that something good is coming my way. American Idol is such an enormous platform. I never in my life dreamed I would get so much exposure.

Will you be watching the rest of the season or will it be too painful?
No, of course I’ll watch. All my friends are there. I need to support them. I’m going to vote for everyone.

'Survivor' evictee talks about big confrontation with James

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: ,

After giving itself a nice long mud bath, Survivor: Heroes vs Villains claimed its third victim Thursday night, and the choice was far from a surprising one. 50-year-old Randy Bailey claimed before the game that he was in it to win it, but truthfully, he never stood a chance. He was neither strong enough to help in challenges, nor social enough to get into the good graces of his younger tribemates who talked all episode long about needing to get rid of Parvati, yet deemed Randy more expendable instead. Randy called into EW.com this morning to talk all about his big challenge feud with James, why he threw his buff in the fire, and, of course, his awkward reunion at the sequester house with (former?) enemy Sugar. 'Project Runway': Next week's guest judge is...

EW Exclusive!

We didn’t get a new episode yesterday night (boo!), but Runway is back next week with a BRAND NEW HOUR OF HIGH-FASHION TELEVISION! As we learned at the end of the last installment, the designers will be heading to a hardware store, where they’ll procure the materials that will determine who is IN and who is OUT. See the adorable picture (left) of the adorable Tim Gunn reminding the designers that one false placement of a decorative ball bearing or extension cord could determine their fate. Also: We have the scoop on the guest-judge situation. If you want more details, then follow me beyond the jump!

'The Real Housewives of Orange County': Peace out, O.C.

Jeana is eating up this season of Housewives. Vicki, still stinging from the perceived gang-up in San Francisco, lamented the nature of “fair-weathered” cast friends while she blended a pitcher of margaritas. Hmm, two glasses? Vicki waddled out to the pool and there with a wicked half-smile on her face was the once spurned Jeana. Vicki was feeling in the need of a real friend now that Tamra and the rest of those “bitches” had turned on her. Who better than the woman whose house she toilet papered just a few episodes ago! “At the end of the day we always had each other’s back,” she said pitifully to Jeana, who nodded unconvincingly with a condescending grin. Cut to her solo interview where Jeana restrained herself from cackling with delight. “Sometimes you get what you give,” she said happily. Meanwhile, Vicki decided that all she’d give Tamra for her 42nd birthday was a gift bag delivered by her mortified assistant. She, of course, insisted that her absence at Tamra’s Hos and Mos birthday lunch was nothing personal. (“It’s Tuesday at 11 o’clock! I’M WORKING! I’M WORKING!”)

Oh for the love of… Alexis, who calls her fake boobs her twins, carted her already handsome 58-year-old mother off to her plastic surgeon’s office. Now Penelope struck me as a perfectly reasonable woman, good humored and resilient despite the fact that fate saddled her with a daughter who used to balk at walking to school out of fear that her hair would assume the smell of air . (Also, the woman  looks exactly like a character actress that I can’t place. Is it one of the waitresses from Alice? No, that’s not right. Someone out there help me!) Anyways, to witness her request for a straightforward brow lift balloon to a long laundry list of inane procedures and then the doctor marker up her remarkably unlined face was pretty depressing. “Okay you’re going off to Tahiti,” the doctor’s assistant purred at her as she went under the anesthesia. Run Penelope! Alexis was good enough to forego her Lexi time (massages and spinning classes) to sit bedside her Ma during recovery. Hey, anything in the name of cosmetic procedures that mysteriously help people evolve into more compassionate human beings!

Cheryl Cole's music can get you evicted. Which artist might leave you homeless someday?

cole-gagaImage Credit: PA Photos/Landov (2)A Cheryl Cole fan’s fellow apartment complex tenants didn’t have ”3 Words” for him yesterday in a U.K court; they had four: Get the hell out. The court ordered 22-year-old Martin Bramwell to vacate his Nottinghamshire apartment because his neighbors said he played Cole’s music into the early morning hours (and was a door slammer. The horror!).

Reading this, I suddenly feared for my own housing status. I’ve never played music into the wee hours of the morning, and that’s in part because my roommates don’t go to bed at 2 a.m. like I do. But I live with two other girls in a two-bed apartment in Manhattan (that’s two beds in one room), and we have been known to throw an impromptu Lady Gaga dance party of three after a night out. Our immediate neighbor never seems to mind – by that I mean she’s never thrown me the middle finger during our brief encounters in the hall. I wonder if she ever dreams about a ”Bad Romance” with ”Alejandro” against her will…

Which artist do you most aggressively blast “share” with your neighbors? And do they mind?

PopWatch on Ice: Kim Yu-Na's home country finally allows her to breathe after ladies' free skate

kim-yu-naImage Credit: Brian Kersey/UPI/LandovSouth Korea’s Kim Yu-Na annihilated her own record to win gold in last night’s free skate (watch), so hopefully she’ll stop getting angry “emails that were not congratulations” from her countrymen. My God, the pressure on this poor, sweet girl in the elegant blue frock! Even under the assurance that a whole nation might turn its back on her, the 19-year-old essayist had seemed cool and composed every time she appeared on camera during the ladies’ events — so composed that we might not have expected that unleashing of emotion after her routine’s final flourish. Yu-Na was so overcome with relief, she couldn’t even manage a full curtsy. I totally cried here. And that’s okay! Brian Orser said so. READ FULL STORY »

Olympic Stud of the Day: Jeret 'Speedy' Peterson

jeret-petersonImage Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty ImagesNBC announcers said last night that Jeret ”Speedy” Peterson and ”the middle ground” don’t get along. And that’s great because Stud of the Day and non-awesome people don’t get along, either. Lucky for Peterson, his Hurricane maneuver during men’s aerials put him above the rest in our eyes and judge’s eyes, securing him a spot on our epic list and the silver medal.

A Hurricane is pretty simple to explain (ski jumpers have 3.5 seconds to complete three flips and five rotations in the air) but as of now, impossible for anyone other than Peterson to land. Last night’s successful completion of the trick was sweet redemption for Peterson, who came into this Olympics with a bit of a spotted history. His failed Hurricane attempt in Turin cost him a bronze medal. And just one day later, he was sent home early from the Games after getting into a bar fight — in his defense, where I come from we call that a Thursday night. For going all or nothing and for making this awful New York blizzard a little more tolerable with his Hurricane, today’s stud honor goes to Speedy. (Watch Speedy and Ryan St. Onge’s Colbert Report interview from Wednesday.)

Honorable mentions: Marie-Philip Poulin, a Canadian hockey player who lead her team to victory yesterday, earning the country its third straight gold in women’s hockey. Despite being essentially snubbed for coverage during prime time, we noted Poulin’s fierce determination, leadership role and two game-changing goals. Shout-out to NBC’s Mary Carillo, without whom we would never have TV-traveled into the wilds of northern Canada to learn about lumberjacks. And yes, Bob Costas quoted Monty Python after the segment. ”They’re lumberjacks and they’re okay.” Are you, OK, Bob?

WAIT! What about… skating? Oh, yes, that little (freaking awesome) thing. Read all about Kim Yu-Na, Mao Asada, and Joannie Rochette in Annie’s recap. Who was your Olympic Stud last night?

Oscar watching: Live or DVR?

Filed under: Movies, Television and tagged: , ,

Be honest: Will you stay up to the wee hours to see the final Oscar get handed out on March 7? Or, will you nod off during the acceptance speech for Best Cartoon Short, content in the knowledge that you can wake up in the morning and scan through your DVR for the important highlights? Well, ABC seems concerned about you snoozers, because its new commercial accents the must-TV magic of the Oscars.

ABC doesn’t need to worry about me. I’ll do both. I’ll be glued to the tube long after Alec Baldwin has been tucked in, and then, in the morning, after I take off my tuxedo t-shirt, I’ll also rewatch the festivities over breakfast. (This is the Oscars, people!) But what about you? Are you planning to watch the entire show live, like people did way back in the 20th century?
