Tonight's 'Greek': EW cameo alert!

The only thing we like better than an episode of Greek is an episode of Greek featuring EW. Granted, in Greek world, that’s Engineering Weekly, which is interviewing Rusty—and featuring him on the cover—about his grant-winning project that we still don’t really understand. Mainly because we work at Entertainment Weekly. But we appreciate the clever gesture, Greek, and we will return the favor right here, right now, by telling all of our readers: Watch Greek tonight on ABC Family! (The ep also features some heavy discussions about the future for Casey and Cappie and a very long turtle race.) Meanwhile, enjoy this preview clip:

PopWatch on Ice: Good music, bad costumes, and questionable scoring in the pairs' short programs

Presumably not just so the world’s figure skating commentators could keep discussing how poetic it was for the pairs to take the ice on Valentine’s Day, competition got underway Sunday at the Vancouver Games. China’s married two-time Olympic bronze medalists Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao (pictured, far left), who came out of retirement in their thirties (!) to go for gold, performed first and set a new short program record. NBC’s package on their 18-year partnership and dorm-room marriage made me emotionally vulnerable, so yes, I got chills when they hit their perfect side-by-side triple toe loops. They were skating to an instrumental version of Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever” — I’m only human. We’re all rooting for them, right? Other questions that emerged after the first night of pairs (the free skate decides the medals tonight at 8 p.m. ET):

1. Whose costumes were worse: Germany’s Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy (pictured, center), who sit in second after their “Send in the Clowns” program, or Ukraine’s Tatyana Volosozhar and Stanislav Morozov (currently ninth, pictured right), who donned electric blue catsuits that could’ve been rejects from Blades of Glory for their program to “Dreams Illusion”? Note: Had Björk not built up our tolerance for swan-wear, the sequined birds on the bodices of Russia’s Yuko Kavaguti and Aleksandr Smirnov (currently third) would’ve earned them an honorable mention. I like this pair, but their remix of Camille Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan” wasn’t as memorable as Oksana Baiul’s. READ FULL STORY »

Is 'Breaking Dawn' in 3D a good idea? PopWatch poll!

As Summit Entertainment continues to decide whether to turn Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book in the Twilight saga, into two films, there is another question on the table as well: To 3D or not to 3D? But instead of just sitting back and waiting for a decision, we decided a PopWatch poll was in order to let execs (and Stephenie Meyer) know how YOU feel about a 3D treatment for the final films. Before we take it to a vote, let’s look at the pros and cons. SPOILER ALERT! READ FULL STORY »

Olympic Stud of the Day: Alexandre Bilodeau

Day 3′s Olympic Stud: Canadian Alexandre Bilodeau, who won the first gold on home soil (excuse me home SNOW) in the Men’s Moguls. The 22-year-old from Quebec is “an inspiration to an entire nation, especially his brother,” who was born with cerebral palsy and is an excellent cheerleader. Bilodeau, who is also skilled at making out with his girlfriend on-camera (yes!), did a back double full and stuck it clean! It was so great seeing the Canadian crowd completely flip out. (Watch.)

Honorable mentions: Johnny Spillane, the first American to medal in the Nordic Combined, Patrick Deneen and his pink goggles, the women’s U.S. hockey team for beating China 12-1, and Joe Biden for watching women’s hockey. Obviously I’m missing people (I just got home and have not had a chance to watch the pairs figure skating), so nominate your own Stud of the Day in the comments!

Deserves a mention: All the skiing uniforms totally look like jammies, but the U.S. men seemed especially ready for bedtime during the moguls. I feel like some of them should be clutching teddy bears for good luck and/or moral support. (Dramatization below.)

I’m also loving: the Medal Contenders’ Luxury Sofa Suite:

'Secret Life of the American Teenager': Amy kisses Ricky and tells

This season of ABC Family’s Secret Life of the American Teenager has been a lesson not so much in safe sex, like the first season, but a lesson in permutations: At the rate things are going, it seems nearly every guy in the cast will have dated every girl possible by season’s end. Despite surprise couplings like Grace and Ben and Jack and That One Friend of Amy’s, the big shocker came last week when Amy kissed — gasp — her baby-daddy, Ricky. Sure, they were just “practicing,” but could there be more romance in store for the young accidental parents? Amy herself, Shailene Woodley, stopped by EW.com to dish on the rest of the season.

Now that Amy and Ricky have kissed (again), do you think they have a future together?

Amy has so much dislike for Ricky based on his past. And Ricky gets really annoyed with Amy because she’s really spiteful. But they are a family because they have John. Amy has a confidante in Ricky and Ricky has a confidante in Amy. I think they would never hurt each other. I think deep down they both know it’ll never be a romantic thing, but sometimes they want to test it out because they think they should.

With all this juicy stuff happening this season, what more could possibly be in store?

There are like three weddings, though no teenage weddings as of right now. Ben is still confused as to what he wants to do about Amy. And Grace and Jack are still arguing about sex. They’re still trying to figure out if they want to be together.

How has it been having a toddler as your frequent costar now?

We have twins playing John now, and they’re so cute. They play with microphones and say hi to people behind the camera. Every single week the writers write something in the script for him where he says, like, “mama” and “dada,” and their mom has to be like, “They don’t even say that in real life.” So they haven’t had a lot of lines yet.

Have you watched MTV’s 16 and Pregnant? Do you feel like you understand what those girls are going through at all?

I’ve seen it a few times. It’s really sad what those girls are going through. It’s so weird to think that they’re going through what I pretend to go through. It’s trippy to think that people really deal with this stuff. I feel like the themes [on Secret Life] are realistic, but the way they present them are definitely artistically licensed. We definitely showed it was not glamorous, but I can’t believe what they go through on 16 and Pregnant. It’s crazy how awful their boyfriends are.

Olympic Stud of the Day: Apolo Ohno

Day 2 of the Vancouver Games had many contenders for the title, but when you combine the record books with a solid 2 minutes and 17 seconds of suspense, we’ve got to give it to US speed skater Apolo Ohno. Winning his sixth medal, the silver in the men’s 1500m, he tied Bonnie Blair as the most decorated Winter Olympian in history and now stands alone as the most medaled short track skater. (Watch.)

We’d been warned by the commentators that the three Korean skaters would likely sweep the podium if they got lined up, and shortly after the last lap bell, they did. Ohno was in fourth going into the final turn, when one of the Korean skaters attempted a bad pass that took out both himself and a teammate. That gave Ohno the silver and his teammate, 19-year-old J.R. Celski, the bronze. (Celski also had serious Stud potential: The Olympics are his first formal event since September’s US trials, where he crashed and gave himself a 60-stitch gash in the leg that came within an inch of the femoral artery. Had he hit it, he would’ve bled out on the ice in 10 seconds.) It was a wild, physical race that left the NBC analyst shouting “Welcome back to short track, everyone!” and at-home viewers yelling at their TVs. Now, it feels like an Olympics!

Our Olympic Stud of the Day Runner-Up won Team USA’s first gold medal of the Games, women’s moguls champ Hannah Kearney. (Watch.) She skied last, immediately following Canada’s favorite Jennifer Heil, who was in a position to bring the host country its first gold in Vancouver (and its first gold in any Olympics held on home soil). Kearney had the entire package — speed and big air — and gave one of the most endearing post-victory interviews you’ll hear all Olympics. After a disappointing Torino (she failed to make the finals), her goal was just to do well enough to make an Olympics montage on NBC. Bob Costas took great pleasure in announcing that her dream was about to come true.

Your turn. Who’s your pick for Olympic Stud of Day 2? Any votes for Switzerland’s Simon Ammann, who became the first jumper to win multiple Olympic gold medals on the normal hill? (Watch.) Or the Netherlands’ speed skating phenom Sven Kramer, who claimed gold in the 5000m with a new Olympic record, then jumped into the stands to hug his parents and girlfriend? (Watch.) What about Anastazia Kuzmina, who won Slovakia’s first ever gold at the Winter Olympics in the biathlon 7.5km sprint? (Watch.)

P.S. We’d like to give a special shoutout to yesterday’s Music Mix Olympic Song of the Day provider, US skier Shannon Bahrke, who earned a bronze in the moguls last night. Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” did its job. Check out today’s Olympic Playlist of the Day from US biathlete Lowell Bailey, who competes this afternoon. Good luck!

'Elevator Girl': Ah, young love in the postfeminist utopia of Hallmark Channel movies...

I spent my Valentine’s Eve watching a Hallmark movie called Elevator Girl, which is, well, better than spending Valentine’s Day watching a Hallmark movie called Elevator Girl. It was no Lifetime Original Movie — nor could it hold a candle to most of the ABC Family oeuvre, especially those in the epic Bring It On and Cutting Edge franchises. But it was the kind of vaguely engaging diversion that’s great to pay your bills to. (I know, I’m a romantic.) The setup was classic TV movie: a free-spirited receptionist/waitress who never quite finished culinary school — named, quite pointedly, Liberty (Lacey Chabert) — meets a corporate lawyer in a stuck elevator named Jonathan. They hit it off, the elevator got unstuck, and then — gasp — it turned out she was the server at the dinner celebrating his partnership. It got kinda mushy from there, though, vacillating between a fairly run-of-the-mill romance (when hummus is made not once, but twice, onscreen, things need to be moving a little faster) and melodramatic speeches about how crazy and unconscionable it is for male law firm partners to date women with less income and ambition than themselves.

However, I did learn a few things from Elevator Girl: 1. Someone needs to give Lacey Chabert a job on a CW or ABC Family drama so she can stop doing these movies. The girl who tried so hard to make “fetch” happen in Mean Girls deserves more. 2. Feminism has apparently triumphed so soundly in the world of Hallmark movies that all societal forces are against a corporate lawyer dating anyone who isn’t a badass VP or similar. Sorry, but as much as I love Lacey, I was kinda rooting for the poor blond career gal who was also vying for Jonathan’s affection. She is going to have a much harder time finding her professional equal. But, hey, it’s the season of love, and opposites who meet in stuck elevators are obviously always meant to be.

Did any of you PopWatchers watch Elevator Girl? Where did it rank in the TV movie pantheon for you? Did you catch any other pre-V-Day gems?

'Ruby' is back for Valentine's Day

Ruby alert! The adorable and inspiring Ruby Gettinger is back on our TV screens, as season three kicks off tonight on Style Network.

When we left her at the end of season 2, Ruby had some huge questions looming about her mysterious childhood — and this great teaser on her site (not embeddable, click here) indicates she’ll be searching for the truth this season. She looks fantastic in these clips, right?

From reading Ruby’s blog I also know this season we’ll see her in Los Angeles and Australia, although we need plenty of time in Savannah, too, y’all.

Shorter teaser here:

Who else is spending Valentine’s Day with Ruby? (Better not be Denny!)

10 Adorable/Tragic Things Charlie Brown Says in 'A Charlie Brown Valentine'

This week, I caught ABC’s re-airing of A Charlie Brown Valentine, the 2002 sequel to 1978′s Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown. This was the first original special aired after Peanuts creator Charles Schulz’s death. It draws a lot from the old comic strips, but as a result, it’s really disjointed and hard to follow. Still, there’s nothing like a half-hour dose of Charlie Brown-iness to put things in perspective. Take a look, and let us know if you have adorable/tragic Chuck tendencies yourself. Happy holidays.

10 Adorable/Tragic Things Charlie Brown Says in ‘A Charlie Brown Valentine’

To candy store cashier: “Hi, ma’am. I’d like to buy a box of candy for a girl who doesn’t know I exist. Nothing too expensive — I’ll never have the nerve to give it to her anyway.”

To Sally, who says the Little Red-Haired Girl (LRHG) will laugh right in his face if he gives her a Valentine: “At least I’d be near her!”

After the LRHG walks by before school: “I know I’m the sort of person she’d like. I’m not the greatest person who ever lived, of course, but who is? I’m just a nice sort of a guy who never gets to meet little red-haired girls.”

(LRHG drops her pencil; CB picks it up.) “She dropped her pencil! There are teeth marks on her pencil! She nibbles on her pencil! SHE’S HUMAN!

To Linus on the playground: “Look, it’s the Little Red-Hairied Girl. I’ll hide behind this trash can.”

To Lucy: “I just can’t go up to that Little Red-Haired Girl and talk to her. She has a pretty face.”

After Linus saves the LRHG from a schoolyard bully: “That’s very comforting; I’m the friend of a hero.”

Scheming in bed: “I’ll tell that Little Red-Haired Girl that I love her. Then I’ll give her a big hug. Then I’ll go bungee-jumping from the moon.”

“I wish I were sophisticated like guys you read about in stories.” (This four-second soliloquy was its own scene!)

To Lucy, when The Doctor was In: “Can you cure loneliness? Can you cure deep-down, black, bottom-of-the-well, no-hope, end-of-the-world, what’s-the-use loneliness?”

Other observations:

–Little Red-Haired Girl looks a little too much like Little Orphan Annie (she was also seen in full view in It’s Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown)

–After Sally held out her hands and said she’d just stay like that until he gave her a Valentine, Linus said “OR, you can stand like that for the rest of your life and never get anything.” Always listen to the little boy with the blanket.

–Schroeder flipped backward from the force of Lucy’s swing but she never even touched him!!!

Do you have a Little Red-Haired Girl in your life, PopWatchers? Did you ever go talk to him or her, or are you reading this behind a trash can?
