Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Heroes vs Villains': Episode 3

When last I left you…James appeared to be in the beginning stages of losing his mind. Last week’s tribal council ended with the very ugly and unnecessary comment from James to Stephenie: “Shut your mouth.”

Ah, so lovely.

Look, I’ve been a big fan of James from day one. I voted for him to be on Fans vs. Favorites and I voted for him to be on Heroes vs. Villains and up until this season I would have referred to him with affectionate phrases like “James the Gentle Giant.” Yeah… those days are gone.

I don’t know if James was going through something personal like trying to quit smoking or if he had a bad rash nobody knew about but something has definitely changed.

James is just not a nice guy these days. More on that later.

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

Boston Rob’s strategy tip was absolutely brilliant: “I’m gonna give you the key. Watch who is sleeping with whom at night.”

Talk about insight. It’s amazing what we reveal about ourselves without realizing it. As David Mamet would say, “We all have a ‘tell’.” A tell is something we’re not aware of that gives us away. That’s why poker players wear dark glasses, to hide their tells.

I wonder if Tiger Woods had a tell?

THE BLACK WIDOW THROWDOWN

Circus Announcer: “Ladies and Gentlemen, gather your children and circle the wagons, for on this very stage tonight you will be witness to one of the greatest spectacles ever seen by human eyes…it’s the Survivor Black Widow Shooooooooooowdown!”

You knew it was coming. Jerri “The Original Black Widow” Manthey coming face to face with Parvati “I Take No Prisoners” Shallow for the female grudge match of the season. I couldn’t be happier.

Jerri: Every time I’m around her I want to punch her in the face.

Parvati: She’s just a bitter old cougar.

AND THE WINNER IS…

It’s an interesting match-up but I have to give the advantage to Parvati. That doesn’t mean Jerri isn’t long for the game, it only means in terms of playing the “flirt” game, Parvati has no equal.

She’s even got Russell under her spell. Even Russell, the guy who thoroughly dominated last season in Samoa, is susceptible to the charms of a beautiful woman. Of course he is, he’s a man. Rob sees it. Coach sees it. The audience sees it. We can all sense what is going on. Russell may not want to believe it and I’m sure at the live Reunion show he’ll tell me how wrong I was, but from where I sit he is getting played by Parvati the same way my two-year-old honorary nephew Oscar plays with his marionette.

Coach is spot on. Parvati is dangerous. And yes, if Parvati decides to snuggle up against Coach in the middle of the night you’ll hear Coach singing a whole different song in the morning. He’ll be walking around proud as a victorious warrior spouting off pearls such as :”Parvati is a really nice girl. I trust her. She’s worthy of warriorette status.” Of course he will. Why? Everybody together now, “He’s a man!”

Leave it to the oldest guy out there to say it best:

Randy: “Survivor, in so many ways, is like the real world. You don’t get ahead by being smart, clever, and hard working. You get ahead, unfortunately, with a pretty smile and being able to schmooze people, and Parvati is the queen.”

RUSSELL’S ACHILLES HEEL

But Russell’s problem is not Parvati. Russell’s Achilles heel is his ego. He keeps saying he cannot stand that Rob thinks he is running the camp. What he really means it that he cannot stand that Rob IS running the camp. If it were only the perception that Rob is in charge, Russell wouldn’t care. It’s the fact that it’s true that has those little hairs on his head standing on end.

Russell: “I’m the daddy around here. Nobody knows who they’re messin’ with. It’s Russell Hantz. Gimme a break.”

If Russell were a leader back in the Roman Empire days he would have been Maximillian I, one of the most egotistical Roman Emperors to ever govern Rome. Maximillian didn’t have the Internet or television to promote himself but he did have the printing press and he used it to share all of his victories with the world. Imagine ‘ole Max on Survivor – now that would be a ratings juggernaut.

Let me say it one more time: Russell continues to miss his single greatest strategic opportunity – Boston Rob. Stop working against Rob and work with him. What’s wrong with you! Rob and Russell together could take it all the way to the end. It’s so easy to see when you’re not stuck in the middle of it.

SUMO IN THE MUD

I love this challenge. We could do this challenge every year and I’d be happy. And if Coach could play in this challenge every season I would never stop hosting Survivor.

But first…

The “Didn’t See It Coming” match: Did anybody actually think Amanda would take out Danielle? That was the biggest upset of the match. A total shocker.

“The Most Exciting” match: Colby and Rob. That was a fantastic match-up. Exactly who we wanted to see go at it. Chalk this one up for Colby. That is how this challenge was designed to be played. Aggressively.

“The Most Embarrassing” match: It’s now official. James has clearly lost his mind. It’s el gonzo. It was the most lopsided match of the challenge. There was no doubt who was going to win. James knocked Randy off with one small push and then…he threw his bag on top of him and as always had to have the last word. “Get your f—ing old ass outta here.” Sorry James but this is where I get off the James train. It’s not that I think Randy is the nicest guy in the world either, but that was just unnecessary and truly ugly.

And now…to the greatest moment of the episode…

“The I Can’t Hear You, Jeff, Because I’m Too Busy Posing For The Camera” match: Coach, you are a gem. You are the greatest. I loved this moment when it happened. I love it even more now that it’s on my TiVo and I can watch it over and over and over and over.

Hopefully you all saw what happened. The rules state that both hands must be on the bag at all times. One of Coach’s hands slipped off the bag and inadvertently helped push Rupert off the platform. A technicality yes, but still an enforceable rule. So we had to play again. But Coach didn’t hear me and went into a 30-second pose down that was absolutely brilliant. One of his best ever and his reaction when he found out it was all for naught was even better.

And here’s something I’ll admit. When Coach flipped me off it didn’t bother me. I understood it to be in the heat of the moment and not really directed at me so much as it was just frustration in general. It could bring up the question: Am I holding James to a different standard? I certainly don’t feel like I am. I feel like James’ attacks have been very personal, but I’m aware that it could seem like a double standard. Whatever it says about me, I didn’t find Coach’s flip-off to be ugly, but as already stated, I think James has blown a gasket.

Side note: Some of you may be wondering about the sit-out rule pertaining to back-to-back challenges. That rule only applies within an episode. Each new episode it starts fresh. Typically we have two challenges within an episode, but not always. So Courtney was able to sit out the last challenge (last week’s episode) and sit out again in this week’s challenge (new episode.) Hope that clears up any questions.

AS LONG AS IT AIN’T ME

She did it in the Pearl Islands and she’s doing it again. Sandra is employing the single greatest and most simple strategy you can have on Survivor: As Long As It Ain’t Me. That’s really all you have to do to win this game – just make sure it ain’t you every single time you go to tribal council. Easier said than done for sure, but Sandra has it down to an Olympic-caliber science. She’s so good at it that at this point she is nowhere close to being voted out. Nobody’s even talking about her. She’s just minding her own business, going with the flow and staying out of the way. I love it.

THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

In an episode filled with fantastic quotes, this was my favorite.

Coach: “There’s nobody out here that’s honorable anymore…except for me.” Admit it, you just laughed when you read it, right? It’s that good.

“There’s nobody out here that’s honorable anymore…except for me.” If I could write stuff this good I’d be taking home an Oscar this year.

The thing about Coach is he wears his emotions right there on this tattooed body for everybody to see. He is clearly upset by the lack of honor but in typical DragonSlayer fashion, he rallies with a quote from the great Martin Luther King, Jr.

Coach: “The greatest measure of a man is not the way he handles times of comfort but in the way he rises through controversy and challenges.”

Now the minute I heard Coach spouting off with an MLK quote I just knew it would be a complete bastardized version of the original. But I was wrong. I Googled that quote and Coach, you were spot on, brotha. Bravo.

AT LEAST THEY GOT THE VOTE RIGHT

The villains made the right move. Randy was the best person to vote out. He said it best, he just never fit in with the tribe and with his already sour attitude and marginal strength in challenges, he seemed the perfect and easy target to vote out. Randy I hope you’re happy and if you’re not happy – I hope you’re happy being not happy.

See ya next week.

  • Victory for People

    Emmy-winning host Jeffrey Lee Probst,
I am trying to save a poor, misguided Survivor fan from spiraling down into an unending pit of of soulless cynicism. This is possible by showing him there is good in the world and that goodness comes from the sultan of snuffing, the vicar of vote reading, YOU!

So let me tell you, this process sure becomes a complicated and precarious process when you agree to answer his questions on twitter and then cause me to consider the remote possibility that you won’t come through. Rest assured, I know you will. This is just a friendly reminder that time is something of a factor, and a “thank you,” letting you know the good you will be doing and how I will enjoy treating your all-round goodness as a victory for you, myself, and all of mankind, and I’ll rub it in his face!

    Thank you

    • Chad

I thought the best quote of the night was when James was told “Told you you were on the wrong tribe!” that was great. I agree with Jeff, I wish Russ and Rob were a dynamic duo and running thier camp. oh well.

      • Paul

Rob and Russell would kill the game.

Frankly, I’m rooting for the Villains to win the show.

I wouldnt mind it if Rob, Russell, or Courtney (not much of a chance there) won the show.

For the Heros the only person I find likeable this game is Colby.

So please Jeff Probst dont let Tom, Rupert, James or JT from the heroes or Parvarti, Sandra, or Coach (even though I find Coach is hilarious) win it for the Villains.

      • Manny

Loved that quote, from Courtney I believe. And she’s right, James is definitely a villain this season. It’s just ridiculous!

Loved, loved, LOVED to hate the Coach moments. I’m sorry, I will never be able to see him with anything other than derision, but he does make me laugh. And I was shocked that he correctly quoted MLK, shocked!

I’m not as certain as you, Jeff, that Russ is being played by Pavarti. I’m sure he loves the flirting and doesn’t mind the cuddling, but would he keep her around just for the body? I wonder…he knows she has connections on the other tribe, however good those will do her, and to me it seems he’s trying to take full advantage of those. If Pavarti thinks she has Russ in her pocket, than he’d be safe to bring to the merge…I don’t know, we’ll see how it plays out.

Never saw Sandra in her original season, one of the only ones I didn’t watch religiously I believe, but I’m taking a liking to her. She reminds me of the police chick in Predator 2 :D Great kick-ass action woman. And I agree that her strategy certainly seems to be paying off.

So is Courtney’s though…I still can’t believe this skinny girl came back for more and is AGAIN flying completely under the radar. I mean, she did prove herself tougher than she looked back in her original season, but still she is soooo tiny! Anyways, I kinda like her bad-ass attitude.

Looking forward to the next episode. And your next blog.

p.s. Might as well ask again, is the immunity idol something that was handcrafted, or you guys just bought off Ikea somewhere ;) ?

      • lana

I felt truly manipulated by this episode. I’ve been a huge Survivor fan from the beginning, back when the editing goals were more subtle. But last night’s challenge was so unfair, so obviously favoring the Heroes…and I think the producers did this challenge because to win you have to be brutish. There’s no question the heroes will win, so the nature of the challenge turns them into villains. That’s so clearly the goal of this season, edit the heroes to seem bad and the villains to seem good. Ah the irony. I hope the challenges in future episodes are more equitable to the players and less about manipulating the viewers.

    • szxcz

Ok Jeff i gonna tell you something.
this season sucks, edition is crap, The Russel Show is old, same people are boring.
and everybody knows the final 3.

      • NC

You have to give screentime to the people who will matter later on in the game while balancing that out with who is vital during the episode… I think they almost gave away too much about the rest of the season during this episode, but that is just me

      • alex

its really not the russell show…is anyone else hiding key materials for camp? that we need to see…really there is less russell bragging this year…in my opinion this past episode became more the pavrati show…but the heroes are so not likable or any good…makes it hard to root for them

    • Greg

Jeff, there’s a big difference between Coach flicking you off and James telling a team he just beat to eff off. Mostly, you’re like the ref who is, usually, outside the game. Yelling at the opposing team you just beat is plain-old bad sportsmanship.

      • Shane

Don’t players get technical/personal fouls when they also go after the ref? It’s the same thing. Jeff, you are DEFINITELY holding James to a different standard. Even though he wont…..JAMES FOR THE WIN!!!!!!

      • Katie

WOW! I am the #1 Jeff fan in the world! BUT, Jeff! What’s up! Damn, Maybe James got tired of losing and to be “quiet” truthful; nothing in the world would have made me happier than to say what James said to Randy! I could not believe that you guys would bring back him or Sandra! Where did you guys get the idea that anyone liked those two? Jeff, man, I love you! I pray for rain. My sister and I sit and drool and I write in every season. I have NEVER missed an episode and this is the FIRST time I have EVER disagreed with you but I am so glad that James beat the snot out of that sorry old (so many words I want to say here!) and that he is gone. Anyway, my point was, maybe James was tired of losing and Randy was just his last straw. Haven’t you ever blown off at someone or something and it really wasn’t that person or thing that you were blowing off at, but if you didn’t blow at something maybe someone close to you would take the blow instead? Maybe it was strategy for him to take his frustration out on nasty old Randy instead of alienating himself from his own tribe! Who knows but give him a break, everybody deserves a second chance and James IS a good guy!
You still Rock, I just think you got this one wrong, baby! Now for the rest of the story:
Well it’s been a lot of good seasons and how anyone can pick one or two persons to cheer for is beyond me. I am so confused one minute I am yelling go Rupt, the next, Go Russel, go Parvati, Go JT, Go James, Go Colby, This is the best of the best and I can’t decide anything until the playing field is thinned out a little! I would have rather see a few people go over Sug! I am just enjoying all my favorites going at it! What a great season! The one thing I can say is GO JEFF! WOOHOO! Every time it rains I get excited!

      • Cindy

@Katie…James is acting like he is on steroids. I imagine the rage is from having to do without.

    • redriding

      hey.

I think Rob should teach survivor lessons. hes so good at it. I just cant believe the idiotic season 13-19 ppl hes playing with. its so depressing. He needs to be with some intelligent ppl! not morons falling for flirts.

anyway I wld gladly be his student :-)

      • Watcher

That’s why he has won so many times. (did I say that outloud?)

      • Josiane

I totally agree with this comment. I hadn’t watched Survivor in years and only came back to it when I heard Boston Rob was going to be on it. So far he hasn’t disappointed but if he’s voted out I’ll be gone faster than the Flash.

  • Kaylin

Hey Jeff!! What happened to the rule about the same person not being able to sit out back to back challenges??? Courtney 2x in a row–she’ll sail under the radar if this keeps up!

    • TErRi

Wow, what happened to James is right? I beleive in Karma so I don’t think he will be in there long. Big mistake not voting out Parvarti and why all the talk about it and not one person did? Thanks for your blog Jeff. Hey Ilonka!!

      • Pete

TErRi, newsflash…It doesn’t matter if you believe in Karma because it doesn’t exist in a game like this. If karma was a factor then Survivor couldn’t even have villains, and they would never be able to win because they couldn’t last until the end. James has already played this game twice being the nice guy. He got burned both times. He needs to switch it up. If he plays the same game then he’s already dead!

    • alexis

maybe you need to re-read the blog

    • davey

Maybe you should read the article to answer your own question.

    • bh

Did you not read Jeff’s blog above?

    • Mark in FL

Did you even read the blog? Jeff answered that question before it was even asked.

    • j

did you not READ the post? He answers that question in the “sumo in the mud” section.

    • Nathan

As stated above thats a per episode rule. These were single challenges in two different episodes.

      • Kaylin

geez, I’ve got it people! one person asking me if I’d read the blog would’ve sufficed! It’s been a long week and I take it has been for you too based on all of you repeating the same thing over and over, wanting to rub it in that I missed something…geez!

      • Icon

        Did you read it again?

      • sdm

Read it one more time :)

      • Mark

I guess people figured if only one person told you that you missed it, you wouldn’t notice. Like you didn’t notice Jeff already answered your question in the blog. MUAHAHAHA!

      • Shel

Well, I did read it and I don’t buy it. I have never gotten the sense that it is only for the current episode. And, obviously, Dalton – King of all that is Survivor lol – didn’t have that sense either. Wish I could go back thru my DVR of everyone season…… ;>

    • Christie

Jeff said in his recap why they let courtney sit out..I figured it out on my own when Dalton Ross said something about it…it was not within the same episode so it didn’t count as “back to back”

    • @Kaylin

Kaylin – he explained it.. did you post a comment without even reading the post>??

      • allie

Hey Kaylin, it doesn’t appear that anyone has addressed your question yet….. just kidding :)

      • Kaylin

        cute Allie!!

      • KNeff

Kaylin…I think you have committed some sort of crime we have not heard of yet…I do believe these people are getting their tribe together and fixing to attach you to a Survivor torch and burn you alive at tribal council.
Geez Loueeze people! I think have blown a James-gasket!!!!!!!

      • KNeff

        sorry…YOU have blown a James-gasket!

    • Nyx

What about the rule of keeping both hands on the bag? I know for the rest it didn’t matter, but still, maybe they could have been out, or something. Though that would make many more out, how do you address that conflict?

      • BP

        What?

  • Dr Zechariah Zenith

That was a good win by the Heroes.

James has becoming a villain and classless too. What a jerk! I liked him previously but he is turning into a Monster.

Randy was right and hit everything but Villains are too dumb to know about Parvati. Perhaps they didn’t show us that Russell seed was in place saying, “I am not going to vote out one of my alliances.”

I reckon Candice is in trouble. No alliances whatsoever and chances are she is gone. I did like her though.

    • James

No one in the heroes tribe is safe. They all have reason to vote the other out. Candice may actually have a shot if she can use the others as buffers. The fact that she knows no one makes her a prime ally. JT is ruining that for her though.
Friggin James man. Seriously. The hell?
Jeff didn’t mind Coach flipping him off because he already knew he had TV gold. Coach man. Seriously.

      • Honor First

Jeff didn’t mind Coach flipping him off because Jeff knows it came from an honorable man.

      • Shel

Jeff didn’t mind Coach flipping him off because it was Coach flipping HIM off. He minds what James is doing because James is doing it to other contestants. However, at least from what we’ve seen, he is focusing on James unfairly, at least in this challenge. ALL of the Heroes, to my mind, were over-reacting (as Coach also did) with each win. I can only imagine how long this challenge really was. The Heroes were all tired of losing the challenges as it was. The Villains are really good at taunting (which is exactly what Randy was doing to James before their battle started). I thought Colby was going to burst a vein after Tom won! lol James did not seem out of line at all with all the other male testosterone roaring going on during that challenge.

    • Ginger

Everyone except for Randy has too much ego to admit Parvati could best them. They see her for what she is Rob, Geri, Coach and even Sandra with during the clam exchange all voiced their issues. Russel has no issue, he sees her for the flirt with friends but thinks he so much better than her. Its all ego and over confidence. Randy is the only one down on himself enough to actually see the other competitors. Poor Randy back at “Loser’s Lounge”, waiting with his told-you-so speech.

    • emily

Never thought I would say I felt sorry for Randy and I DONT LIKE JAMES ANYMORE!!!!!!

      • bren

come on leave james alone u think just cause he is playing the game a kind of way that he is. everone thinks he is bad if u were on his team u would do the same. i still think he is a grat guy so get over it all ready.as for russell that is one that needs too go .he makes the show not worth watching.so u go james i hope he wins.

      • Allison

No, bren, not really. I don’t act as if I’m having a full blow-case of roid rage. And there’s not much about James that is remotely likable anymore. Hoping he gets voted out sooner rather than later.

      • Heidi

James needs to be tested for steroids. Seriously, he is showing classic signs of ROID RAGE. Or maybe withdrawl….
performance enhancing drugs should not be allowed in the game both due to the physical advantage and the risk to others due to psychological factors, namely, rage!

      • paul

Too bad it wasn’t Ben from last season facing James’ rage.

  • TErRi

    For Kaylin-
Side note: Some of you may be wondering about the sit-out rule pertaining to back-to-back challenges. That rule only applies within an episode. Each new episode it starts fresh. Typically we have two challenges within an episode, but not always. So Courtney was able to sit out the last challenge (last week’s episode) and sit out again in this week’s challenge (new episode.) Hope that clears up any questions

    • Kaylin

      Thanks….I goofed.

    • BP

Plagarism is not cool. At least use quotes.

  • Davis Freeberg

You guys are doing another great job this year. I really like how the villians and the heroes roles seem to be reversing. What was the deal with James slamming his bumper at Randy. He really should have ended up on the other tribe. Any chance that we could see more Survivor episodes in the future. I’d love it if you ran a tuesday and thursday game in the fall and then merged the two games after teh holidays. One Survivor episode a week just isn’t enough.

    • Alexis

HEAR HEAR!! It’s Wednesday and waiting all week and now all the wayy until Thursday night is too LONGGG!! We have been watching The Outback: Season 2 all week just to appease our Survivor addiction at my casa!!
This season I’m rooting for Boston Rob to take the Million!! He’s hilarious!
I don’t get your obsession with Coach… honestly he annoys me more than anything. Watching him flex made me gag on my ice cream the other night! Yuck! I hope Russell gets burned by Parvati… it would be the second time that he underestimated a woman and got nailed for it! :) I would just love for that to happen again.
On the Heroes side of things, if Boston Rob doesn’t get to take it then I’d want JT to win. It doesn’t even matter to me that he’s already won because that’s how much I like him. Is he not the most likeable little country boy ever?? Anyways, I’m seriously going to go into withdrawals each week waiting for Thursday night’s Survivor episode. <3 Love you JEff XOXO

      • Marylu

I am taping this season simply because of all the familiar players…I overdid one weekend simply because there was nothing on…just kept watching the villians win and win and win. Love Boston Rob…hoping that he goes to the end!

  • chantal

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!

  • chantal

OMG~!!!!! i cant believe Parvati is still there…why oh why ???? i know it’s early in the game but everybody there knows she is a big threat but heck we will keep her onboard…wowowowowow…

    • Laurin

I agree. I said last night that if the V tribe was smart they would have vote out Parvati

      • Marcus

I agree, too, but if the Villains were REALLY smart, they’d get rid of Parvati and then Russell. The dude is only sabotaging his tribe and his chances of winning by burying the machete. (I did watch 19, and did see Foa Foa come back, so I’m not sure if that same thing would happen, but it just may) That, and I can’t stand him.

    • Alex2000

I hope she sticks around. Love the eye-candy.

      • Kat

I like Parvati but she isn’t as pretty this year. I can’t pick why. Obviously she still has the charm though. LOL

  • Kaylin

Ok, so I wrote my question before I read all of your blog….oops! I still don’t agree with her sitting out 2– and why are the rewards combined with the immunity challenges this time?
I share your disappointment and dislike of who James has become. It’s sad, really. Maybe all the hype went to his head. I’m still rooting for JT, even though he’s already won….love him! and I never thought I’d say this because I don’t really care for her– but I’m rooting for Jerri over Parvati.
I actually don’t really care for either of them but Parvati is just making me kind of sick– laying on the beach all day, tanning. ugghhh
And did you notice who she was snuggling up to at night after Russell told her about his conversation with Rob & Coach?? Boston Rob!!! Was really glad to see her go down in the sumo challenge….and Rob too! that was fantastic! although, even though I’m at a loss right now for Tyson’s exact words, I think he had it dead-on about the heroes tribe and their “insanity” or something to that effect.

    • Mark in FL

I saw Parvati snuggling up to Boston Rob as well and my appreciation of Parvati’s social game when up another notch when I saw it (especially after Rob’s insightful observation). Rob & Russell are both married so they are “safe” targets for Parvati’s social game IMO.

    • Tina

Jeff if you leave Survivor it will not be the same, so we don’t want to hear those words from your lips please! Its like an Oreo w/out the creme! LOL I really don’t think James is being nasty like some have said! I just think being out in that environment brings out the worse in you. Besides look what happen to him being nice last time, he got eaten up! Just want to know why are we not seeing the two challenges this year, as many of us like the two challenges! I wish Russell would swallow that pride of his and work w/Rob but that Alpha won’t give I am sure!

      • Heidi

Russell and Rob would be ratings GOLD but both are too alpha to be able to work together. Shame. They’ll gun for each other and one will be gone soon. I actually think it could be Rob b/c everyone KNOWS the threat he could be to their own future, while Russell is something of an unknown.

  • bh

Why is Courtney even there? Why was she asked to be on the show?

    • lindsay

courtney and tyson are hilarious and have some of the best quips and commentaries of their respective seasons… i really wish we could see more of them instead of the super serious strategy talk sit downs they keep showing. plus, remember that courtney, who is very self-aware of her complete lack of contribution in challenges, got to number two in her season.

      • Mark in FL

I agree, we need more of Courtney. Girl is frickin’ hilarious!

      • Heidi

Did you see Tyson kiss JT after their match? Priceless. Love him and Courtney too, their comments are so great.

      • boycott ellen

we really haven’t been exposed to too much in the way of the tyson gift of gab…certainly not like in his season ..this past week was the most he has said so far…he is infinitely more entertaining than russell’s same ‘ol same ‘ol

    • Allison

Courtney is freakin’ awesome. I still kinda want her to win, despite how insane that would be.

      • paul

Courtney rocks! The great thing about her (aside from being killer funny) is that unlike most other contestants she has no illusions about herself. If they get to the merge I would like to see her flip to JT’s group and ride all the way to the finals.

    • Katie

Why was Sandra and nasty old Randy ask to be on the show? Maybe to give them someone to vote out so the fans wouldn’t be upset!

  • Kimberley

I would LOVE to know if, at Tribal Council, when Sandra said the machete “grew legs and walked off” – which totally cracked me up – did Jeff know or even suspect that Russell had been up to his old tricks?
Also, for the Heroes tribe, having to talk James out of his tree would become exhausting to the point that his brute strength isn’t enough to save him anymore.

    • rroo

I agree. I loved Sandra in her first season and I love her now. She is my pick to win the whole thing. While some might say that she just sits back and lets everyone else do the work it is a strategy that has worked time and time again. And, nobody can say that she is not honest.

      • Zoeysmom92081

Loved Sandra in Pearl Islands. She’s one to keep an eye on. Never underestimate her.

    • Teresa

From where I was sitting it looked like Jeff was looking directly at Russell with a knowing smile on his face. Russell, meanwhile, was sitting there looking for all the world like one of those laughing Buddahs.

    • just me

If you watch Jeff’s face as Sandra said that about the machete, you could see a smirk that was saying “I know what happened to it”. Jeff knows that Russell had something to do with that machete walking away and is loving that Russell is back to his old tricks.

      • davey

Or the editors made you think that’s what Jeff was smiling at :)
By the way, the editors for this show are great! The opening scene where those plants/flowers (whatever they were) were sprouting in time-delay was pretty cool!

      • Sarah

Yeahhh, I agree with Davey. I was pretty mesmerized by the time delay growing plants.. super cool!

      • Kat

I love all the funny footage of little beasties doing startling things. I guess they’ve got a lot of time to notice interesting things on set beause I bet the players are dead boring 60% of the time.

      • BP

Yeah, those are mushrooms. Get outside once in a while.

    • Jules

Well Jeff… was that creative editing that I saw.. or did you smirk when Sandra said the Machete walked off???

  • Dr Zechariah Zenith

    By the way, Jeff.

I liked the blog. How times have change. The Internet surely has make things better and an added spice for Survivor.

From Jeff Probst’s Blog to Ponderosa. They are probably NICE if they are also included in the DVD.

    Survivor Samoa: 100% on DVD

Survivor Heroes vs Villains: 200% on DVD.

If you make them, I will buy it.

I repeat it again Survivor is the Superbowl of Reality TV.

This show keeps revolutionizing the way entertainment should be.

BTW, I hate the Micronesia 4. They should have cut down the slot like Amanda or Cirie out.

    • boycott ellen

don’t worry doc…you get your wish this week

  • WAYGTDAI

    Probst!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!

  • J’S1stLUV

wishing the old james was back, what is up with all that anger. Parvati should be gone… love tonights blog Jeff. oh, thanks 4
answering the question about Courtney’s sitting out on the last 2 challenges.

  • Bluesfan

I just find it amazing that we are in the 20th derivation of this show and yet, when I get to work on a Thursday, I still get that excitement of knowing that Survivor will be on that night. Probst, please stay with the show as long as it airs! It may only be one hour, but it’s always a good hour.

    • subarcticjoe

      Yeah, I second this comment.

Jeff, you come across as not only being smart… but also as being grounded. You have a a genuine interest in people and what makes them tick… you are a true “people-person” and it comes across. This is a gift and is why people really like you. You are definitely a huge asset to the show and I am sure that not only will there will be a drop in viewers if you leave but it could ultimately lead to the end of survivor.

      hope you stay…

p.s. ask Burnett to consider historic and mostly deserted Keno City which is near Dawson City, Yukon Territory area for a June/July location… hot summer weather, 24-hour daylight, beautiful scenery…

      • indycaw

24 hours of daylight would sure mess with their minds. They would have very little concept of time. That could be fun.

      • D

I find it hard to believe “hot” summer weather as described by someone named subarcticjoe.

      • subarcticjoe

You will have to come north to see “D”. The sun is very intense because it is always there… and it can be very hot (and dry) during June/July…. 25-35°C

      • Shel

I agree with both Blues & subarctic – Jeff, please do not ever leave this show. I am sure the Producers have to know how integral you are to the show’s success, but if they are too dim to, please know we fans absolutely know. Especially at TC, your light touch is indispensable, plus your experience doing it for so long now is irreplaceable. I hope I never have to read ever again about the show going on without you…..

    • Aqua Marine

      Bluesfan, can I marry you?

  • M’alice

Hey Jeff, how’d you keep from laughing when Coach was doing his victory vogue dance??
