Ever buy a DVD before the season was even over?

16-and-pregnant-2You know you’ve got a television hit on your hands when two episodes in, the season is already available for pre-order on DVD. That’s what MTV’s doing with season 2 of 16 and Pregnant, the phenomenally popular show (the Feb. 16 season premiere drew in 3.4 million viewers) documenting the lives of several girls who are SPOILER ALERT 16 and pregnant. Every Tuesday we meet a new girl — like this week’s seemingly sweet Nikkole from Michigan, whose insignificant other I am convinced is a sociopath. He berated her during labor, ditched her at homecoming, and attempted to make her choose between him and her mother. Oh, yeah, plus he cheated on her. What a catch! And it looks like the season’s only going to get better – according to promos, next week we finally get to watch Valerie, who will yell into the phone at her boyfriend, “Just like, get it through your head – we had sex, A LOT!”

A lot of revenue could come from pushing the DVD early, so it’s not surprising that MTV is capitalizing on the show’s success. I have a feeling the top buyers are going to be parents and educators, since the show really is the best birth control this side of Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. It’s on sale for $26.99, and Amazon guarantees that if the price decreases between your order time and the release date, you’ll get the lower price. PopWatchers, will you buy 16 and Pregnant knowing nothing else about the rest of season 2? Which seasons of which other series did you know you wanted on DVD before their TV runs were even over?

“Kings”- The Complete Series. It was still airing Season One and a pre-order went up for 25 bucks. I ordered it and it dropped down to 22 before shipping. When it got OFFICIALLY announced the price jumped to 45 dollars, but my pre-order guarantee saved me.

Not sure if this counts, but I borrowed the first disc of Arrested Development from the library, and then ordered all three seasons from amazon. After seeing two episodes. Even though Arrested Development is #38 on stuff white people like, I can’t get enough. (http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/01/29/38-arrested-development/)

I would buy “Lost” and “Mad Men” because I know that they will not disappoint. But I’m too disorganized to pre-order anything and tend to just buy it when I see it in the store. “Hey, I didn’t know this was out already!”

Gilmore Girls, season seven (final season). Turned out to be the worst season of the series. I now pretend it ended after season five.

I see no reason to buy 16 & preg when it’s practically all they show on mtv. But, I do watch it and love it!
