Agreeing with everyone about missing Phillippe Candeloro- loved his Godfather program where he was dressed in all black.
ohhh! The godfather routine! That was awesome. Men’s skating today is SO boring. Especially Plushenko when he’s not jumping.
The military style outfit Brian Boitano wore when he won the gold medal in the Battle of the Brians
i agree on philippe candeloro. he was the perfect package! but johnny weir needs an honorable mention. brave and dramatic and bizarre!
I don’t understand why these costumes are all so ridiculous. Why can’t they wear something even slightly relatable? And that skin colored fabric is the worst.
That picture is actually one of the better ones, most of the time it’s just outrageous.
It’s a shame you guys in the US didn’t get to hear the Canadian tv commentary during the pairs short program. David Pelletier went off on the Russian pair for their skin-tight blue outfits. It was hilarious. The guy was made for tv!
One of my favorites all time has got to be Kurt Browning’s Casablanca costume. You just can’t go wrong dressing like Rick.
Only one person above mentioned Toller Cranston in passing. He deserves credit for every other outfit mentioned. Is anyone else old enought to remember the crap he took for his then-”outlandish” costumes. They deducted pts from his skating becuase of it. He was the real hero. (and a fabulous skater to boot). Yay for men’s figure skating – way more exciting than the women’s IMO.
I always liked Viktor Petrenko too. He was stylish without being over the top.
I loved Brian Boitano’s 1988 military outfit and most of his outfits, actually. He never went too crazy. Worst has to be Alexi Urmanov’s “Swan Lake” monstrosity, complete with wings and white covers on his skates. Horrible! And I want to know what is up with the freaking GLOVES this year?? Every guy was wearing gloves.
Yagudin’s ”The Man In The Iron Mask” costume the year he won the Olympic gold.
Agree with you all – does anyone remember a skater named John Currie? He of impeccable costuming and wonderful lines? Robin Cousins also pushed the envelope during his time.
