It occurred to me today as I read a glowing review of Susannah Gora’s You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, and Their Impact on a Generation, that this is a book I would totally buy while on vacation in Cape May, N.J. and never actually end up reading. At least, that was my MO with What Would Murphy Brown Do?: How the Women of Prime Time Changed Our Lives. Am I the only one who buys books on pop culture that sound perfect for me but go unread? What’s gathering dust on your shelf? Maybe another PopWatcher can give you the necessary motivation (or guilt-free pass).

I really want that Hughes book. I have yet to read I Am America and So Can You by Stephan Colbert, although I really want to.
get the audiobook, read by himself – it is AWESOME.
I have bought books b/c everyone is reading them and have never read them.
My list includes:
The DaVinci Code
The Devil Wears Prada
Open Veins of Latin America
But I have read:
Both Chelsea Handler books (so damn funny)
PUSH by Saphire (i cried so much)
All 7 Harry Potter books (amazing)
I know these arent pop culture books but i thought id share…lol!
Dont waste your time with Devil Wears Prada…rare case of the movie being much better than the book
Follow Kelly Clarkson on Tiwtter!!!
@kelly_clarkson
Yeah, KELLY FAN, I’ll get right on that. . .
I bought the Devil Wears Prada, but couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters. I currently have the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, but have yet to start reading it yet.
Don’t. It sucks.
I agree with MO! It’s not worth the effort. And believe me it was an effort to finish it.
The Revolution Will Be Accessorized has been sitting on my shelf for about 3 years. Sadly, it’s not moving anytime soon.
chronicle: volume one, by bob dylan. i bought it the week it came out (years ago) and still haven’t read it. no idea why…
Yep! Borrowed that from my Mom about 3 or 4 years ago!
Bought it a year ago and still haven’t read it…but I really want to!
I bought Atonement and I keep pushing it back on my reading list. I will read it eventually though, I swear.
i have Dan Browns latest book on hard back next to my bed since i bought it in the UK on vacation last September unread, even unopened!
Eat, Pray, Love
‘Team of Rivals’
Um, most of these aren’t pop culture books.
Anyway, I’m totally looking forward to Chelsea Handler’s books but haven’t read them yet.
Not sure if any of you were lucky enough to experience Amy Sedaris’s book (er, cookbook?) I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence, but it’s one of the wackiest, creepiest, funniest things I’ve ever seen.
I have ‘Secret Life of Bees’ and never read it nor have I seen the movie.
America, by the Daily Show staff. And that was five plus years ago.
Oh, but it’s so funny!! And actually, as someone above mentioned for Colbert’s book – the audiobook is amazing, so you might even want to try that instead. I got it because I was involved in a long distance relationship that required an 8 hour drive, and I can’t tell you how that audiobook made the time fly!
But anyways, the book does look really intimidatingly cluttered when you open it up to scan through (that turned me off it for a while) – but I promise, it really is worth reading and it doesn’t take long to get used to the textbook style format.
I buy and start all of Oprah’s Book Club books…and never finish them. But I can’t seem to reconcile myself to the fact that I will never apparently LIKE any of Oprah’s Book Club books…
Pictures at a Revolution by EW’s very own Mark Harris. I don’t want to read it until I’ve watched all five movies that the book talks about, but I never get around to doing so, and so of course I have yet to crack open the book.
