'Lost' as seen through the confused eyes of non-'Lost' watchers

I tried to watch an episode of Lost while visiting my parents house last year and my mom walked in and did the “who’s she?” Read the full post.

That was really funny. It reminds me of that old game show where they asked little kids to explain what they thought words like “mortgage” and “layover” meant.

OK i thought it would be a laugh to see what the newbies made of the show, but it seems that they are less confused than me! ok they didnt have to deal with others, time-travel, tailies, jacob, and a shirtless saywer (one way to addle my brain)its so not fair!!

Me and my brother are both obsessed and spent our entire summer trying to convert all our friends. Haters usually turn to lovers when they watch from the beginning. One of my friends finished all five seasons in just 3 weeks.

It’s all about the DVD box-set. My friend Brian and I have gotten almost all of our friends turned on to Lost with the DVD’s. Just as long as they are caught up by the finale, which trust me, they will be, we’re fine.

I have now gotten 7 people addicted to LOST. And two of those people have themselves addicted 2 or more of their friends. So, I’ll claim responsibility for 10+ LOST fans. LOL.

I always give them the dvds. Explaining the show doesn’t work. Ever. I *can’t* explain LOST. No one can, really. It makes sense if you watch and pay attention. I have never failed to get someone addicted when I have given them the dvds.

I’m obsessed with Lost. But you know what? That doesn’t mean that I have a clue as to what’s going on, or that I even want to. As Ken Tucker put it best in his review, Lost is a show best left to “wash over” the viewer. The acting, the gorgeous cinematography, the incredible writing, the rich, textured storylines, and the music, which is one of my favorite elements of the series. Just gorgeous, sometimes haunting symphonic creations. What would Charlie’s death scene have been like without the “life and death” piece? Juliet’s fall into the abyss without that incredible, tense melody?

Those that obsess on getting answers are really missing the beautiful show that Lost is. On the basis of artistic merit in its totality – as piece of artwork, not a journey to the end, no show on TV has ever rivaled it.

As someone who’s never seen a Lost episode in her life, I was actually able to follow pretty well with the hour-long recap special they had before the season 6 premiere. And I gotta say I was pretty into it.

My dad has watched EVERY episode of LOST with me and it still took us like 3 hours to go through it because he kept asking questions…I cannot imagine someone who has never seen it because he was mega confused lol

I refused to watch Lost because of the all hoopla. A week ago, I finally gave Season 1 a shot. I am now on Season 3. I’ve become a total Lost addict, to say the least. Hopefully I’ll catch up before the finale!

My mom and another friend of mine decided were convinced to watch the series because of all the season six hype. They did it through the box set dvds. It was hard for me to keep my mouth shut when they would ask some questions and I would just have to keep saying “be patient” over and over again. Sometimes I would point out and explain some of the easter eggs or when another castaway was briefly pictured in another scene but for the most part that’s all I did. I wanted them to have the same excited and anticipatory experiences that I have had throughout the series. I also referred them to some of the more popular LOST websites but there really isn’t enough time to catch up on them and the videos. If they offered up a theory, then we would discuss it but I wouldn’t say if it was right or wrong if I knew already. I’m just glad I recruited a few more viewers who really enjoy the show. Too bad they weren’t around in some of the earlier seasons when they had the university, join dharma, find 815 games, etc. Man, I’m going to miss this show. I haven’t been into a show like this since the X-Files. I’m ok with being a nerd about this.

Forgot to mention that my husband, on the other hand had initially started watching it and was into it but when it got into theories and thinking too much he pretty much stopped. Now sometimes he watches it and is “lost” of course. He’s a nuclear engineer and certainly no dummy but if he can’t get it right away then he’s not interested. I think it’s because it combines the abstract with the logic and a lot of people have difficulty reconciling one over the other. Use you entire brain to watch the show!

“Now, is that a racist depiction of a local?”
