Here it is, PopWatchers: the first look at Ellen DeGeneres sitting at the American Idol judges’ table. Hard to judge the judge yet, since this clip is so short — but do you think her “that was something else” comment was praise or put-down?
Who’s excited for Ellen’s debut, and for the start of Hollywood Week on Tuesday?

meh.
“meh” is stilling happening? 2010? Really? Still? Wow.
You know, commenting isn’t mandatory.
As for Ellen, I’m sure she’ll be as good as anyone else on the panel. Any idea why they’ve switched seats?
Yes, “meh” is still happening. Sorry it is too passe for you, Mr. Cutting Edge. I think “meh” sums up my feelings on Ellen being a judge nicely actually.
And really is still happening Joe? Really??? Still? Wow!
How’d that shot at being snarky work out for you, Joe?
Snarky is still happening TJ? Really? Still? 2010? Wow.
I’m tired of people who use “really,” in the form of a question as a way of expressing dislike for something.
Really?
Terri, I’m sorry, but your use of “Really?” here is correct, so you failed to get under cream rage’s skin.
BTW, it seems “Seriously?” is the new “Really?” as a way of expressing disbelief at something.
Seriously hit before really. Remember a little show called Grey’s Anatomy that used seriously for every other sentance in its first two seasons?
why don’t you idiots start commenting on the content of the article and keep your stupid jabs to yourself.
meh YOU joe.
Sorry to get off topic…but I can’t wait to see Ellen!
Ha! Good one Emma.
“meh” is timeless, joe. not all language and culture are passing fads (or as you might say, it is stilling o.k. to use the word)
Joe: “Would you like to go out with me?” Woman: “Meh.”
Too short to make any kind of impression.
It was a put down. She did her comedic pause in there–so short you can miss it. But if you’ve watched her stand up for as many decades as I have, you recognize that teensy pause.
Excited for both. God knows, Ellen would have to work really hard to be of less value at the judge’s table than Randy and Kara already are. At least she will probably use coherent phrases.
I’m going to be watching Lost.
Lost and American Idol won’t be on at the same time.
um, wrong.
WOO DVR I’ll be watching both!
Um, ACTUALLY, they won’t be on at the same time. Idol goes against a repeat of the previous week’s Lost. The new lost goes up against Past Life on Fox. Check your local listings.
What about after Hollywood week, when the performance nights are two hours long? Won’t Lost be airing during the second half?
MEH for sure!! Ill go insane if she has to do that “im scatter-brained” skit every time at the judges table… there isnt enough time for four judges, we saw that last year… now add Ellen’s comedy stutter into it. The show will have to be 3 hours… MEEEEEEEEEEH
Ellen is a professional comedian-talk show host. So she should be fine.
yup, glad I stopped watching AI a looong time ago.
But when will you stop posting on message boards and blogs about it?
I have never seen so much sarcasm on a blog as this one! I have to say, it makes me laugh, and a bit sad, all at the same time.
The death of American Idol.
still shaking my head over Ellen as judge of a singing competition!!
even EW interview asked everything but the obvious–what qualifies Ellen as a judge? i guess next they’ll bring on Peewee Herman to replace Simon!!!
Ellen is a highly successful entertainer, and like it or not any successful musician must be an entertainer too. Ellen knows about the pressure of living up to standards and fans’ desires, of dealing with publicity and agents and paparazzi, and she has musicians on her show constantly. She knows what it’s all about.
Most of which, really, is true of any World Series of Poker winner. So it doesn’t mean much.
I had the same reaction when they announced Paula as a judge.
Right on Harry – Ellen is really bad & now they have3 men & 1 girl – Poor choice on Ellen -hopefully they won`t show her wife – talent is so bad I can`t watch Ellen critique the show`s contestants – last year for her hopefully.
I have really missed Paula this season. She was so unappreciated. This is ridiculous.
You’re so alone on this one. I don’t notice she’s gone unless she’s mentioned. She added nothing.
She’s not alone. I loved Paula’s sweetness and goofiness. It’s just not fun to watch any more.
Nope! Not alone. I miss her too. This is a really negative set of comments here. Is it cool to hate now?
Oh yeah I completely forgot about Paula. i never disliked Paula like a lot of people did, but i honestly havent thought about her at all this season. i do feel a bit sad about that cause she has always been a symbol of Idol to me, and Idol is like…a tradition.
Paula who?
I miss Paula too.
from the look on simon’s face when ellen says that was something else, i’m guessing it was a put down
I agree-no smile or anything
I love Ellen and think she will be great on this show. I can’t wait to see her.
Can’t see the video in Canada. Damn it
don’t fret, it’s about five seconds long. It’s just Ellen jokingly putting a contestant through for saying “ellen i love you,” and then snidely and sarcastically telling someone “that was something else”
