'Cake Boss' gets third season: M'mm m'mm good!

TLC has hired hire Cake Boss for at least one more season. And in response to this incredibly wise move, I’ve decided to craft a “Congratulations” out of an imaginary piece of modeling chocolate for my pal Buddy Valastro. (P.S. He’s only a pal in my dreams. My tasty, sweet dreams.)

After all, I have been a fan of Buddy and his Hoboken, N.J., staff since I watched them create an epic recreation of New York City out of cake, modeling chocolate, and rice crispy treats. And then there was their recreation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa — not to mention their ridiculously sweet take on Dylan’s Candy Bar. How does he do it, PopWatchers?! (Well, he actually tells us how — another reason why I love him — but that doesn’t make his creations any less impressive.)

In fact, Buddy’s creativity so inspired me that I attempted to make spaghetti and meatball cupcakes for the birthdays of my mother and boyfriend late last year. (Thank you, Hello, Cupcake!, for the recipe.) And, just in case those didn’t turn out well — and, as you can see below, they didn’t — my family decided to purchase a birthday cake from Buddy himself at Carlos Bakery. And I can tell you that eating an entire piece of that beautiful cake (see below) was the best 2.1 seconds of my life.

Who else is happy that Buddy’s coming back? And have you ever picked anything up from Carlos Bakery? Or have been inspired to make your own inventive cake-based creation?

I LOVE Cake Boss. Buddy is so creative and talented. He also had the brains to hire talented people. My teens and I enjoy watching the show. Sometimes the practical jokes they play on each other seem to get more attention than the cakes, which is a little tiresome. The sisters drive me NUTS!!

It’s just Mary that drives me nuts. lol But it’s great because it shows the family aspect of the bakery. I know my sister drives me crazy sometimes, too. Looking forward to a new season!

I LOVE BUDDY. His style, his creations, are so awsome. My family and I run home after work and school, just to watch the team. I love the jokes, they play on cousin and Anthony, and espcially Mauro, Frankie, and rest of the guys. You guys really make our Monday nights exciting.

My sister lives near Hoboken and she ALWAYS takes guests to the bakery for dessert! Seriously best cupcakes EVER!!

    Buddy’s a fat, self-absorbed guido.

:( no he’s adorable! For his anniversary, he completely reconstructed the top of their wedding cake for his wife! It was soo sweet!

That show is horrible. TLC tried to capitalize on Ace of Cakes, but all they managed to do is make a completely contrived show with a very unlikable lead character.

I don’t wish them bad, but they’re just not that innovative. And I get tired of listening to Buddy yell at people for not executing his vague descriptions to his specifications.

I agree, I have always considered Cake Boss to be the low rent version of Ace of Cakes. Duff’s creations are much better and his staff is far less irritating.

actually i have watched both and i find buddy to be more creative has, more talented staff and his cakes are much nicer to look at. ace of cakes is out dated and boring.

It’s Food Network from the Jersey Shore. Thanks for more brainless trash tv

Just watched this for the first time this past Monday and LOVED it. Will definitely set the DVR for the season. He gets a little obnoxious at times, but beyond that it’s great fun to watch the work that goes in to those fabulous cakes.

Oh, and the spaghetti and meatball cupcakes? Great effort, but so very sad.

I like Buddy and the guys, but please no more scenes with sisters. They are nails on a chalkboard, and one of them is just plain mean.

Wow, I guess prejudice against Italian-Americans is alive and well on this message board, “bets.” And “Lesley T,” the Jersey Shore is south of Hoboken.

Buddy is a genius and just looking at his cakes demonstrate his abilities as a baker. With family bakeries so rare these days it is nice to see the success of this show. Kudos to TLC for renewing it.

I think your “spaghetti & meatball” cupcakes are adorable!

love Cake Boss, but I do get a wee bit tired of the sub-plots though. No disputing Buddy’s talent – he does beautiful work and the modelling chocolate sculptors rock!! They are super talented!

  • movieloversmatch

    I love it too!

Duff over Buddy???? Are you serious? Duff has zero personality. I like Buddy because he’s a simple guy with a good heart and a hysterical and loving family. I regularly record Cake Boss and look forward to more adventures with the crew!

What gets me about all of these cake shows is that none of the decorators wear gloves. How many fingers are on those “edible” figures that are carved and molded? Eating one of those is the equivalent of having ten people stick their fingers in your mouth. There are even hands all over the fondant. Lifting it off the roller, putting it over the cake and smoothing it on the cake. Decorators touch doorknobs, car doors, high traffic areas of bakery downstairs and then touch cake surfaces. Yuck.

Dear cake boss I like the way you make you’r cakes the best one I liked more is the race car that came out HOT and I was wondering if you make cake in virgina becuase I would like to order a cake.
