The Secret of the Kells totally deserves the nomination. I was hoping it would get it, but I didn’t really believe it would.

Saw Kells and I can tell you, animators loved this film for its visual bravery and obvious love of the makers for the subject matter. Moore said he wanted to plumb the depths of Irish mythology and although he made the story with mainstream appeal (it is pretty straightforward) it still transcends the formulaic Disney 2D while being more accessible and family friendly than Triplets of Belleville or Persepolis. It’s a wonderful film and fully deserving of the nod, moreso than several others in the category.
