I think Amanda Seyfried and Anna Kendrick are very talented, so I hope they do a lot more work over the next decade.

  • Ana Mascarenhas

    Kristen, absolutly

  • krystal

kristen stewart is amazing in everything sans twilight. that movie doesn’t help anyones acting career. and kristen stewart has already been around for a while as well as evan rachel wood. i dont see them dissapearing anytime soon. seyfried, kendrick, and mulligan are rising stars with serious acting chops and will go far.

keep in mind people that we don’t know what happens behind the scenes. it’s entirely possible that several women of color were asked to be in the photo but either refused or were not able due to scheduling conflicts. the girl from slumdog millionaire would also be a logical choice for the cover, and may well have been asked. i’m reminded of the cover from a while back that had the nude scarlett johanson and keira knightly with tom ford. rachel mcadams was also supposed to be in the cover but dropped out at the last second, which is why tom ford was thrown in instead. the fact that nine women made it on the cover likely means that 20-30 were approached to be. and if by some unfortunate circumstance all the women of color originally asked say no, do you find another one for diversity sake even though the backup choice may not actually reflect the title of the shoot, or do you just go with what you have? it’s not an easy decision, but i would rather the editors of the magazine stick with the theme than include diversity just for it’s own sake.

How many of you who are whining about only white women in the pics have actually contacted Vanity Fair and register a complaint

    • @Shamrock

I wrote a letter to the editor immediately after I saw it. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

    • Shamrock

Good, someone who will back it up

    • Megan

I just wrote a complaint and Im glad I did!

    • you suck

I wrote a complaint about Shamrock to the Greater Douches Bureau. But they were already tracking him.

who wants to bet that they’re gonna ghetto nine black actresses on a separate cover? “Special Issue Africa/Haiti” or something
And they wouldn’t even see the racist statement that one would make. In fact, they’re gonna think themselves sooooo liberal, and that such a thing would be terribly helpful and non-racist, while in fact, it is TOO racist.

    • Celia

Out of curiousity…who are these 9 “ghetto” actresses that you speak of? I want some names?

      • Barack van de Kamp

This is soooooooo NOT the point of what we’re saying.
Out of curiosity, do you think you’d know any of them?

Let’s see: the cast of Girlfriends, Keke Palmer, Rutina Westly (True Blood, oh, you don’t get HBO?) Rae’Ven Larrymore Kelly, China Shavers, Megalyn Echikunwoke, any of the actresses on The Wire (oh, you don’t get HBO?), Tessa Thompson to name but a few…

      • Celia

I misread your comment. I know most of the actresses you just named (i’m sure I could lengthen that list) and I DO get HBO.

      • mari

celia, just ignore barack van de kamp.

      • krystal

please note these are actresses they believe will raise the bar in 2010…. and although ive heard of those actresses, none of them are worthy of note for 2010. all it takes is one big movie.. An education, Vicki Cristina Barcelona, Up in the Air, Alice in Wonderland…. you catch my drift. and none of those girls are in anything highly acclaimed. Sidibe is the only girl they missed the ball on.

    • A

Kind of like the Miss Black USA Pageant.

  • Vetinari

    Mindy Kaling.

  • JackBauerEnthusiast!

While that VF cover is looking a little cloudy this time around. I honestly haven’t heard of half of those girls and the ones I have heard of most of them have virtually no talent, with the exception of Mulligan, Stone, and Wasikowski. Kendrick was good in Up in the Air and I heard she gave a great performance in Rocket Science.
Other than that, this cover is as lackluster as they come. Blah!

  • ann

Stewart? Please, she’s the worst actress of the bunch.

    • jenny

Did you and some critical? The true critic praised it in Welcome to the Rileys and the runaways for your information.

    • Barack van de Kamp

I agree with Ann, she’s just got one expression on her face, really annoying. And she’s just not …. that hot. I won’t say ugly, but … bland.

      • laney

KS knows how to mumble and do a blank stare. That’s about it.

  • Buzz

Sure, they missed including WOC, but also other nationalities than just American and British… There are lots of excellent young actresses without US or GB passports…and if any magazine`s readership would be open to reading about them I would think it would be Vanity Fair`s… unfortunately most foreign actresses and their movies rarely get a toehold on the screens of the world as their movies aren`t tied in with the US film distribution situation… maybe someday that `wall`will fall too!

    • Suzanne

Mia and Abbie are Australian – not Bristish. BIG difference!

  • plum

    very very very white.

Vanity Fair: still can’t put colour faces on their cover. shameful.

    • Jenn

I know — a little blush would help.

  • Mel

Kristen Stewart She’s a great actress had a great performance in the welcome to the rileys and the runaways.

    • Pe

I would venture to guess that you’ve actually seen neither.

    • Celia

I’m going to have second that guess.

    • Barack van de Kamp

me three! She s—-ed like vacuum cleaner on steroids.

      • laney

        LOL BvdK

  • Jasmine

Yay for Carey on the cover, LOVED her in An Education. Have loved Kristen Stewart in everything except Twilight which is an acting vortex, and she just got rave reviews for both Runaways and WTTR, so yay for her! Anna Kendrick was a force in both Rocket Science and Up in the Air. Yep, Carey, Kristen, Anna my fave three, and really excited to see Mia in Alice in Wonderland. But Amanda Seyfried? What critically acclaimed work has she done? The other 7 have all had critically acclaimed stuff

    • Shamrock

She better not screw up The Runaways.

    • krystal

mamma mia was the top grossing film world wide. and she got rave reviews for chloe, which she plays some sort of a sex bot. amanda seyfried is probably the most versatile of the bunch, considering every single role she plays is different

    • KM

She gets great reviews for her role in Big Love.

  • nina

I am sooooooo happy to see Mulligan on the cover, she broke my heart in her film. She is sooo talented. I do expect her to have a great career.

  • Juniper

Carey Mulligan and Abbie Cornish both had excellent movies this year – “An Education” and “Bright Star,” respectively – and Anna Kendrick was very good in “Up in the Air.” Twilight was absolutely awful, but Kristin Stewart was very good in “Into the Wild.”

    • krystal

Kristen Stewart is in this probably because of what she did in Sundance last week. all the critics loved her and said she carried both movies respectively, as well as her costars

      • laney

Of course her costars aren’t going to say she sucked. Hollywood always defends and lauds their own. It’s how they keep working. No one wants to burn bridges.
