'Parks and Recreation' gets a third season: More Ron and Tom, please!

NBC announced Friday that the ratings-challenged Parks and Recreation has been picked up for a third season. And I announced Friday that I will be doing my dance of joy — Parks and Rec has been unstoppable this season, thanks in no small part to the amazing combined powers of Aziz Ansari and Nick Offerman. Tom + Ron 4eva.

Ansari’s star seems to be rising really quickly on the heels of his fantastic stand-up special, while Offerman’s heavily-mustached Ron Swanson has become the show’s undercover funniest character. Yes, Amy Poehler has come into her own this season (this scene alone could be her Emmy reel), and yes, Aubrey Plaza’s disaffected April is nine kinds of hilarious, particularly when she’s trying to hide her crush on Chris Pratt’s Andy. But it’s breakfast-enthusiast Ron and the newly divorced Tom that provide the best lines of the show: “Our marriage was always a complete disaster, but we did have…that. The two of us. It’s like doing peyote and sneezing slowly for six hours,” for example, from Ron. Or: “I have never taken the high road. But I tell other people to ’cause then there’s more room for me on the low road,” a Tom classic.

I am over-the-moon about another season of Parks, PopWatchers. I’m hoping for another guest run from Louis C.K. You?

I didn’t really think much of this show until I saw the beauty pageant re-run and Aubrey Plaza had me on the floor laughing. She reminded me of my sister so much that I made my whole family watch. We now have to record it as it has become our favorite show to see together. I am glad they are getting a third season and I plan to catch up on the older episodes.

    YES!!!! Thank you NBC!

I don’t know exactly what they did, but between this season and last, they turned P&R from a lame rural Office clone into it’s own thing, and now it’s one of the funniest shows on the air. It’s worth watching for Ron and Tom alone.

Yeah, I think this show has really hit its stride. The first few episodes were not that great, but now I actually enjoy it more than the Office or 30 Rock.

Glad it got renewed. Maybe Jeff Zucker can come over and shoot me in the head!

I agree totally, although I may be one of the few who really like P&R from the very beginning. Ron’s deadpan delivery is hilarious. Just loved it the other night when he brought his own deviled eggs over to the party and then made it clear they were ONLY for him. Small joke, big laughs for me.

Parks and Recreation has turned out to be the funniest show on TV behind 30 Rock. I’m not sure what’s happening with The Office though. It’s been a lame year for the writing staff there. GO P and R

Chris Pratt should get credit too, I pretty much die whenever he says anything.
