If you haven’t heard about the film I Love You Phillip Morris, starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, don’t read Owen Gleiberman’s excellent take on it from 2009′s Sundance until after you’ve watched the trailer below. It’s one of those previews that — whether or not the movie turns out to be great — makes you ask What the? repeatedly. And therefore, everyone should experience it unspoiled.
How many times did you say What the?

Incredible its men actually kissing! And falling in love! I personally am so shocked and asked myself repeatedly, what the???
Dont be so shocked Scott! What i did think What The for is that this so 2010, 2 very succesful mainstream Hollywood actors having a go at a gay movie. But actually the trailer doesnt even seem like a gay movie.
Yeah, I don’t really know that I was shocked. All I know is that it’s the first Jim Carrey movie that looks really interesting since “Eternal Sunshine”, and that movie came out more than five years ago.
agreed (as usual)
Sick, just freaking sick. Who greanlit this piece of @#$%?
Chad – it is greenlight you dumb redneck!!! I hope your kids turn out gay!!!!
Scott, I think the What The? question posed by Mandi isn’t about the gay thing but the quarky weirdness of the character, other than his gayness. I think it looks kind of awesome. I agree with Ceballos.
OK, I’ll say it also, WTF? I’d have zero interest in seeing this, but I’ll give Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor credit for having the balls to try it. Pun intended.
But what I really found freaky is that according to the subtitles on the trailer, Gay translates roughly to Homo in French? Really? That would get some tongues wagging in PC America. So to speak…
We french people shorten words that are too long a lot, so Homo is just short for homosexual, quite an old fashioned medical term. the most neutral word for it. Gay is also used a lot but it just has the american twist to it. bad words would be mostly pédé, short for pédéraste. I could think of another 3 dozen words.
Norwegians say homofile
Just as an FYI – this movie is based on a true story. The true story is prob more wack than the movie could even come close to. The script is based on a series of articles in the Houston Press. You can still find them online.
I don’t see any thing wrong with the trailer. If the subject amtter bothers you don’t go see it. We have had Ocar winners like Milk, which I haven’t seen, Kiss of the Spider Woman, which I haven’t seen, Movies like Brokback Mountain which I haven’t seen…get it? Jim Carrey may get me to see this movie, but I may wait for the DVD and not influenced by Golden Globe wins
