The Grammys is known to have a more pizazz-filled dress code than most awards shows and last night’s opening act—a magical duet between Lady Gaga and Elton John—was a perfect example of the ceremony’s love for all things crazy. In the Grammys opening number, John and Gaga joined forces at the piano, but not without some lavish costumes. John took the simple route in a Giorgio Armani tuxedo, while Gaga donned a shoulder-heavy green glittery costume custom-made by the designer. But you’d better believe that John, the original master of fantastical stage garb, wasn’t about to let Gaga have all the fun. So he joined the sparkle parade and accessorized with totally nutty, but totally amazing Swarovski-encrusted glasses, also custom-made by Armani, that probably caused some vision discrepancies.
Creating the tricked-out shades must’ve been a cinch for Armani, who seems to count Gaga as a muse of sorts. “We hear Lady Gaga’s music everywhere we go,” he said. “It is like a soundtrack of our times. In addition to her formidable songwriting skills, she is a modern fashion phenomenon.”
Being a friend to all things shiny, I would totally rock these sunglasses, so long as I don’t have to actually see anything. Would you wear them?

i was sorry to see elton john stoop to this level. hate me if you want, but i find much much much more substance in elton john than lady gaga. that said, i liked it better than her other performances due to his appearance.
How long have you been an Elton John fan ? His early shows make Lady Gaga look boring…admittedly she has a long long way to go to match his music career,but she is off to a pretty good start…

I agree Ramsey. Too Bling? Not by a long shot. Those glasses were tame by early Elton standards. I have been a fan for much more than 30 years and the costumes were as much a part of his show as they are of Gaga’s. I enjoyed the duet and you could see that Lady Gaga was a fan of his to. She has a long career ahead of her.

Elton John has had over 30 years, and from what I hear HE wanted to work with her and backstage her argued for a completely private rehearsal with her.
And seeing the pics of them together after the show of them smiling and playing around just adds to my point.
You don’t need to trash talk Lady Gaga, whose only 23 to Sir Elton who has an extensive amount of credentials. Both are amazing at what they do and there is NO NEED TO ANTAGONIZE EITHER OF THEM.

I saw Lady G on Saturday Night Live and afterwards wondered what the hoopla was out. The only thing special about her is her costumes. Costumes doth not talent make.
At one point during the opening duet, Lady Gaga ripped her sunglasses off and flung them to the side. Were they bothering her vision? Hurting her? Anyone else see that?
I replayed that on Tivo and it looked like they fell off her nose and in front of her mouth. Immediatly after she fling them off her face, she turned and looked for them like she realized she just threw $100k on the ground and wanted to account for them. Probably on loan and she just realized she broke them.
The Lady Gaga/Elton John duet was the first time I ever heard LG sing. Like my parents with the Beatles, I dismissed her because of her appearance. Check out some of her solo/acoustic stuff on YouTube. She can sing and her piano is getting better. At 23 she has an amazing career ahead of her.
