The news burning through Lost fan nation at this very moment: the first four minutes of the two-hour season 6 premiere, scheduled to air on Feb. 2 (four more days!), have been posted online. Apparently, a fan won a contest, got the clip, put it up. If you really want to watch it, you can do so here. May I offer a suggestion, though? Don’t do it. Just be patient and wait until Tuesday and watch the opening sequence in the full context of the whole story. I think atomizing the premiere into little packets of spoilerific info for the sake of hyping where absolutely no hype is necessary is just dumb.
I have to think it’s not the way the producers or the cast wanted to present their work to their fans — especially since it appears the clip basically resolves the biggest cliffhanger from last May’s finale. I also think this strategy risks inviting over-scrutiny and therefore bad buzz. For example, the first thing that came to my mind watching the clip was… well, do you really want to know? Seriously? Last chance to look away. My first thought was [SPOILER ALERT]… “the airplane looks too small.” Is that a fair criticsm? NO! That’s just a big fat nitpick. But based on what I saw, that’s all I got. Small airplane–and too much information. [Here's my second thought: I loved Rose's line "You can let go now." Methinks that's what the whole season will be about, thematically speaking--for the castaways, and for us.]
So please, do yourself the favor and don’t do what I just did. Don’t peek. Just wait. You made it this far. You can wait a little longer.

As much as I’m dying to see the season premiere of “Lost”, and as much as I’ve missed this show…I’m waiting until 9 p.m. on Feb. 2. I want the entire experience in one sitting and the way the people behind the show intended for us to see it. I actually read every word of your post up til “SPOILER ALERT”
PS: The so-called fan who won this incredibly great prize and decided to betray the trust given to him by posting it online deserves to get pounded the way the Monster pounded Mr. Eko.
I know it’s not likely the case, but I hope that clip is fake.
They knew this was going to happen, it’s an unfair criticism. There’s hardly anything spoiled and you waited 8 months for it, it’s not like you have another 8 to wait.
If anything, I like a lot of people couldnt wait and already found this tiny bit of info on a spoiler site months ago. It’s like spoiling your christmas present by looking at the size of the box..there still could be anything in there.
According to you, the producers knew AND fully expected this contest winner to post this online.
So basically what you’re saying is that the people behind “Lost” went out of their way to NOT include any new footage in their promos for season 6 (other than that fleeting shot of Claire with a gun) and not divulge any details (other than casting news) for eight whole months only to have some fool put the first four minutes of their season premiere online a few days before it airs.
Sorry, but I just don’t follow you. From what I’m reading, it seems like the clip doesn’t really spoil anything, but I still don’t get the point. I mean, do you honestly think the producers wanted this clip to be posted online because they need the publicity?? Name me one single “Lost” fan who doesn’t know that the premiere is Tuesday night.
And, again, I’m not slamming people who look at spoilers or anyone who watched this clip – that’s totally your prerogative.
I’m probably just hopelessly old-school – I like to go into something (especially the final season of one of my favorite shows of all time) as fresh as I possibly can because I want to be surprised.
It was all a dream, lol
I don’t know why anybody would call it a bummer. Nobody is forcing you to watch the 4 minute clip. If you don’t want to be spoiled, than don’t look at the video. It’s not that to do if you self control.
the reason it’s a bummer is that some d-bag decided to abuse their winning status by posting the clip for mass consumption
Again, they KNEW this would happen. They’re not dumb, that’s why they waited 3 days to deliver the USB keys.. Not to mention they never said they couldnt do it. To complain about the guy sharing his prize is false loyalty. They’re doing a service, whether you like spoilers and not.. and if you do like spoilers, then you already know a lot more about the Smoke Monster, and a lot more about the well being of some people. I’ll leave it at that.
As weird as i am, i advice you not to WAtch it.
ps. i like to taste the crust on my eyes.
I guess I don’t see why people are acting like this is a big spoiler.. what the hell else could it possibly have been? It’s exactly what you pretty much knew would happpen and not a damn thing more.. and no one even knows if it’s really what happens, they have false intros all the time.
I watched it. I’m a Spoiler Ho Junkie. I can’t see your post, then not click the link to watch the vid! Why’d you post this?!
I gave in, not really a big deal though. Nothing we already didn’t know unless you have managed to stay completely spoiler free all offseason, and don’t even know what the title for episode 1 is. If you know that, then there are no spoilers.
“The airplane looks too small”
I thought the exact same thing!
Honestly, watching it didn’t make me feel like I was getting spoiled. Nothing they can throw at me storytelling-wise can really surprise me anymore, and despite the repercussions this may have on the flow of the story, I’m honestly more concerned with the fate of Jacob, his Nemesis, and the (ancient) history of the Island. All the sci-fi/time travel/alternate universe really just feels tangential to the core mythology after season 5.
My thought — his haircut looks wrong.
Apparently when you change the timeline it also changes your hairstyle
First thing I thought too.
Hair and make up have always been a problem. Despite being a fantastic show, the wigs and haircuts were done poorly throughout the whole show.
If this was not intended to get out, why does it end with a big “Lost: The Final Season Starts February 2″? Was that in case the fan who won the clip didn’t know?
excellent point
*averts eyes* I’m not looking; don’t want any spoilers. *hands over ears* la la la la la la la la
I want the whole experience; waiting for Tuesday!
“especially since it appears the clip basically resolves the biggest cliffhanger from last May’s finale”
I couldn’t possibly disagree more. There were essentially two possible consequences of the bomb’s detonation: 1) it does what Faraday said it would; 2) it doesn’t, and everyone on the island, including almost all of the show’s main characters, die. This basically told us that it was number 1. Gee, what a shock!
gee, if it was number 2, it would be a really short SEason 6. I knew people would survive because that’s the only way the show could continue, otherwise we would get a whole season of Nikki and Paulo episodes.
My theory: Rose and Bernard become the black/white on the island like Jacob(white) and the guy in the black shirt-who obviously became Locke in order to find a loop-hole to kill Jacob. It’s a Yin-yang deal. They are opposites, but will bring peace to the island/pergatory.
Wrong! Think outside the box…the show will play out for a while in 2 dimensions. Losties back home, losties on Island…but one timeline.
I’m not so sure that the Producers and ABC didn’t anticipate this when they decided to hold a context and give away a digital copy of the first few minutes as a prize. Unless they’ve been in a hatch, they knew this was going to happen. And it hasn’t been taken down from YouTube yet, either.
I agree. ABC knew this would happen, which could possibly mean that we are all in for a BIG surprise. We don’t know what happens after that 4 minutes, so we could look at the clip and be thinking we have it all figured out and be thrown for a HUGE loop in the next minute after that initial clip ends.
Also, LOST is a show I watch and re-watch all the time because it is so dense with story that watching the first 4 minutes doesn’t bother me at all–it takes nothing away from it. It’s just like having a 4 day commercial before the next scene.
I completely agree with you. I don’t think this gives anything away because it could mean anything.
I’m going to take your advise Doc and not watch it. I am still debating on whether to go down to Waikiki tonight and see it on the big screen at the Beach. Lots of people who went when they did this for Season 2 premiere said that they had a hard time hearing it with all the noise from the crowd.
And then Rose dies of cancer.
Doc, you put me in an untenable position. You say “don’t watch the clip,” and I understand what you mean and intend to avoid it. But then you go ahead and give your thoughts. Well I can’t read your SPOILER ALERT thoughts unless I watch it, can I? And I want to know what you think. So of course I had to watch it. If you’d just held off on sharing your those thoughts until after 2 Feb, I wouldn’t have peaked – I swear!
Doc says don’t watch it, but has a link to the clip. I know I shouldn’t have watched it, regardless if it is what really happens or not. The show should have aired in January. Sweeps week caused this FUBARD clip
