'Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains': Candice says that 'being a hero is kinda cheesy'

Of course when she said that to me in Samoa right before filming on Heroes Vs. Villains, Candice Woodcock was pretty sure she was going to be on the Villains tribe. And with good reason: Candice is most famous for mutinying off her own tribe in the Cook Islands. Probst’s defense for making Candice a hero (which can be seen in the video below) is that Candice’s mutiny maneuver was a heroic move to get back on a team with the people she loved. Okay, but that runs completely contrary to the way Cook Islands was edited and presented, when Yul, Ozzy, Becky, and Sundra were the abandoned underdogs who had to overcome tremendous odds after being left for dead by Candice and Jonathan Penner. In fact, Cook Islands was an underwhelming season until we finally had people to root for and against, and make no mistake, back then Candice was being presented squarely in the “against” camp. But here she is a hero? Doesn’t make sense, but there you have it. [Good news and bad news for Candice, and exclusive on location video after the jump.]

However, whatever tribe she is on, Candice has the advantage of being one of a handful of contestants (along with Danielle, Coach, Randy, and Sandra) that other players don’t appear to be concerned with in the least. That’s the good news. Here’s the bad: “I don’t really have anyone that’s an ally here,” Candice told me. “Maybe people think I’m friends with Parvati, but that’s really not the case. And I was voted off early and I don’t really go to all those Survivor events so I don’t really know these people.” The fact that Candice seemingly has no allies is a definite negative when you consider all the people that have friends watching their back. Like most others, Candice was concerned about a particular power trio: “I think James, Paravti, and Amanda all have an alliance from Micronesia, and I think they’re dangerous.” No one ever accused Candice of not being astute.

All in all, Candice is not a super dynamic personality like many of the others, but as her mutiny proved, she’s not afraid to make a big move. Should the opportunity present itself, would she consider mutinying again? “It would depend on the circumstances,” she answers. Doesn’t everything? If you missed our first eight, there are links to Cirie, Boston Rob, Sugar, Randy, Amanda, Tom, Danielle, and Coach below the video. Up next tomorrow: Samoa‘s ultimate villain, Russell Hantz. Cirie says she’ll win because “I’m a gangsta in an Oprah suit.”

Shocker! Boston Rob says, “I don’t see how I can lose.”

Sugar wants a showmance with J.T.

Randy claims it’s “under the radar time”

Amanda insists “I’m gonna be a bulldog this time. No apologies, bitches.”

Why the hell is Tom Westman back?

Is Danielle Russell’s new Natalie?

Can anyone take Coach seriously?

She doesn’t seem like she even wants to be there. Which is too bad because: a) she actually seems like she knows what she’s doing, and b) they could have brought back so many other people instead of her.

  • Ell

yea I don’t even know why she’s back. There are plently of other worthy people.

  • jack hart

    boo !! .. i hope she’s voted out 1st.

  • West Coast Probst

They got the people they wanted and then decided to fill in the blanks with people who look good in a bikini.

I love her! For those who don’t like her; she was a big character in CI — she was the girl who got the most screentime (yes, more than Parvati), and the season really went downhill after she got voted out.

If it wasn’t for the string of (suspicious) twists thrown in by the producers to prevent the PR-nightmare it would have been for the whites to come out on top in a race-divided season, Candice would have had a great shot at winning.

She’s also a great person outside of the game — she’s been in Africa doing charity work. She’s a med-student as well.

I like Candice and I definitely think she deserves this spot. She was a big character her season unlike Danielle or Tyson.

Some of the choices for this season are just ridiculous. They must have been having trouble getting worthwhile people to come back. Anyone else notice that in many cases “heroes” is a euphemism for “stupid”?

    • RDP

I can name a few worthwhile heroes, but casting probably wouldn’t give them the time of day.

      Mutiny is mutiny, Jeff.

I really liked her in Cook Islands. She deffinatly knows what shes doing, and for all the stick she took about mutinying, people forgot that if she had stayed on her tribe, she would have without question been next voted out if they had lost immunity. She would have been a dead cert for the final three if Yul’s alliance hadnt undergone a freak run of results, and I respect that she was willing to make a move that should have benefited her, even if it pissed off some of the others. I think she’ll do really well this season.. I see her teaming up with Amanda, and people who team up with Amanda tend to win :P

Actually Candice was apart of Yul’s final three pack. Had Aitu lost both of the immunity challenge it would have probably been Ozzy, Penner and Sandra (The 2 people, one council twist.).
But tell me how would Candice have benefitted from mutinying? Even if Raro didn’t get their ass kicked, you have 4 jury members who can’t stand her and another 4 jury members bitter about the all white F4. Let’s face it there was NO reason whatsoever besides spending time with that D-bag Adam.
As for this season, I don’t see Candice doing well. I feel that the mutiny will come back to haunt her and in a season based entirely on previous actions and such a strong physical tribe there is no reason to really keep her. My bet is her or Sugar are the first hero to go.

  • orville

I would have rather had Penner back than Candice.

  • J

Utterly forgettable contestant. Why would they bring her back?

  • ludwig

at least shes better than sandra or sugar. but as usual the women thats cast in a all star season is found lacking. where is CORINNE?

    • John

I’m really glad Corinne isn’t on. She tried WAY too hard to be villanous, but in reality she’s just a skanky bore.
A poor man’s version of Jerri.

  • Avery

Candice is an interesting choice because, aside from mutinying, she did nothing. She was a delight to have on the show but there could have been better girls. I don’t want to sit here and say (or rather, type) about what should be, but Peih Gee (China) and Natalie (Micronesia) would have been great choices. This truly is going to be an excellent season and I am so psyched that I’ve probably watched the interviews a billion times on cbs.com

    • Robert

PG definitely worths a comeback (not because I’m Chinese too), but she played really hard and smart in her season (although I didn’t like her attitude to screw up Aaron, but mostly that’s the twist’s false). And she’s definitely one of the strongest fighter out there.

  • Winston

Definitely a smart cookie. I remember her adamantly performing the mutiny, weathering it out at Exile multiple times and the PDA at the Tribal she got voted off. I hope to she will be just as entertaining this time around.

  • Robert

Hope she and Cirie could look out for each others’ back and form a powerful duo.

  • SurvivorFreak

I’d much rather see Candance get a SECOND shot at Survivor than any of the THIRD time repeats. I’d like to see all the third timers, even though some are my faves, get voted out FIRST. Probst said he had 80 contestants to chose from and he brought back 9 of 20 for the THIRD time. Why not bring back Mike Skupin or Terry Dietz? They were great heroes who have never had a SECOND chance.
