Last night's 'American Idol': Guess which contestant was once signed to Jive Records?

Hey, fellow American Idol fans! Want to hear more from last night’s Chicago auditioners? Well, you’re in luck! We’ve scoured the Web and found previously recorded music by some of the musicians, as well as some interesting background information about one blink-and-you-missed-him hopeful. Without further ado…

Keith Semple: Sadly, a Fox spokesperson confirms that Semple did not attend Hollywood Week due to Visa issues. But if you watched TV in England circa 2002, you might have already seen the sensitive rocker who performed Bryan Adams’ “Heaven” in front of Shania Twain & Co. Indeed, the guy spent a few months on the tube while starring on — and winning — the U.K.’s Popstars: The Rivals. (Think: American Idol meets Making the Band.) Boy band One True Voice was created out of the show, and, after signing with Jive Records, the act debuted its first single, “Sacred Trust/After You’re Gone,” (embedded below) which became a hit overseas. One year later, the band broke up, and Semple journeyed to the states to head Chicago band 7th Heaven. To hear some of Semple’s solo music, go to his website.

Katelyn Epperly: The singer and recent victim of a broken home had her own band, Katelyn & the Bruises, prior to her successful audition. According to the group’s Facebook page, the folk-rock band was “the product of a little bit of free time, summer air, and friends.” Hear three songs on the band’s MySpace page.

John Park: The dude who made Shania sweat last night belonged to Northwestern University’s respected a cappella group, Purple Haze. See him perform Christina Aguilera’s “Come On Over” with the group here.

Paige DeChausse: You can find music from the soulful songbird in several place on the Web: Not only does her MySpace page boast a cover of Norah Jones’ “Turn Me On,” but several videos of her performing with band Chicago Blues Angels are posted on YouTube.

John Park is such a dork…I doubt he’ll make it very far.

    • Kate

He did not seem like a dork to me. I think he was just a bit overwhelmed by all the attention. I am looking forward to seeing him again.

    • Kev

I listened to Keith Semple site and he is fantastic! Too bad his Visa kept him from being in Hollywood. He would had made it. I was shocked at first because I remember Adam Lambert saying you couldn’t be signed to any record label inorder to be on Idol, BUT then I realized he was signed as a group…….so I guess that wouldn’t qualify as a single? Doesn’t matter he couldn’t be there……..too darn bad too.

      • FLGrl

You can’t be CURRENTLY signed to any record label.

    • Kev

John Parks is not a dork and he is going to be in the top 12, just wait.

  • sbwm

John Park could be the new Anoop – another fellow from an a cappella university group.

  • Kristen

Okay, that Keith Semple thing’s a little ridiculous. If you’ve already been the WINNER of a television singing competition, you should not be allowed to be on Idol.

    • gerritv

Too bad the winners were saddled with this piece of fluff. Real loser song but a nice video. They sound like ‘Up With People’.

    • Chichi

Then we wouldn’t have Allison Iraheta and that would be CRIMINAL!

      • Sarah

        Exactly what I was thinking!

  • J from Chicago

This show was a lie! If you watch the video, it shows palm trees and an Orlando convention center. This was not Chicago. Fox manipulates its video for its racist purposes. Fox’s agenda doesn’t let the truth get in the way!

    • darclyte

The Chicago episode aired Tuesday night, which is what they’re talking about. Tonight’s episode was in Orlando. The rest of your comment doesn’t even deserve a response as it’s completely off the rails.

      • Spike Lee

What do you know?! You ain’t black!!!

      • Kev

And YOU are? You are not even the real Spike Lee so get a life moron!

  • darclyte

Keith shouldn’t have been allowed as he had been signed to Jive Records since that is part of the AI family of record labels. It doesn’t matter now thanks to his Visa problems, but regardless, like the gal last season who had been “Annie” as a child and was an acquaintance with some AI producers who got DQ because of it, this guy would have had to be DQ’d as well to prevent any appearance of impropriety.

Just checked out the youtube account of John Park’s a capella group- I’d recommend watching “Falling Slowly” where he’s a featured soloist if you actually want to get an impression of him. He’s definitely stronger in his lower register and it shows here, but I think he has potential to do well.

    • wakeforce

Boring song! Good performance from Park, though.

      • Idol Fan

Ha ha! Kris Allen sang this song last season.

  • Harrison

I’m ALREADY working around the clock!

  • Janizzle

I like John Park! He seems like he might be the next Anoop…but hopefully with a better personality! As for Keith Semple, I didn’t like him too much, so I honestly won’t miss him.

  • Suzanne

I really liked Keith Semple. I wonder how he would have done. He had a really light voice during his boyband days but he’s stronger now. He’s got one year to get his visa straightened out.

  • Suzanne

John Park–the thing I like about him is his baritone. American Idol is a who-can-sing-the-highest competition. He has a beautiful low voice. It will be great to hear that–what a great break. And I think he’s more talented than Anoop. (Sorry Anoop.)

  • Idol Fan

I love John Park and I hope he goes far. Also hope he’s more talented than Anoop.

Being from the UK, I remember Keith from Popstars the Rivals. The band was made up of 5 amazing singers but were given terrible songs. One of the other singers (Daniel Pearce) missed out on a live show place on the UK’s X Factor in 2009 because Simon wanted to give someone else a first chance. I think it was wrong, yes both Keith and Daniel have had a chance, but as a band and just like Simon chooses the songs for the winners of Idol, Pete Waterman chose the songs for Keith’s band therefore ending their careers before they even started. It should be what the public want to listen to rather than whether they’ve already had a chance (in a band).
Shame Keith had visa issues I would have like to see how he has progressed.

I know Kieth vaguely. I’m friends with a girl who often performs with 7th Heaven when they do acoustic shows and I am friends kind of with his (now I think Ex wife…I haven’t talked to her in awhile but her FB page doesn’t say semple anymore so no clue) and Keith is a TALENT! He brings in crowds with 7th Heaven and I can tell you if he was able to go on he’d have been a HUGE hit with the show….I know for a fact he isn’t signed to any label or else he wouldn’t be living in Chicago doing cover bands haha! He’s smart and talented and really a nice guy!!
