Former 'Idol' contestant Ayla Brown campaigns for her dad

Former American Idol contestant Ayla Brown, who was among the top 16 in season 5, is on the campaign trail today: Her father is Massachusetts state Senator Scott Brown, who’s the GOP’s candidate in the state’s tight senate race. Alas, he is not actually Elvis:

I doubt this has any real sway in the race, but still, who doesn’t love a good Idol where-are-they-now story?

Scott brown isn’t Elvis, and he isn’t quite Burt Reynolds, either…

We in MA are not looking for Elvis. We want a senator. You mix politics and entertainment WAY too much.

Ayla says the Idol producers were prepared to paint her as a spoiled rich kid until they discovered she can actually sing quite well. I believe Vote for the Worst made a post about her latest music project, which also acknowledges she’s a really good singer.

During her stint on AI Ayla struck me as being highly intelligent and highly motivated. As I remember she was also talented in sports as well as academics.

I have always remembered this performance – not because it was a great version of the song (it was okay), but because it actually introduced me to the song in the first place and I really like it.

Me, too–I had never heard “Unwritten” before Ayla sang it, and now I think of her every time I hear it.

I actually own her CD Forward and pop it in my car often.
