'Tekken' trailer lives up to its genre

Filed under: Movies, Videogames and tagged: , ,

In the grand tradition movies based on fighting games, Tekken looks huh-huh-horrendous.

If the phrase “people’s choice” seems repetitive in the trailer, how will it fare in the full-length movie? Also, where was Kuma? Bring me the fighting bear, Tekken movie!

All the actual fighting looks good, but color me less than impressed, PopWatchers. What about you?

Are there no good movies based on video games? it hasn’t been done before it won’t be done now although for the life of me I don’t know why…disney managed to makes a billion dollar franchise out of a lame theme park ride (i.e Pirates of the Caribbean)

On the plus side, looks a lot more faithful to the source than Dragonball or Street Fighter.

      Thats a plus?

Come on, there have been a few good video game movies. The Resident Evil films may not be the best written films in the world, but they are damn entertaining. Mortal Kombat works as a guilty pleasure, Street Fighter with Jean Claude Van Damme is another guilty pleasure, Street Fighter II The Animated Movie is a very solid film, and the first few Pokemon movies are enjoyable (if only because they remind me of my childhood).

I’ll give it up for the street fighter animated movie…but live action….not really

-The only way any videogame movie can work is as a guilty pleasure, it seems. But there is still something inherently bad about them. Tomb Raider was decent as well, but no one really calls it a good film.
-As a Resident Evil fan, I can say I hate those movies.

Looks like crap. But guys it has Luke Goss!!!!

  • Steve

it even has the dude who played shang tsung in the original mortal kombat movie in it. tekken looks to be another craptastic effort.

If Neil Blonmkap directs Halo, then there will be a great video game movie.

  • Rob Grizzly

    *sigh*
For REAL Tekken fans, go find the ’97 animated movie. Weak animation, but a very good, cohesive story.
    As for this, this…’thing’…
I can’t even gather the thoughts to complain about everything I saw wrong here. I’ll just say that games-to-film need to be taken seriously and it’s sad that still isn’t happening. Mortal Kombat remains the best, Silent Hill the most faithful. Fighting games in particular are hard because they don’t have one real narrative. Street Fighter, Dead or Alive…they aren’t designed for plot, they’re designed for fighting. Tekken had no chance.

The first Mortal Kombat was not THAT bad. There have been okay video game movies like Silent Hill, Resident Evil one, and the first Tomb Raider. This looks pretty craptacular but the fighting looks good. So what next? Shinobi?! lol.

Did I see Kevin Federline in that trailer?
