I was very entertained by how cleverly the MASH references were interwoven: the chem-set distillery for the martini, the hawaiian shirts, the Radar-ness of Abed, and the last freeze shot of Brita’s expression. Good ep, not great. I love Community!

Jack Black, aka one trick pony glue, has destroyed something I love. (Cut to scene of his death in Bruce Willis’ The Jackal.) Even if the writer gave him something he wouldn’t have delivered it with the same smoothness as the rest of the cast. The title sequence was funny but not because of Black. And the cheerleader scene was AWE-SOME. And it could have been something anyone (ANYONE) else could have imagined… even Shirley. So we’re all in agreement: no more Black. I meant Jack Black not the colour.

Is it possible we’re reading too much into the “spoof of over-hyped guest appearances” theory? Even if that was the case (and that might be giving them too much credit), Jack Black’s scenes were so painful to watch that any joke that might have been there got killed.

Loved Senor Chang’s triumphant return, though. He’s still my favorite part of this show.

Am I the only person who seriously hurt himself laughing after,
“THIS IS A MAN WHO CANNOT BE KILLED!”?
Because that, and the accomanying exchange, makes up what is perhaps my favorite scene in the series to date.

The episode was great and Jack Black was hilarious. As far as I’m concerned JB can do no wrong.

Jack Black was pretty hilarious, I thought. He was a big reason for a few of the best scenes in the history of the show.

Abed and Troy together are the highlights of the show at this point, although I usually like Annie as well. Jack Black’s guest appearance was pretty dull and useless, but it did introduce a generally entertaining plotline (that was mostly hindered by JB’s over the top antics). The minor note of Pierce’s “ironic T-shirts” was one of the minor highlights of the episode for me as well.

I think the problem was bringing in Jack Black to play Jack Black. I think the writers could have easily written this better if they weren’t trying to write Jack as Jack.

If they hadn’t made it about a celebrity joins the group, and changed it to a celebrity playing a college student joins the group, I would have liked it more.

But that said, the good in this episode, was really good.

I loved this episode. Was I the only one in stitches after Annie said “I hope you’ve got an army of raisins ‘cuz I’ve got a major scoop!”? I peed my pants a little at that! Loved the MASH references, too; and finally – the lemon bars JB made & Pierce ate (“could use a little sugar next time”) – freaking hilarious, you guys!

I think Jack Black’s character, Buddy, may be a human representation of the gay rights fight in California.
Buddy has always been there. Buddy was in the group, then he was out (when the group members voted him out), then he was in again.
Gay people have always been there. Gay people in California had the right to get married, then didn’t (by the people voting their rights away on Prop. 8), and soon, via the current supreme court case, they will have equal rights again.
At the very end, Buddy gets into the “cool” group making Jeff and the gang feel guilty for voting Buddy out. This may reflect a rejection of the Prop. 8 voters, who will feel guilty for having voted to deny people’s equal rights.
    Dan Harmon is clever.
