Sigourney Weaver's 'SNL' will air at 2 a.m.... just kidding just kidding just kidding

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

Sigourney Weaver and Bill Hader attempt to make light of the NBC late-night situation in the promos for this week’s Saturday Night Live. I’m surprised the Avatar star (and serious actress from Ghostbusters) is not smoking a cig and wearing a Stanford University crop top here. Well, not really. Maybe there’s a skit for that?

OMIGOD that opening sketch about the late-nite wars was stone cold DREADFUL

  • Ceballos

Every year, I feel like it’ll be the year that I don’t find Sigourney Weaver hot anymore…nope, still pretty hot!

What I meant to say is, I’m there.

    • paige

she was sssssssssmokin’ in “the ice storm”

      • Ceballos

Word on “The Ice Storm” (it’s been too long since I’ve seen that movie).

Not to mention the fact that she had the, um, chops to play the boobalicious actress at age 50 in “Galaxy Quest.”

      • paige

        mmmmmmm galaxy quest…

    • Lisa

You are sooo right, Ceballos! LOL :) She still looks incredible for her age!

    • Everton Carter

      Never gonna happen.

      • Ceballos

I’m getting that feeling Everton…and I’m more than ok with that.

Women in film owe a debt to Sigourney Weaver. Before ALIEN, women in films were relegated to playing the wimpy “help me, help me” character but AFTER Sigourney kicked that alien’s butt, capable women in action films was born. She was smarter than everybody else, beautiful and tough as nails. Thank you, Siggie, for Alien, Aliens, Gorillas In The Mist, Copycat, Dave, Avatar, and so many more. What an actress. What a dame. Bravo.

I think she knows about NBC screwing people over – I think they pushed her dad out of the news division. I believe he was one of the people who created The Today Show.

    • Heather

You are right on both. If you wiki Sigourney Weaver there’s a link to her dad.

    • Heather

And apparently he created the Tonight Show as well (or the predecessor anyhow).

      • Paul A.

From The Museum of Broadcast Communications website (http://www.museum.tv/eotvsection.php?entrycode=weaversylve)
“He developed certain programs such as Today and The Tonight Show to provide vehicles for this practice.” He also changed the paradigm from having mostly sponsor-driven (and sometimes sponsor-produced) shows to the current model where advertisers buy commercial time slots in network-produced shows.

Am I the only one that thinks she kinda deserves an Oscar nomination for supporting actress for Avatar this year? It was a very powerful performance in a popcorn movie.

    • Ceballos

I thought she gave the best performance in the movie, so I wouldn’t be against this. I mean, I suppose they have to find four other people to lose to Monique from somewhere.

      • k

        lol… you are soooo right.

    • paige

sorry i have to disagree… She was fine in the movie but an Oscar nomination in a category that is full of excellent performances, is just out the question

      • Ceballos

I’m not saying it SHOULD happen. I’m saying that almost every year there’s a performance (usually in the supporting categories) that comes out of nowhere and gets nominated for an Oscar. (Something like Ethan Hawke in “Training Day.)

The “Avatar” Oscar-love tidal wave might sweep her along. Also, Weaver’s never won an Oscar and hasn’t been nominated in a while and seems to be VERY well respected in the industry. I’m not saying a nomination is going to happen or that it should, but there ARE some ingredients there.

    • Madd

I thought she was great (as she is in all of her movies), but if anyone deserves an Oscar nom from Avatar it’s Zoe Saldana(sp?).

  • Stephanie T.

Annie do me a favor and stop promoting Kristen Wiig. She is not funny. Seriously. And yes is right, Sigourney’s father was one of the founders of the Today Show.

    • GoMe!

      ?

  • mark in nyc

those clips were funnier then anything that has been on SNL this year.

  • cv73

Yes, Sigourney’s father, Sylvester “Pat” Weaver, created both Today and Tonight. How perfect she’s hosting this week of all weeks.

  • Lindsay

Oh my goodness, I totally lost it when they started running in circles. Hilarious.

  • MsSuniDaze

Sigourney Weaver is awesome. She can take any role and make it belivable. From Comedy to Action. She’s beautiful and feminine and can kick alien ass. Haven’t been watching SNL lately, but will tune in for her.

  • Randi

Sigourney and Bill Hader look related!

  • Emma

It’s a sketch, not a skit. Skits are something the student class government does to remind you about prom. Sketches are mini-plays done by a Sketch Comedy Troupe.
    Thanks.

    • jabo

Be careful everyone, Emma has joined the Internet Grammar Police. BFD

  • Madd

I can’t believe this will only be her second time hosting!

  • skitsketch

a stik is a sketch. a sketch is a stik. a stik is a sketch. a sketch is a stik.

say that 5 times. could drive you, well, somewhere.

  • skitsketch

well, where are the grammar gods?
(lol! i meant in all cases up there to say sketch is a skit, a skit is a sketch, etc. how funny.

  • hochelaga

I’d say I’m glad Avatar has put some gas in her tank , career-wise, but actually she’s going places without polluting *nowhere* nohow!
