Mel B takes over 'Dance Your Ass Off' - who will miss Marissa Jaret Winokur?

The news has emerged that Mel B is now going to host Dance Your Ass Off, replacing season one host Marissa Jaret Winokur. I know it’s not a case of “heavier host gets pushed aside for nameless skinny host” — Mel B certainly brings star power, Spice Girl fans, and honed dancing skills to the job. But I, for one, will miss seeing Marisa as a great curvy role-model herself in all her fa-fa-fa-fabulous sparkly outfits on the show. Winokur’s rep tells People that it was a mutual decision for her to leave the show — partly because of the format’s lack of interaction with the contestants and partly because of “criticism she received from producers regarding her appearance.” Executive producer Dan Cutforth told People that Mel B was a better fit with Oxygen’s core audience.

So what do you think, should a weight loss dance show have a curvier host or can anyone fat or thin do the job just as well?

“criticism she received from producers regarding her appearance.” ? On a show called “Dance Your Ass Off?” Wow, new corporate media lows….

I didn’t like her as a host. Her delivery was wooden and boring. It was as if she had no personality at all. Maybe Mel B will do better.

      i agree.

I don’t know what happened. Maybe she’s too busy thinking about her baby boy. But for someone who had loads and loads of likable personality on Dancing with the Stars, it seemed Marissa was just not “feeling it” on Dance Your Ass Off. I can understand how it can be difficult to host a dull premise work, but you’d think someone with all that energy and similar experience would be less wooden. Or at least she could have experimented more with the wooden lines they wrote for her.

Nobody cried out when Allison Sweeney replaced Caroline Rhea on ‘The Biggest Loser’…I think the host should be a little more fit than fat…

If you are going to host a show where overweight people are working to get slim then the audience is going to expect the host to reflect that. Same for Biggest Loser.

Nobody cried out when AS replaced CR cause CR was a terrible host.

If it’s poking fun at fat people – a skinny host who’s never been overweight in her life. If it’s really about getting in shape – you want someone who’s been through it.

Do we know the producers were after her about weight or style? She does need a bit of a fresh make over, I love her but that Jersey mall hair is a bit outdated

Marissa was great, but she really did not have any personality. When someone was voted out, she literally kicked them to the side and smiled at the person left standing. It was very sad and I felt sorry for her and the contestants. Even when she would show up at their living space to introduce the next big challenge, she just seemed to be standoffish, and I felt she really envied what the competitors were doing. Perhaps it will be best that she and the show part ways. It was a great show, BTW!

i enjoyed Marissa’s perky personality throughout the first season. however, during each episode i couldn’t help but think that she would benefit more as a contestant, than as host. but i guess with Hairspray 2 on the horizon, she can’t risk losing the weight now.

I feel bad for saying this but everytime I would watch DYAO I wold look at Marissa and go “Is she gaining weight each week?” I do feel like a show about people who are struggling with their weight should have a host who can relate, but they should also have a host who can be an inspiration to losing the weight and keeping it off. Unfortunately MJW lost weight and looked great on DWTS but hasn’t been able to keep it off. Unfortunate reality of hollywood. But with that being said I think Mel B will be a great host I just hope I can understand what she’s saying. And I know she put on about 70 pounds with her last pregnancy and was able to lose it and keep it off so she very well may be a good inspiration to the contestants after all.

I like Marissa, but as host of this show I think she could have been more of a role model too. I have lost 131 pounds so far and it more inspiring to talk with others who have been there or are doing that weight loss effort. Does Mel B. have or has had that problem? I would find her harder to believe as the host> Get someone from one of the weight loss programs who is on the journey too.

First of all as a person who’s been throught he weight loss programs, i think the host should be someone who’s been there. You couldn’t find no one in shape other than Mel B please give me a break. Your best bet would have been an unknown thats what got my attention for the first season. What the heck is Mel B known for than Spice girls and Eddie Murphy baby mama w/drama

I will not watch the show without
Marissa. I thought she was a great host. I just think she needed to lose weight which I heard she did 30 pounds. You made a bad decision when you took her out.I don’t care about your show any more.

Watching the premiere of season 2 w/Mel B. as I type on Oxygen. She’s got sparkle…a bit more so than Melissa. Go Mel! By the way, I think Dancing With the Stars made a HUGE mistake by passing her by.

Mel is a BORING host. Her voice is soo monotone. Bring back the other bubbly chick hell she can lose weight with the rest.
