'The A-Team' trailer: A-okay?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

This trailer for The A-Team contains every possible action-movie cliche you could cram into one coming attraction. (Of course, this is an A-Team movie, and diehard fans wouldn’t have it any other way.) Plenty of quick cuts, a lame joke, over-the-top orchestration, explosions, a tiny pause to startle you into paying attention, and of course, an awesomely awful tagline. “There is no plan B,” PopWatchers! I assume they mean emergency contraception.

Yep, that’s District 9‘s Sharlto Copley rocking a drawl as Murdock.

Okay, wrongly convicted PopWatchers, are you on Team A-Team? Or is the lack of Mr. T a deal-breaker?

I actually really liked it. Over the top action is definitely the A-Team, and I at least know that I’ll like it for Sharlto as Murdock.

    • Stephanie Tanner

I agree, I just hope they don’t focus too much on Jessica Biel/Bradley Cooper and spread the story on the main 4 guys. She should really just be an afterthought. I was hoping they would use the monatage music that is famous from the series.

    • Jeff Eastwood

Did the A-Team jump the shark when Boy George and Culture Club were on a ‘very special episode’ of had it gone downhill way before that?

  • Hrfe

    Hahahahaha YES!
I’m to young to remember the original A-Team so I don’t know the people other than Mr. T and the white haired dude but damn Bradley Cooper looks good. And the other guy was funny. Idk, it looks like a really fun movie to go see, and that’s coming from a 16 year old girl, so I think that’s a good thing

    • James Hameron

Actually, that’s a bad thing. Youngsters are very impressionable. You probably neglected to take into account such niceties as plot and character development. I need an A-Team that hints at the larger, more salient issues of today’s society. Also, why is MEGAN FOX not in this? Hello? Bueller?

      • Menchy

Not every teenager is a vapid idiot. Of course, I don’t really think this looks very good, but the point still stands
        ~Menchy, 16 and a movie snob

      • Stephanie Tanner

You have never seen A-team before have you? The plot is irrelevant. What you heard in the trailer was all the plot that ever was in the show. All that matters is the chemistry btw the 4 characters.

      • @ James Hameron

You lose all credibility for wanting Megan Fox to be in this movie.

      • Hrfe

Why would it be a bad thing to go see this movie? I just meant that its good for the movie if it looks good from a 16 year old girl’s perspective. And not really good, but fun. Not every movie going experience has to be about intellectual development- you can just have a good time watching things blow up every once and a while.

      • JMB

I think you are missing the satire of James HAMERON’s post. Honestly, people have no sense of humor on the internet these days. James, you are too funny!

    • 42man

The “white-haired dude” is Liam Neeson, that’s not Mr. T., it’s “Rampage Jackson” from wrestling, and the “other guy” is Sharlto Copley from District 9. You know, the South African guy from that really well done movie with the aliens.

Fact-check before you make a comment like that, Hrfe.

      • Caroline

She was talking about the original show.

      • Jason

Too bad you couldn’t fact-check nearly as well as you think, 42man. Rampage Jackson hails from the world of MMA, UFC in particular. Not professional wrestling. Not at all.

      • Niix Starkyller

Jason, you’re a jerk … for beating me to the punch. As for you, 42man, you should be wary of being pompous as it can become toxic to you when mixed with too much egg on your face.

    • @hrfe

No, being 16 doesn’t mean you are a vapid idiot. but thinking that being 16 means that your opinion is of great import and/or critically relevant is a sign of either vapid idiocy or extreme pomposity. But I don’t blame it on the fact that you are 16. You’ll probably be that way the rest of your life. And this twitter society that we have created doesn’t help matters. Comments like “it seems like it’ll be fun!” are not insightful and are rather pointless. but many people think that their comments are more interesting than they really are. I might have had such a moment too!

      • shes only 16

        relax crazy man

      • Hrfe

Are you kidding me? I meant that’ll probably be good for the movies box office, because if it can get people of my age group/gender to enjoy it it will expand their fan base and make them more money. Of course I don’t think this will be a ‘good’ movie, it isn’t going to win any awards but it could be an enjoyable movie to go see. And my comment was more insightful than your comment so you really shouldn’t be insulting the fact that I said “it seems like it’ll be fun”.

  • Linda

I’m horrified by the entire concept of the movie. It may have been toleratable if they hadn’t tried to imitate the gang and instead make completely new characters. What’s next, a MacGyver movie?

    • Linda

.. and yes, I watched the trailer.

      • a

Is it totally wrong for me to say that a MacGyver movie sounds cool?

      • L

No way! I loved MacGyver! The TV series that became a verb!

“I’ll just MacGyver this and it’ll be good as new.”

Who’d take Richard Dean Anderson’s role? Maybe RDA can play the boss! Ha!

    • Gabby

      Worse…a MacGruber movie

      • Sarah

        Hahaha

      • jim

Not only are making movies of every series ever made, now they are making movies of parodies of every series ever made.

    • d$

I’m also horrified by the concept of this movie. The plot looks terrible… the acting looks terrible… the story looks awful… but… I will totally go see it. This might be the most Craptastic Movie of the new decade.

    • DI

Have you seen Richard Dean Anderson lately? Cause he’s still McGuyver. He’ll always be McGuyver. That movie would be awesome.

      • Linda

Oh I have much love for MacGyver, I just would hate to see a remake. RDA is and always will be the only MacGyver.

      • Susan

I have seen RDA lately — and he’s too pudgy right now to play Mac.

Besides…he’s Jack now. I’d see him in a MacG movie and think Jack.

I found the A-Team trailer fun. And I think that’s the point of all these remakes — to bring us back something we loved when we were all a lot younger. (And perhaps, like RDA, a bit thinner. )

I don’t think anything will ever beat the Star Trek movie, though, for most successful remake.

      • @susan

Actually I KNOW the point of all these remakes is that Hwood Execs aren’t into risk taking and would rather deal with tried and true properties that already have a ready made audience. These people are not into creativity, they are into making MONEY. I don’t have an issue with remakes as long as they bring something new to the table and are GOOD. But the ATeam as a guilty pleasure in the 80s (no the writing was not the best) is not the same as a movie in ’10. You have to make it better than it originally was for it to be relevant today or else make it a spoof of itself. Look to Miami Vice for an example of how a remake made lots of money but wasn’t that good- partially bc of the confused tone. Comic or dramatic or walking the fine line in btw…

  • Foley

MY GOD this looks bad. Over the top is one thing, but how about obvious, boring, and cheesey CGI? Could this really be the director of NARC? This should be called The GAY Team.

    • May S

Wow! Gay joke. Hilarious – how very 12 year old boy of you.

  • Carrie

I’m not digging Neeson’s bad imitation of George Peppard but I’ll still go see it.

    • Neeson Ratings

I think he’s channeling Peppard in a manner not unlike James Carrey playing Andy Kaufman, so please reserve your judgement until you see the movie. I for one can vouch for the strength of Neeson’s work here. I was lucky enough to see a rough cut at Canes, and boy, did it ever blow the roof off the place!

      • Toopac

        it’s Cannes you moron

      • maiv

        dude-calm down. it’s called a typo

      • Tommy Marx

That must have been an EXTREMELY rough cut, since Cannes was last May and the film didn’t start filming until months later.

      • Jaskal

A-team at Cannes… and all you notice is the typo. It was a joke, morons.

  • Kim

The only concern I really have is about Barracus and his fear of flying. Did they cut out that running gag of the series? If they did, I’ll be furious. I can’t see B.A. well enough to tell if he’s unconscious or not.

    • Alex

I don’t think they’ll cut out such an iconic piece of the series… If you look at the trailer you see BA sitting there, probably out cold, like on the series ;)
I’m looking forward to this, since I grew up on the A-Team. really like the casting too

      • Glenn

Freeze trailer at 1:24. BA is absolutely out cold rockin his head as the plane sways.

      • G

That’s hilarious– “I ain’t gettin’ on no plane!”

  • Dixon

I couldn’t agree more. LOL The gAy Team.
Thank God Jason Patric didn’t stoop to this one. His LOSERS looks soooooo much better.

    • tomasz

the A Team trailer was better than the entire
      losers movie

  • Jess

Over the top is the A-Team and honestly, I wouldn’t want this movie any other way. I expect some things out of certain movies and I don’t expect this movie to be a critical smash because it’s the A-Team, it’s going to be critically panned but the die-hard fans will probably really enjoy this.

  • MR SELF- POTATO

the single best trailer I have seen all DAY. Like the sequel to HANGOVER…

  • Latham

I am not a big fan of them changing the opening monolog, but I will defiantly be seeing this movie.

    • L

They kept it pretty close. They couldn’t be Vietnam Vets now — they’d be too old.

I love that they have the dang VAN! So cool.

  • katy

    oh bradley cooper…..

    • Rae

I just want to lick every inch of him.

  • Josh

I grew up on reruns of The A-Team, so I know the source material, and I gotta say, just from the trailer, they don’t seem to be missing a whole lot of the vibe from the show. The A-Team is why action is described as over-the-top, and if they do an A-Team movie with action that isn’t over-the-top, then it wouldn’t be The A-Team. And come on. The tag line HAS to be there. It’s necessary.

I’m personally looking forward to it.

  • Josh M

    Needed more A-Team theme.

    • J.

Yeah, the theme song needed to be less “badass” and more fun, like the T.V. show.

  • Terry Bradshaw

I’m looking forward to you personally watching it.

  • Diana

What up Bradley Cooper’s abs. *swoon*

    • Hillary

Agree. 0:54 seconds on the trailer. Had to watch twice.

      • paige

        me too :-)
