Clip du jour: Brian Cox and an adorable toddler do 'Hamlet'

I wasn’t sure anything would best Klingon Hamlet for me, but the amazing Brian Cox coaxing an outrageously darling 30-month-old through the “to be or not to be” soliloquy tops it. You win again, Internet!

My heart is exploding, PopWatchers. Cutest, or cutest ever?

Is acting art? Nicolas Cage and Morgan Freeman sound off

Art or not art? That is the question that Nicolas Cage, Colin Firth, Morgan Freeman, Stanley Tucci, Christoph Waltz, and Peter Sarsgaard ponder in the highly amusing video below, part 1 in a series from The Hollywood Reporter. As soon as the matter is raised (off-screen, presumably by the reporter moderating the roundtable), Cage bristles a bit. “What is it with the word art? Define art,” he says to Firth who, in turn, gives a perfectly reasonable response about the subjectivity of the word. READ FULL STORY »

'Avatar' and McDonald's: James Cameron is lovin' it

If there ever was a filmmaker whose work warranted supersizing, it’s James Cameron. According to the Hollywood Reporter, McDonald’s is teaming up with Fox to promote Cameron’s Avatar, including sneak peeks of a planned interactive website based on the sci-fi actioner’s fictional world of Pandora. “McDonald’s has taken my vision of Pandora from the big screen to the computer screen and beyond,” Cameron says. “Avatar has been my dream for 14 years, and I am extremely happy with how McDonald’s is bringing it to life in their restaurants.”

The beginning of his Oscar speech, perhaps? Maybe the concept for the film has been “brewing” in his mind like an Iced Coffee with Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup (Large). Okay, I’m off to assign my avatar, Michael Ausiello, to eat some fries on my behalf.

Natalie Portman to star in 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies': Jane Austen's Hollywood career rolls on

Categories: Books, Movie Casting, Movies

It was probably inevitable, but I’m still amused by the latest Jane Austen news (and that there is always fresh “Jane Austen news” is also kind of fun): Natalie Portman has signed on to produce and star in an adaptation of this year’s Austen mash-up by Seth Graehme, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Portman will play Elizabeth Bennet, who in this version will be fighting the undead as she simultaneously romances the arrogant Mr. Darcy. When Emma Thompson won an Oscar for her screenplay for Sense and Sensibility in 1996, she joked in her acceptance speech that she’d stopped by Austen’s grave at Winchester Cathedral “to pay my respects, you know, and tell her about the grosses.” It was funny then. Thirteen years later, it’s still kind of astonishing that Austen remains a prominent figure in pop culture. Help me out: Has that happened with any other novelist born in the 18th century? And what do you think about Portman’s casting? She certainly has looks to play a period heroine. But if I get my wish, she’ll bring less refinement to the role and more…well, this: READ FULL STORY »

'The Real Housewives of O.C.' recap: Making time for the important things in life

Categories: Real Housewives

On last night’s episode, Gretchen did the unthinkable. That little minx almost made me like her for a half a second as she sat there with a bemused expression listening to Alexis extol the values of her marriage and her morals. “I’m from the Midwest, I’m very traditional, we’re just both very Christian,” said Alexis, her cantaloupes sitting atop a plate of ceviche. Gretchen gave great non-expression, murmuring “Interesting.” Alexis went on to describe the soul-searching conversation she had with God after she first met Jim in all his stogie and XXL shirt-wearing glory. “Okayyy, God! What are you trying to do right now?! Where are you going with this?!” (God is sooo weird sometimes but he really is my best friend.) Alexis went on to talk about the devil and how the devil can be found on girls’ weekends or in Greece or Tampa or something so she announced that if she was going to go on Vicki’s trip then Jim would be sitting next to her on the plane. As we’ve heard over and over, this couple has only spent one night apart for their entire five years of marriage and they’ve not going to change their values now. READ FULL STORY »

James Cameron talks 'Avatar': Exclusive quotes from this week's issue

It’s been 15 years — and hundreds of millions of dollars — in the making. Now, James Cameron’s Avatar is just a week away from hitting theaters. As the buzz becomes deafening, Cameron sat with EW’s Josh Rottenberg to talk about taking risks, being the underdog, and why he thinks Terminator 2 holds up — but Aliens doesn’t. Check out a few highlights below, and pick up our current issue for the full Q&A.

On early reactions comparing the Na’vi to Smurfs and Jar Jar Binks: “I think the Smurfs thing is funny, personally. Jar Jar is a bit of a low blow.”

On his target audience: “When you’re making a movie that costs $200 million… your target audience is people with a pulse and $15 — or even just $15.”

On his work ethic: “I took half a day off for the swine flu back in May.”

On whether or not Avatar will be profitable: “If we announce Avatar 2, we made money. If we didn’t make money, we’re a bunch of dumb f—s. But we still made 2,000 jobs for three years, and that’s a good thing.”

On the legacy of Titanic: “It’s like nobody admits they went to see Titanic, like it was something you did when you were a kid that you’re not too proud of now, like wearing bell-bottoms.”

For more on James Cameron and Avatar, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands now. And check back at EW.com on Monday for our Q&A with Avatar star Sigourney Weaver.

'Tron Legacy' visuals revealed: Check them out here!

More visuals from the upcoming Tron Legacy movie have hit the Web, and just like the trailer before them, they’re absolutely stunning. Pictured here are hottie Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hudlund caught in a very sultry moment. (Sizzle!) I honestly have no idea what’s going on between the pair, but we can assume it’s romantic, yes? It’s intriguing: Are they about to kiss each other — or punch each other? Maybe both! Either way, a sultry moment. Wilde plays the confidante of Jeff Bridges’ character Kevin Flynn, and Hudlund is Bridges’ son Sam. The movie poster and whatnot were also released (poster after the jump), and truly, they’re about what you’d expect, based on what we’ve already seen. Neon-y, dark, futuristic. Oh wait, you haven’t seen the trailer/footage that’s already been released? Check that out after the jump as well.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Do seeing these new bits of the Tron release get you excited for next December? (It’s only a year away!)

Diane Sawyer says 'Good Morning America' for the last time

Diane Sawyer said, “Good morning, America” one last time today on her final broadcast before taking over the evening news for the retiring Charlie Gibson on Dec. 21. She was smiling and emotional this morning (after what she described as roughly 2,881 shows), basking in the attention (and tears) of co-anchor Robin Roberts, who called Sawyer the “queen of morning television.” The two also welcomed new co-anchor George Stephanopoulos and news anchor Juju Chang, who’ll begin on Monday.

Any GMA regulars out there shed a tear along with Diane today? What are some of your fondest memories of the queen’s reign? What do you think of the incoming Stephanopoulos regime?

Categories: 30 Rock, TV Recap

What I wouldn’t give to see Alec Baldwin and Julianne Moore perform a full-on version of “Hey, Beantown!” This episode of 30 Rock had some awesome Liz/Jack moments, a nice little storyline for Pete and Danny, and the invention of a whole new pizza-loving religion. These are the 10 best lines from “Secret Santa.”

“Those sites are for horny married chicks with kids who want to exchange pervy e-mails with their high-school boyfriends.” Liz, whose haircut is, uh, growing out READ FULL STORY »
