'How to Train Your Dragon' trailer is cute, but it's no Puff

I’m sort of charmed by the latest trailer for How to Train Your Dragon. Such are the mighty powers of Jay Baruchel, I guess.

Yes, the outcast-kid-befriends-animal genre is well-worn territory, and I’m 100 percent sure there’s a burp or fart joke in the movie somewhere, but…kinda adorable, right? A little?

The previously released full trailer gives slightly more about the plot:

Can anyone overtake Puff in your heart of dragony hearts, PopWatchers? Can you perhaps explain why the Wikipedia has an index for “fictional dragons” as opposed to just “dragons”? The mind reels!

i have read the books on which the movies are based – and though the trailer looks interesting, the storyline is such a far cry from the books.

      sorry, “movie”, not movies.

I definitely agree with Chris, the movie seems poised to be one of the worst book adaptations (in terms of accuracy to the book) of all time. It’s basically capitalizing on the names and completely rewriting the universe. However, the trailer looks fun, so I’ll probably give it a shot anyway.

I don’t know about the books but I thought this trailer looked totally fun. When I started it I wasn’t expecting much but I think I’ll rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Pass. (And I’m a big fan of animation and dragons LOL)

    COOL!!!

As someone with a dragon tattooed on my person, I feel qualified to say this movie looks terrible. And what a stupid-looking dragon!

I was really dissapointed when they decided to move the storyline away from the book. When I was younger I read How To Train Your Dragon, and adored Toothless for his attitude and sly comments against Hiccup. I’ll still see the movie, but it just won’t be the same.

The movie looks COMPLETELY unrecognizable from the book. The characters names are the same and that’s about it. I’ll take my books read in the dulcet Scottish tones of David Tennant any day. This is just bad, bad, bad.

I think this could well be Dreamworks best movie since Kung Fu Panda. I’m very much looking forward to seeing this one!

DEFINATELY agree on the ‘nothing like the book’ bit. I am most thoroughly dissapointed. I’ve been looking forward to this for a couple years now, me being a die-hard fan since the series started. I am defninately skipping the movie and reading the book instead!
