By now you’ve read all about the title change for Kevin Smith’s new movie. But have you seen the trailer? Here it is, embedded below. Looks pretty hilarious to me (just the sight of Tracy Morgan stuffing those tortilla chips in his mouth had me laughing.) What do you think? Is Cop Out going to be brilliant or the next Jersey Girl?

I’m a fan of everyone involved, but this movie looks like pure garbage.
It looks absolutely abysmal. It’s the kind of movie where I won’t even go to a theater that plays it during it’s inevitable two-week run out of fear of getting tainted by the stench of absolute failure and catastrophe.
Perhaps Bruce Willis is having a “Hudson Hawk moment”

Jersey Girl gets a bad rap. It really is pretty good. It just doesn’t fit the mold of what we have come to expect from Kevin Smith. I mean it’s PG-13 and probably any other director submits the same movie to the MPAA and it gets a straight PG rating. I’m sorry the girl doing Sweeney Todd for her elementary school talent show is classic.
why does Tracey Morgan even have a career? This guy has got to be the most Unfunny man in America with a career. What was Bruce Willis and Kevin Smith thinking with this garbage?

I’ve never watched “30 Rock” and I hear that he’s OK on it, but he never did 1 funny thing on SNL. A wad of chewed gum is funnier than Tracy Morgan.
I love this rationale…I’ve never watched his funniest stuff so I don’t understand why people think he is funny.

I agree with everyone… I was appalled when I saw Kevin Smith’s name attached– what is he thinking?? I’d rather see Clerks 3 than this crap.
Well, I am glad that he is not doing Clerks 3. Those jokes have gotten pretty tired.
Kevin Smith really needs to try something new. I hope this is funnier than this trailer lets on.

I love Kevin Smith’s other work but this looks awful. The joke fall flat and it looks loud and obnoxious. I heard the script is good so i still want to see it.
Kevin Smith’s last good film was Chasing Amy. Since then his dick jokes have gotten old. This looks like more trash, but at least he’s stopped writing…now if he’d just stop directing.
Chasing Amy is one of my favorite movies. I can’t believe how bad Smith’s projects are now!
Are you serious? Dogma is an amazing movie with the most original script in years. Give that script to Spielberg to direct and it gets nominated for best original screenplay.

Yeah, he was great in MOONLIGHTING, absolutely hilarious. In fact, I did a double take when I saw the first posters for DIE HARD back in 1987 b/c I was thinking, “But isn’t he a comedian?” Still, I’m not going to see this latest Kevin Smith garbage unless it gets extremely good word of mouth.
I wanted to see the movie, but after the trailer I don’t want to see it anymore. Although the sight of Sean William Scott being dragged while chained to the car was somewhat amusing.
I think it’s funny that everyone is saying this trailer looks awful. Kevin Smith has a history of having lackluster trailers that don’t even come close to comparing to the movie. The great thing about that is the fact that the best stuff is never in the trailer so you don’t have to worry about going into the theater having already seen the best stuff in the movie. Having said that, I think the trailer looks good, and this will probably be Kevin Smith’s best looking movie. It looks like he’s learned a lot and improved his visual style immensely. And, having read the script, the script is great, not as good as a Kevin Smith penned script, but still worth watching in the theater and owning on DVD. I have no doubts that Kevin Smith will do great work here and hopefully find his way further into the public eye.
