I loved the 3 top dancers (and Legacy who should have been there with them). I would have been happy with any of those 4 but I am happy Russell won. I’m sad Jakob lost though. Russell & Jakob are truly extraordinary in their own way. I only wish one of them had been on last year.
OMG… I WAS ALL ABOUT LEGACY ALL SEASON LONG. LOL
Legacy did himself in with his last solo. When I saw his telephone prop I knew he was done. To me he seemed arrogant and a little too certain of himself as the winner. Sure enough, he was voted off. The top six were always humble and gracious.
on people.com Russell said “I did four years at Boston Arts and I did a good year at The University of the Arts, so I got a good amount of training in.” so how is he this big untrained dancer? I feel kind of misled that everyone was saying he was so green, when in reality he’s danced these other kinds of dances before.
That is because Russell downplayed that. Go back to Vegas week. Nigel asked him point blank of he had training, and Russell shook his head. Then Nigel said, “No training? WOW!” There is absolutely nothing wrong with training, but Russell should have said yes and not leave the impression that he has only krumped and the rest came “naturally”.
Russell has taken classes in other styles, but that’s not “training.” So he’s not really a trained dancer the way the others are. Besides, he’s great, period.
4 years is not considered training? And yes. He is great. Just be honest!
We don’t know exactly what Russell said, because that was edited tape. We know what they SHOWED but not what he said. He could have said he didn’t have training in that particular dance style, which is true. Russell said the training he had at the audition. He listed the Boston Arts Academy in his bio from the beginning. He has said in recent interviews that the producers told him the training he had was not “formal training,” but that he disagrees. Russell has always been honest.
That’s the same thing with Joshua from a couple of seasons ago. He came in as a hip hop dancer when in fact he’d had classes, lessons, training or whatever you want to call it in other styles and had been dancing those styles since childhood. I did enjoy Joshua and Russell’s dancing, but I don’t think it’s quite honest to say you’re one thing but know you’re really another just to get audience votes and make people think you’ve “come so far” like you’ve NEVER danced any other genre and this is your first go at it.
For once, I’d like to see the most technically talented dancer win this competition. Jakob is breathtaking- an incredible dancer who is as close to perfection as possible.
As someone else said, Jakob was so humble and genuine. I respect him and his amazing gift.
At its core the show is about dancing, perfsonality is just the icing on the cake, so I guess a lot of ppl would buy an inferior cake with pretty icing. The show has lost its credibility…again, how long can they keep this up seriously?!
I didn’t see Jakob’s family at all during the finale. NOT FAIR.
I’m rooting for Jakob but I probably didn’t vote as much as the young ones did. I’m sad to see that there’s another talented gay guy shafted on the show. When will America mature and accept that they are more artistically gifted? Ballet is nothing without Tschaikovsky. All the media raves about that topic only when there’s a gay movie in which they died/get killed/were the bad ppl….but BBM was crashed too.
why hasn’t the show addressed Jakob’s or other past seasons contestant’s sexuality? Yet another FOX show this year where the “gay” contestant finishes second. Is this homophobia or what?
so unfair that kathryn gets to dance and jakob who got second and is the better dancer doesn’t get to dance in the oscars
Kathryn is the top woman. Jakob got screwed…again. See?
I feel sad that this is the interview for the winner, and everybody is posting against him. Russell, I loved you from the start and I cried when you won! You’ve got something special, please continue to perform!
I agree Sabrina! It’s sad that negative comments get tons of replies, but positive ones get few, if any.
Congrats Russell! All the top dancers deserved their spots, and you emulate joy and success with all your moves. You are one of many winners on the show, and it is nice to see a new style being rewarded. May your career be long, happy, and rewarding!
Russell was NOT my favorite dancer. Or the best dancer. But he seemed really excited to win so I guess that’s nice.
