Hallmark Channel goes HD just in the nick of time

The Hallmark Channel will launch the network in High Definition on Feb. 1, 2010. I know what you’re thinking: Golden Girls is going to look awesome! But after examining the channel’s upcoming original film debuts, I realize this move was, in fact, necessary. Not so much for Feb. 13’s Elevator Girl starring Mean Girls‘ Lacey Chabert and Final Destination 3‘s Ryan Merriman (“a stuck elevator brings a free-spirited woman and an uptight lawyer together”), but for March 6’s Uncorked, a romantic comedy starring Dexter‘s Julie Benz and Men in Trees‘ Scott Elrod (pictured, right), and March 20’s Healing Hands starring Invasion’s Lisa Sheridan and Eddie Cibrian (pictured, left).

In Healing Hands, Cibrian plays a school janitor (love it) who awakens from a coma and realizes he has the ability to heal others just by touching them (love it even more). Every time he uses this new gift, it drains his energy. Eventually, it threatens both his health and his relationship with his fiancée (Sheridan). In short, I’m envisioning Cibrian being shirtless, if only to be shocked back to life once or twice. HD!

Uncorked follows a workaholic CFO (Benz) on business to Southern California’s wine country, where she meets a world-famous chef (Elrod). I predict it will get hot in his kitchen. HD!

But seriously, is there a network you’re still waiting on to go HD?

Wait so what Hallmark HD channel have I been watching? Golden Girls actually looks terrible because they stretch the picture.

    • Kaiulani

I already have Hallmark in HD too.

“launch the network in High Definition on Feb. 1, 2010″

        How is that possible?

      • Brad

The Hallmark Channel is different from the Hallmark Movie Channel, which has been broadcasted in HD since 2008.

  • PeterBilt

thats not a streched screen pauch, thats the natural sultriness of Getty, Mclanahan, White and Arthur.

Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network, Oxygen, SOAPnet – all need to be in HD in my world. Is it just my DirecTV or are those really not in HD yet?

I’m so embarrassed that I just admitted that.

    • pauch

Lifetime and LMN are on HD on comcast…er…not that I watch those channels. lol. Soapnet would be awesome

It seems to me like most of the MTV shows aren’t in HD, even though they have an HD channel

    • pauch

on top of that MTVHD doesn’t even air the same prgramming schedule as its SD counterpart. Only sometimes and the rest of the time its filled with terrible movies.

    When is Bravo going HD?
Or is it already and I just do have it?

Bravo has a HD channel on RCN Cable.

    • Kaiulani

Bravo is on HD on my cable (Time Warner).

I wish that The N was on HD! (Or I guess I should say Teen Nick, as that’s what they’re calling it now.) I want to watch Degrassi in HD.

    • Nick T

OMG! that would be awesome. Riley in HD would be something to behold. And it’s okay, you can call it The N. We still do.

Looking forward to seeing Scott Elrod on tv again! Loved him on Men in Trees. I still cry when I think about the show and how much I miss it! But seeing Scott will help soothe the pain!

BBC America needs to be in HD, especially with all the Doctor Who specials coming up. It’s awful watching in Standard Definition.

  • Loretta

BBC America is available in HD since July 2009. Unfortunately, few providers have picked it up. I have DirecTV and am still waiting for it. Hallmark may or may not be available in HD now or in February, but that still doesn’t mean everyone will get it.

In the “nick of time”? Actually, not so much.. that would have been, if it were to become available before Christmas, so we can then see all the awesome cheesy Christmas movies in HD, lol.

But yay for Cibrian and Sheridan reuniting! ♥ (/former fan of Invasion ;P)

I think every channel should have HD simulcast alternatives, but more importantly, the HD channels that are still slacking really need to stop stretching 4:3 to 16:9, or worse, CROPPING widescreen movies to 4:3 and THEN stretching them to 16:9 (what the hell, right? I’ve seen this happen to a few movies already, including *Independence Day*, of all things.. oy!), as well as showing 4:3/SD versions of stuff when I *know* HD/16:9 versions exist.. eh well.

I do second that comment about Doctor Who, altho I don’t have BBCA (premiun channel) so it wouldn’t affect me, but SyFy shows DW in Standard Def even on their HD channel, and I’m assuming it’s a rights issue for the moment, but it would be awesome to finally see it in HD! ♥

Ok Great news…i more looking forward to seeing Eddie “the ever handsome”Cibrian, + in HD im sure it will bring him right into our homes.

  • b

does this mean that if I don’t have HD, I won’t get HC any more?

  • Herb Brooks

Every Christmas I look forward to watching MRS. CLAUSE and MEET THE CLAUSES and you haven’t shown them the last couple of yrs. Why not? They were two enjoyable Christmas shows.
