Diane Sawyer said, “Good morning, America” one last time today on her final broadcast before taking over the evening news for the retiring Charlie Gibson on Dec. 21. She was smiling and emotional this morning (after what she described as roughly 2,881 shows), basking in the attention (and tears) of co-anchor Robin Roberts, who called Sawyer the “queen of morning television.” The two also welcomed new co-anchor George Stephanopoulos and news anchor Juju Chang, who’ll begin on Monday.
Any GMA regulars out there shed a tear along with Diane today? What are some of your fondest memories of the queen’s reign? What do you think of the incoming Stephanopoulos regime?

I’m sorry to see Diane Sawyer go, but George Stephanopoulos? Really? NBC here I come.

I am excited for Diane Sawyer in her new role. That is pretty amazing that the nightly news will have two women now with Diane Sawyer and Katie Couric. That’s a huge step for women! And, I agree Stephanopoulos, what a great and interesting choice! I will definitely check that out.
Thank goodness Robin is still there..Diane and Chris will be missed!
I am very upset that Diane is leaving…and that they are replacing her with George Stephanopolous??? Seriously? Chris Cuomo would have made a MUCH better anchor as he and Robin have that camaraderie and friendly relationship that is required for a venue such as this. I doubt I will be watching anymore.
Chris is riding the fame of the name – he does not bring anything to the show – not that the show had anything to begin with – maybe with the new blood – the show can be better than the shallow, flirty crap that it has become in recent years – there is a fine line between celebrity admiration and worship – GMA please try not to cross that line again
‘Riding the fame of the name’? Because of who is father is? I tend to disagree. Chris, Robin, Diane and Sam were a great team. George is too dry for a morning show. Let him keep his Sunday morning snooze-fest.

Not that I agree with Robert, but Chris is the son of a former NY governor, Mario Cuomo.
I don’t see how George can bring up numbers; I’d rather have Chris Cuomo.

Really? I prefer GMA over the other morning shows. I even catch the weekend edition, which also has wonderful anchors.
Really? Cause CBS got Katie Couric & they still have lowest ratings on national evening news, and NBC has to deal with the mess that is now their 10 pm hour.
I totally agree with the other comments. When I heard George S was taking over as anchor I was dumbfounded. He is way to stiff and short as we saw today. I’m going to miss my GMA family. I really tought that Chris would move over to anchor and when I read the other day that he to was leaving I was very sad. I don’t like Matt on Today I really don’t like the CBS early show so I guess I will watch Ellen, that I taped the day before, while I’m eating my breakfast.
Stupid move ABC.

I’m surprised that Stephanopoulos is taking over for Sawyer. Frankly, much of this process has baffled me. Sawyer seems much better as a morning show host, and Stephanopoulos seems better suited as an evening news host. Granted, I don’t watch any news anymore due to my schedule (I get it online), but ABC’s anchor shifting seems weird.
Brady, George still needs to put time between himself and the Clinton administration before he can become an evening anchor. It’s only been a dozen years. GMA is the perfect way station. Diane has been out of politics for 35 years, and she’s paid her dues. Her Nixon connection now is the distant past.

Diane was doing other news long before she was asked to join Charlie Gibson on GMA. She & Gibson were brought on to bring up the ratings that took a dive when they replaced Gibson & Lunden. Sawyer has already put in her time in broadcast journalism. And the national evening news is the “pinnacle” in a tv journalist’s career. As one of the most senior journalists on ABC, it’s her next logical step. Unfortunately, GMA will suffer again.

GMA is that ABC had picked 2 losers to host, the co-hosts bombed, and after 6 weeks they got canned and in came Diane and Charlie. If George bombs, I expect ABC will make another radical move.
OMG I thought I was the only one who remembered them – they STUNK! They are the reason so many people switched over to the Today show. My favorite GMA team remains Charlie and Joan Lunden.
Today was my last day for GMA as well. Just don’t like the team they’ve assembled. Liked Diane and Chris and I think they’ll really be missed. George isn’t right for this gig and Juju seems pretty bland. Time to find a new morning show.

I agree! If losing Diane wasn’t bad anough… Chris too? They had it so easy… all they had to do was move Chris Cuomo to anchor and move Kate Snow from weekends to news (if she was willing.) George Steph is a stuffy idiot and JuJu Chang is not a serious news journalist. I will have a hard time tuning in after losing two of the best.

I’d say he brought me and plenty of other females who like their news served up with a smile in the mornings. Look, dude, if the chemistry’s not there, you can’t make it appear.

hey, what about Elizabeth Vargos??? remember how she was to co-anchor the nightly news with (oh dear what was his name) the gentlemen who became injured in Iraq? but then Charlie Gibson was brought in…what about her? what’s wrong with two (2) female co-hosts?
Agree with many others, I cannot believe that Chris didn’t get the job and now he is leaving all together. George seems way too stiff for morning TV. Very odd indeed.
Am I the only person not sad that Diane left? The combination of Robin and Diane in the morning was just too much. They acted like a couple of high school girls. I will say that I liked when Charlie and Diane hosted–I think Charlie was able to balance and reign in Diane’s ridiculousness. I stopped watching GMA as much as I used to because of the overly annoying combination of Diane and Robin. The main reason I tuned in was because of Chris. I’m so disappointed he’s not going to be on GMA anymore. He would have made a fantastic co-anchor. Heck, even Sam Champion would be a thousand times better than George. I think I’ll just DVR Craig Ferguson from the night before and watch that in the mornings instead now.
