Sad day, PopWatchers. Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have announced on the Flight of the Conchords website that there will be no season three of the show. The posting said, in part: “While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.’” See, these guys are hilarious even when issuing statements. So I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of these two!
I’d like to pay tribute to them now by reminding everyone of the genius that was the Hiphopopotamus.
Who will you miss more, Jemaine or Bret — or are they a perfect pairing like peanut butter and jelly? What was your favorite Conchords moment?

I will, but this is not unexpected. They reportedly had so much trouble writing and producing material for the second season (which, despite some bright spots, ended up being overall much weaker than the great first seaon), a third seemed unlikely.
Yes, but it’s still sad. I for one will never forget “Business Time.”
‘Business Time’ rocked!
i am very sad that there is no more show, but i look forward to whatever these guys will come up with next!
best. show. ever. i am sad that there sill be no more show, but these guys are so creative. i think that for such a simple concept, it was the most creative and bright show on television– even in the show’s weaker second season.
You knew this was inevitable after the weak season 2. I never expected them to have a season 3 after all, and I’m still trying to get over season 2′s bad taste from my mouth, really.
when’s the film coming out???
I will totally miss them but as long as they keep putting out albums and touring– they were fantastic in concert, I will be happy.
It’s sad, but understandable. The musical aspect of season 2 was nowhere close to the genius of season 3. We can’t expect them to come up with that much fresh, funny stuff year after year, within such a confined period of time. I will still be a loyal fan.
I’M GONNA MISS MURRAY!!!!
Oh who wont miss Murray?!?
Present!
I’ve got no time for your time-wasting.
I’m glad someone said it!
Nothing will beat the Bowie episode. “The funky monkeys and the media junkies will invite you to the plastic pantomime. Throw their invites away!”
What is with all the “Season 2 was weak” comments? Maybe it wasn’t as fresh as Season 1, but the songs were still quite good and the characters remained hilarious. Season 2 was still fantastic, this show was not even close to being over the hill. With that in mind, I feel like they’ve really gone out on top.
I think it’s because Bret & Jemaine had to rush to create scripts and songs for the show. The first season was the other way around- they already had their comedy act together, as well as their music, so the show had a solid foundation already. You can’t rush quality, I guess, but from what I saw from the second season, I tend to agree with you- it’s still hilarious, even if it lost a little bit of that “new show” charm.
I’ll miss them, but again, this isn’t at all unexpected. They had mentioned even before the second season started that it would most likely be their last. Better to keep them wanting more, methinks.
I loved the second season. Did I tell you that I was freaky, Moo-ray! Thought it was just as good if not better than the first.
I think we all knew this was coming, but it still saddens me to hear it. This is the funniest show that’s ever been on TV, but I guess it’s better than to have it go downhill. I love Jemaine too, but Bret is just too adorable. <3
I also don’t appreciate the genius that is the Rhymenocerous being left out of your last sentence!
Srsly. His lyrics are bottomless.
Did Steve tell you that?
I feel the same, that FoTC ended with a bang. Hopefully they’ll keep playing gigs as FoTC, so I can finally see them in concert! I just have a feeling their live shows are incredible, if their HBO stand-up was any signal…
I’m sad! But let’s face it, how were they ever going to top “Bret You’ve Got It Going On?” It still wouldn’t hurt to see what they’d come up with, though.
I had a bad feeling when they ended season two back in New Zealand. This sucks, I love that show.
Do hope they keep the Conchords alive in some form – keep touring!
