What are you people talking about ? This episode was HILARIOUS !!!!
finally! I was starting to feel like there was something wrong with me because I really liked this episode
does anyone else find ryan to be the most hateful and intolerable characters on tv? i know that’s the point…he is written as this smarmy guy but i don’t think anything he does is funny at all and cringe when he is on screen. maybe the dwight/ryan alliance to takedown jim will bring some funny material. also – not enough kelly kapur this season
I couldn’t stop laughing while Michael was at that school. Just the uncomfortable feeling of knowing what was coming was funny, even if the situation itself isn’t. I am worried about where they are going with this whole “take down Halpert” thing, but I have a feeling it will all coincide with Pam giving birth.
Most of the time Michael is just icky or inappropriate but in this episode he came off as cruel. Didn’t enjoy this one at all.
hmmm…I guess I am alone in thinking that Jim knows about Dwight’s scheme–discovered the “spy kids” pen and is drawing it out. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.
This might be the first ep of The Office I pretty much didn’t like, from start to finish. Scott’s Tots was almost too painful to watch… Normally, Michael’s lies and false promises are what make the show hilarious, like when he tries to buy pot to frame Toby and ends up buying salad instead. But this was not funny-because-it’s-awkward, it was just unfunny-and-cruel. And the whole Employee of the Month scam was so transparent, Jim is usually way ahead of Dwight on this… I’m hoping this is an aberration not a jump-the-shark episode.
I liked this episode a lot too. I think it’s high time that Dwight got back at Jim for all his pranks, and he almost squared it after just one day! Awesome.
I also feel that the reaction from the staff to Jim & Pam was realistic… the fact is that in the entire office, they are the only ones to get promoted (and stay promoted) – Jim after making it clear he didn’t care about his job, and Pam after being a receptionist, leaving the company, “stealing” their clients, and ultimately being the least productive salesman. How can there *not* be some resentment, that boils over when they name “themselves” employee(s) of the month? For many folks it was the last straw… I can understand how that could happen.
Remember that in previous seasons, when Jim was in charge of the office for a day, it rarely turned out well. The only time the staff liked Jim being in charge was when he helped them in *not* doing work (the Dundies). The other time, Jim put forth (what he thought) were good ideas but they generally blew up inihis face. It’s no surprise that now that he’s a boss, he has to learn that it’s not as easy as he thought to do the job. He hasn’t done that yet, and I hope for his sake he does it soon…
I always watch the Office episodes twice, either to see a specific scene again, or to catch what I might have missed the first time.
This time I also watched it twice, but it was because I was hoping it would actually be funny the second time around.
This season has been subpar so far, too many unfunny episodes. This was the worst, I just didn’t buy the Scott’s Tots stuff at all. Was that school really that naive and stupid? THey didn’t look into who Michael Scott is at all? Why would they take his scholarship promise at face value like that. Is his name Michael Scott Rockefeller? Just a stupid episode that I could barely stand to have on in the background.
The Jim/Dwight stuff was almost as bad as Scott’s tot’s. DId Dwight get ten times smarter or Jim ten times stupider for this particular episode? Jim owned Dwight for years but he has suddenly lost the ability to reason and now trusts Dwight and has forgotten what a miserable schemer he is. This episode was so bad it almost turned me off the Office completely.
I’ve long been a fan of The Office but Scot’s Tots was one of the worst episodes in a long time. I’d have to go back to the shlocky Moroccan Christmas to find one that bad. It’s a shame too since the show seemed to be doing better up until a few weeks ago.
This was my least favorite since the one where Michael drove his car into the lake. I really hope this was just a bad spot in otherwise good season.
I have been a fan of the Office since the original British series, and I agree that part of the reason it’s such a loveable show is because of its relatability. At this point I still watch it for the actors because I love them all, and Jim still makes me laugh as does Andy and Dwight, but the storylines are becoming so farfetched now that I’m losing interest. The whole college tuition lie storyline was, in a word, ridiculous. Seriously? That’s the best they can come up with? I think that like any good show it’s starting to lose gas into multiple seasons. It’s had its day in the sun and now it’s over. Parks and Rec is the new Office, if you ask me. It’s my favorite comedy on TV right now.
Extremely funny episode and season. Have no idea what any of you are talking about.
I think the show is at its best when Dwight is peculiar and hateful, but now he’s getting too much into real corporate warfare kind of stuff, and it’s lost its sense of fun. When he reminds me of real coworkers, he’s no longer even slightly appealing. You used to laugh at him while he pulled outlandish stunts. Now, he looks like the slimy guy down the hall. I don’t watch “comedies” to see real life drama.
Good recap. Worst Office episode ever in my opinion, except for the few good moments you noted.
